What Self-Trust Really Means and Why You Need It [Self-Belief Series #9]

Do you know what you need to do but don't trust yourself to do it? Do you second-guess yourself or overthink decisions? Or outsource them to everyone else as if their opinion is more valuable or credible than yours?

This is the next episode in my 7-part Self-Belief Framework. Self-trust is not another tool, it's the outcome when you remember who you are, your skills, adaptability, hope, and wins when you need them most.

What You'll Learn:

  • Why self-trust is credibility with yourself and what that actually means
  • The 3 pillars of self-trust: Clarity (knowing who you are), Competence (trusting your ability to figure things out), and Commitment (keeping promises to yourself)
  • How self-trust shows up in daily life: decision-making, risk-taking, authenticity, and self-advocacy

You become someone you can trust one small promise at a time. And when you trust yourself with small things, you'll trust yourself with big things too.

The 10 Minute Shift
How Adaptability Is Your Secret Weapon In Building Super Strong Self-belief [Self-Belief Limited Series 7 of 12]

Life never goes according to plan – and that's exactly why adaptability is one of the most crucial ingredients in building deep rooted confidence. In this episode, I talk about the ability to respond thoughtfully rather than react mindlessly when things inevitably shift.

In this episode:

Why adaptability matters more than IQ – Research shows flexibility has a higher correlation to long-term success than intelligence.

The difference between reacting and responding – and why that pause between trigger and action is where your power lives.

Why waiting to "feel confident" keeps you stuck – I lovingly call bullshit on the idea that confidence comes before action.

Practical tools including:

  • The "even if" practice that separates your identity from outcomes
  • How to create space between challenging moments and your response
  • Real-world examples from navigating massive change at Twitter

Two things can exist at the same time: feeling scared/unprepared AND still showing up fully. Adaptability is about trusting yourself to figure things out as you go, not having all the answers upfront.

Perfect for anyone who's ever said "I'll do that when I feel more confident" or wants to build inner strength that travels with you regardless of circumstances.

Part of my self-belief framework series – seven core capacities that help you build confidence from the inside out. Listen to the rest of the series now or join me on Substack for a longer companion post to this episode.

This episode is about the grounded, creative, self-generating kind of hope that fuels confidence, belief, and brave action.

In this short episode, I explore why hope isn’t wishful thinking, it’s actually a form of inner power. A mental shift. A creative spark. A coaching tool. And most importantly, a vital ingredient of self-belief.

  • Why hope is a cognitive process (not just a feeling)
  • How it’s deeply tied to growth mindset and agency
  • What neuroscience says about imagining a better future

Whether you're dreaming of a new career, trying to make a change, or just feeling like your confidence needs a reset, this episode will help you imagine more for yourself and remember why that matters.

The invisible expectations, inputs, and pressures that shape how you feel in yourself - often without you even realising it!

In this episode, we’ll explore:

  • What energy really means in the context of self-belief

  • How energetic overload - not lack of motivation - is often the real issue

  • Three gentle shifts to help you protect your presence this week

How To Build Sturdy, Beautiful Self-Belief That Lasts [Self-Belief Limited Series 2 of 12]

This is Episode 2 of 12 in a special series on self-belief - what it really is, how we lose touch with it, and how to rebuild it in a way that actually lasts.

In this episode, I introduce the Self-Belief System - a framework of seven inner capacities that create grounded, steady confidence.
You’ll learn why self-belief isn’t a personality trait, why waiting to feel “ready” can hold you back, and how to start building a stronger inner foundation now.

If You’ve Been Trying to Change and It’s Not Working, Listen to This

In this episode, I’m sharing a powerful shift that completely changed how I understand change, for myself and for the people I coach.

If you’ve ever tried to change something about how you show up - maybe you’ve taken courses, implemented strategies, pushed yourself to do the thing - but it hasn’t quite landed, or it doesn’t stick, this might offer some clarity.

I’m talking about why real change doesn’t begin with behaviour. It begins beneath the surface - with belief.

  • In this episode, you’ll learn:
    • Why training and learning often don’t lead to real change
    • What to do when you know what to do, but still don’t do it
    • How coaching helps you shift what’s happening under the surface
    • Why your beliefs matter more than your behaviour
    • How to stop forcing change and start building self-trust

Interested in going deeper with this work?

I’m launching a small group coaching program this July called Owning It - designed to help you build grounded confidence from the inside out. Send me a message @heycoachamy on Insta if you'd like to learn more.

    The 10 Minute Shift
Why It's Important To Separate Work From Your Identity

Who are you without the job title? Without the inbox? Without the performance reviews?

In this week's episode, I’m talking about something I’ve lived through - and something I see again and again in my coaching work: what happens when we over-identify with our jobs. When our sense of worth gets so wrapped up in performance, productivity, and title... that we forget who we are underneath it all.

    What I Talk About:

    • My personal experience with identity loss and rediscovery
    • How our culture conditions us to tie worth to work
    • The emotional impact of layoffs and change
    • What coaching has taught me about identity and fulfillment
    • Questions to ask when you're feeling lost in your role
    • How to start separating what you do from who you are

I was inspired to record this after reading an incredible article on Substack titled “You Are Not Your Job, and Soon You Won’t Have One.” It hit me hard, particularly given all the layoffs that seem to happen constantly.

It put words to so much of what I’ve been feeling and thinking - about identity, career change, cultural shifts, and how fragile our sense of self can become when it’s built entirely around work. Highly recommend reading it.

How To Stay Grounded When Feedback Hits A Nerve

In this episode, I’m talking about something most of us struggle with - feedback. Even when it’s well-intentioned, it can feel incredibly personal, especially if we’ve tied our sense of worth to how we show up, perform, or succeed.

I share a challenging feedback story from early in my career that really stayed with me, and how it helped me understand why feedback can land so hard. I also offer two simple but powerful questions I now use to process feedback with more clarity and self-trust - without spiraling or shutting down.

This isn’t about pretending feedback doesn’t hurt. It’s about creating enough space between who you are and what you do, so you can stay open, grounded even when the feedback stings.

If you’ve ever replayed a comment over and over in your mind, or felt a pang of self-doubt after someone “helpfully” pointed something out, I hope this offers a shift in perspective.

How To Overcome Fear And Do What You Actually Want To Do

In this episode of The 10-Minute Shift, I’m exploring fear, uncertainty, and the quiet (or not-so-quiet) voices that rise up when we move toward something we really want.

Fear has many faces - rejection, failure, visibility, not belonging. For me, it often shows up right at the edge of growth, when I’m trying something new or stepping into a new version of myself. So I’m sharing a few reflections from that edge, and what’s helped me stay in motion without needing the fear to disappear.

    Inside this episode:

    • A simple mantra that anchors me
    • The deeper roots of fear - worthiness, acceptance, self-trust
    • How I’ve learned to let fear be part of the process without letting it decide for me
    • Ways I reconnect with my values when uncertainty clouds the path

Want to Feel More Confident? Start With These Three Simple Shifts

Confidence is one of the most common things people tell me they want more of - and honestly, it’s something I’ve spent years exploring for myself too.

In this episode, I’m sharing a fresh, practical take on confidence:

    • Why confidence isn’t just a feeling you wait for — it’s something you build.
    • The three ways I think about confidence that have changed everything for me (and for the people I coach).
    • How to stretch yourself into real self-trust without tipping into overwhelm.

How To Stop Caring About What Other People Think and Start Creating With Joy

This episode of The 10-Minute Shift is a gentle, grounding reflection on creativity, fear of judgement, and letting go.

I talk about why FOPO (fear of other people’s opinions) stifles expression, how to create for joy rather than validation, and what happens when we trust the creative process instead of trying to control it.

    Why you might enjoy it:

    • You’re a creator who struggles with fear of judgement.
    • You’ve hesitated to share something important.
    • You crave a mindset shift that invites freedom and expression.
    • You love thoughtful, grounded content that reconnects you with yourself.

Why We Crave External Validation and How to Let It Go

In this episode, I’m diving into external validation - why we crave it, why it feels so annoyingly good, and how it can quietly take over if we’re not paying attention.

I share some thoughts on where this need comes from (hint: it’s very human), how it shows up in work and life, and a few gentle shifts that have helped me build more self-trust and internal steadiness.

You’re Not an Imposter. You’re Becoming.

Struggling with imposter syndrome? Feeling like you don’t belong in a new job, leadership role, or version of your life? You’re not alone - and you’re not an imposter.

In this episode of The 10-Minute Shift, I offer a new perspective on imposter syndrome. What if it’s not something to fix, but a sign that you’re growing? That your identity is expanding, and you’re in the in-between - no longer who you were, not yet who you’re becoming.

We’ll explore identity gaps, the myth of needing to “feel ready,” and why having a beginner’s mindset isn’t a weakness - it’s part of the journey. If you’ve ever felt like you’re pretending, this is your reminder: you’re not pretending. You’re evolving. And you’re allowed to be new.
