For every holiday we celebrate, there are those who dread it.
The holiday season comes with societal expectations that everyone needs to be happy. However for every person who is excited about family gatherings, decorations and gifts, there is another who is secretly wishing the upcoming weeks would disappear.
It is important to remember that struggles do not take a “holiday” during the holiday season. Often those who are struggling find their emotions magnified by the pressure of the season. The continued flow of daily life does not stop as we enter the holiday season. Each day there is someone who is providing care for someone who is sick, grieving the death of a loved one, coming to terms with the loss of divorce or job or even learning about their own illness. Often those who are struggling find their emotions magnified by the pressure of the season.
As a grief counselor, Sheryl often found her clients worrying about the holidays as early as August and some clients often wished February would simply disappear. In today's episode, Sheryl shares the ABC's of Coping With Grief During The Holidays which she developed with a coworker while working as a grief. counselor.
You or someone you love will likely find one or all of the suggestions and tips helpful.

We all have a coping toolbox, but do you know what tools you have in yours?
How do you cope with the stress of daily life?
What do you do to cope when your life becomes chaotic and you feel like could be falling apart?
Our personal coping toolbox is no different than the toolbox you have in your garage or under the cabinet. It could be full of tools we know how to use and others that are forgotten or we have no idea what to do with.
Although we each will need to have different things in our personal toolbox, in today's episode, Sheryl shares a few basic coping tools we each need to have in our tool box (think of it like having a hammer and a screwdriver). Additionally she reviews l tools and suggestions to consider in preparation for those times when life gets out of control.

What are the thoughts you have about yourself on a daily basis?
Do you struggle with such thoughts such as
"I'm not smart enough to apply for that job."
"I have never been able to stick to a routine."
"I'm clumsy and can't dance."
"I'm too old."
"No one will want to date me after my divorce."
Our thoughts are endless.....
When you and I have a thought over and over it eventually becomes our belief.
This belief becomes how we view ourselves, others and the world.
Our beliefs regularly limit us and hold us back.
Because seriously, are you really not smart, that clumsy and no one wants to date you?"
Everything in life, from how we see things, how we feel about them and how we react to them is determined by our subconscious belief system which is at the core of who we are.
In this episode, Sheryl discusses how we can become aware of limiting beliefs that we are not even aware of and how we can begin to change our belief system. It is time to stop holding yourself back.

Do you know where you are going?
Do you know how you are getting there?
The greatest struggle most everyone has is being spefic in what goal or dream they want for themselves. The second struggle is believing there is one specific way to get to where one wants to be.
We easily become frustrated without specifics and we can equally become frustrated when it seems everyone else is getting there easier than we are.
Today Sheryl discusses how just as a GPS navigation system needs a specific destination and offers different routes; we need to have specific goals and realize our routes are going to need to be different.

" I don't know."
How often do you state it?
Do you allow others to state it to you?
When you don't know, do you take the time to slow down and find out or do you keep going because you know you will not like the answer?
Many of us do know about the answer about what we are dealing with and we are avoiding. Saying I don’t know and going on about your business means there doesn’t have to be a hard decision or choice made.
However, you honestly not know and need to discover.
This week, Sheryl discusses how we can not grow and make changes in our life if we do not slow down and address the "I don't knows." in our life.

As an adult, when is the last time you simply made plans to do something for fun and enjoyment?
As adults, we often feel taking time to play is too indulgent.
We don't have time.
We don't have space.
We are too old for that.
Taking time to play is a way of resting our mind from our thoughts and worries and could be extremely beneficial in dealing with stress and anxiety in our lives.
In today's episode, Sheryl discusses that play isn't something only children can do and that as adults, we need it more than ever in our lives.

Sleep and Rest are not the same thing!
You may have found yourself saying you need to get some sleep and rest but when you wake you don't feel much better than the night before.
Maybe even after spending time watching a favorite movie or reading a book, you still feel you need something.
It is possible that you are not receiving the right rest that you need at that moment.
Our rest needs to go beyond the physical rest of sleep (and moving our body).
Proper rest can be broken down into:
Feeling overwhelmed and can't concentrate? You likely need to include mental rest into your day.
Feeling like you are always there for everyone and have no place to put your "stuff"? You need to consider checking in on your emotional rest.
Thinking the people you are around are draining you? You may need to schedule time alone or make time to be with people who give you energy and support.
In this week's podcast episode, Sheryl discussed the different types of rest we need to explore in our lives and how we can begin to feel more rested.

Are you choosing to be stuck there ?
The biggest hurdles many have in making changes is looking at the past and feeling stuck and defined by all of those choices that lead them to where they are today.
Our past behaviors are simply patterns we have chosen to follow. The past is not a prison we are unable to escape from and at any moment we have the option to choose a different pattern.
Past patterns in our life are repeated because we have not made a different choice.
In today's episode, Sheryl encourages you to begin making one different choice at a time as you work toward your goals.
