Moo has been in Michigan for the week and after working out with me in my garage, we had some thoughts (and an idea) on in-home workouts. In this episode, we debrief on the pros of the in-home workout and Moo offers guidance on basic movements for a person who wants to try strength training in the privacy of their own home. Also, we talk about how a lot of us have a random assortment of workout equipment in our garage or basement or closet, but we’re not sure what to do with it. If this is you, send Moo a DM on Instagram and she’ll create some daily workouts for you to try based on your goals and equipment. Thanks for listening! Stay cool out there!
Moo and I sit down and talk on our last night of vacation. Our week up north was full of activity and ice cream, so we discuss how it all went. Observing strangers helped me redefine my why and Moo and a few other family members took on a huge physical challenge while we were up north. I sincerely hope this episode inspires you to reflect and reset as we turn the corner into August! Thanks for listening!
Greetings listeners! In this Summer Series episode, we explore common food items and habits that people often question regarding their impact on diet. We finally discuss my love for half-and-half in coffee, the nutritional value (or total lack of nutritional value) of cereal, the impact of beverages on calorie intake, and if there is such a thing as too much ice cream in summer time. Overall, we keep coming back to the idea of the importance of understanding our own habits and finding a balance between indulgence and healthy eating.
Our summer series continues and this week we tackle various health hacks that are often overhyped or misunderstood. Moo and I delve into the misconceptions surrounding cortisol, vitamin D, and weighted vests. But hold up, just because something “isn’t worth the hype” doesn’t mean we totally dismiss it. I am sure that sounds confusing, but these issues are always more complex than what we see on social media. Join us for an episode that includes information, conversation, and nuance. Throw on your weighted vest and press play!

In this summer series episode, Moo tackles the question of vacation. I am going to the ocean and fully plan on indulging in lobster rolls and frozen custard. Can I enjoy all the east coast has to offer but not feel like a total failure once I get home? Moo and I discuss a five-step vacation plan designed to help me and our listeners enjoy our vacations without guilt while maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Moo emphasizes the importance of setting intentions, recognizing non-negotiables (did I mention the lobster roll?), and reframing the way we think about indulgence and health during vacations. Our conversation covers practical strategies for balancing enjoyment and wellness, including hydration, movement, and mindful eating.

This week on our third episode of the summer series, we tackle family nutrition. Whose job is it to make your family healthy? Is it only one person's job? That person, mom or dad, is probably feeling a lot of stress. So much stress they’ve even had a meltdown when someone at the table announced they could not eat their dinner because there was a light dusting of parmesan cheese on it. Just me? Either way, buckle up for an episode that we thought would be short, but ended up being long because there is a lot to talk about on this topic! We discuss a Self Magazine article entitled “How the MAHA Movement Threatens to Set Women Back Decades,” the MAHA report itself, and strategies for how to balance the responsibility of feeding a family.
Welcome to the second episode in our summer series. Today we are tackling dressings and sauces. Moo and I begin with a conversation on seed oils and then we move into how to make your dressings and sauces healthier if you want to! Or, if you want to eat your seed oil dressings, that’s cool too! But let’s get the right information and make the decision that’s best for us! That’s the FitSister way!
Welcome to our first episode in what we are calling “the summer series.” On each episode we are covering a single topic and today, we are revisiting pasta salad. Moo reports out on an NYT pasta salad recipe she piloted this week, Nat feels the need to defend the use of the noodle (and not some chickpea-replacement), and we end up connecting all of this to a William Wordsworth poem in the end. Let me tell you, this is content you can’t find anywhere else! We love you, listeners! Happy summer!
We begin episode 38 with yet another involving me, the donut, overeating chips (Patio Chips specifically) even though I am actually eating more vegetables. So while I am improving on one goal, I am still giving in to major chip cravings. Have no fear, the Fit Sister is here to help. Then, Moo gives us her very strong opinion on a recent episode of Science Versus. Finally, we end with a rousing debate on pasta salad. I bet you can guess who is “pro pasta salad.” Thanks for listening!
Listeners! Welcome to Episode 37. First and foremost, we check in regarding my vegetable goals and there are indeed some wins and losses. Let’s be real, this isn’t easy. Then we transition into a conversation about Gabby Reece and her recent interview on the podcast Ageist. As a 55 year old woman, Reece’s interview got us thinking about the importance of authenticity as we age. That’s kind of tricky when the world is telling us the opposite. It is so refreshing to see women over 40 in the public space having honest conversations about the phases of life that are ahead of us.

What do I mean by normal person? Well, unlike my sister, I need some help with the whole foods. More specifically, I have recently realized I need more fruits and veggies in my daily life. In this episode, Moo and I talk about real roadblocks to eating more vegetables (all that chopping!) and real solutions to embracing healthy, whole food eating habits. Also are carrots and mangoes “full of sugar”? Are there certain fruits and veggies we should avoid? (I sincerely hope she says no).

Are you working late, attending events for work and school and looking at a totally booked Google calendar? Are you finding it impossible to manage all the Sign Up Genius emails and figure out what to make for dinner? Does the idea of eating healthy and building in time for fitness sound totally insane to you right now? Then this episode is for you. It is May, people. This is not a drill. Your cars better be packed, your meals better be planned or it will take you down. Well guess what? It took me down. In this episode Moo and I talk about what happens when you don’t meet a goal and even more importantly, how to build practices and habits that don’t fall apart when things get crazy. And things are crazy!

What is up, fit sisters! Welcome to episode 34. On today’s episode we discuss Moo’s introverted approach to her birthday. Currently, she has shut down all of her friends’ attempts to celebrate her b-day. We unpack the philosophical implications of aging and how odd it can feel to “celebrate ourselves.” Then we discuss a recent NYT article about the “keys to longevity.” Wait, do we want longevity? Or do we want the summer bod? Is it impossible to have both? Listen along and then tell us how you feel!
Welcome back, listeners! We begin today’s episode with a Nat-life-update. In our last episode I talked about changing my fitness routine to focus more on daily movement and short weight-lifting sessions instead of a dedicated “workout. ” In this episode I tell Moo how it's all going. Then, we move to a listener email about GLP-1s. First, I discuss how I love food, how I have always loved food and it is nice to hear how much other people think about food as much as I do. Then, Moo gets into food relationships and the role of GLP-1 medications in weight management. Finally, we end with the return of skinny culture (but did it ever officially leave?) and how it’s all about understanding our own health and wellness journeys and trying our very best to block out these ridiculous body standards. Thanks for listening!
Welcome to this special episode of The FitSister Podcast! Moo was in for the weekend so did all the things a podcasting sister duo could do together. 1. Coffee. 2. Blow outs. 3. Make-up. 4. A recording session in an official podcasting studio. JOIN US for our first in-studio recording. We debrief on our make-up sessions (I tried fake lashes for the first time) and then we dive into a question that both Nat and a listener have-- how can we increase daily movement if our days consist of sitting at work, sitting at practices and driving to work and practice?
We begin this week’s episode with a tale from Planet Fitness. A man spoke to me at the gym (!), and I had to tell Moo all about my first interaction with a real-life gym bro. Then, we discuss the ridiculous and the real in the ever-growing world that is now called “the menopause market.” Moo recently attended a women’s health summit in Miami and is armed and excited with some new information. And of course, we end with Moo reminding us about the value of, you guessed it, strength training. As usual, thank you for listening! If you enjoy our weekly show, please share it with a friend.

Before I started really listening to my sister (which took a while), I assumed that a client who saw real change was a person who could count calories, had all the time in the world to go to the gym, and had iron-clad willpower. As it turns out, none of those qualities are actually the traits of a person who experiences meaningful change when it comes to health and fitness. In this episode Moo takes us through the five traits of a highly successful client.

Hello listeners! In this episode Moo and I start with a conversation about what I should make for dinner tonight and the rest of my life. Do you suffer from dinner-decision exhaustion? Because I do. Moo has some good advice for me in the world of meal planning, recipes and how to keep meals fresh and exciting. We then move on to a listener question about sourdough bread. And man, do I love sourdough bread. But is it all that it's cracked up to be in terms of health benefits? That would be great because it certainly is delicious! Moo weighs in on the sourdough sensation.

Hey hey listeners! We’re back. In this episode I tell Moo my tales of trying out a fancy gym. We discuss gym culture and finding a gym that aligns with our values. Then we move on to a listener question that asks about this whole protein intake situation. Basically, if you are over 40, you have probably heard that you need an insane amount of protein. No number is high enough. Think you’re hitting your protein goals, think again. It’s crazy! But wait, before we go eating three rotisserie chickens a day or spreading cottage cheese all over everything, let’s slow down and talk about it.

I have a problem. Do I like broadcasting my problem all over the internet and podcasting airspace? No, not particularly. But the premise of this entire project is that Moo and I talk through real problems that real people have. And so, dear listener, I confess my issue and you get to listen in on the advice and solutions. In this episode I ask Moo a question that I sincerely need her help with. And lucky for me, she is not the type of sister to say, “deal with it,” “you’re not trying hard enough,” or “just do better.” (But that’s what our brother might say! Tune in for Tough Love with Tough Brother in the future!) All joking aside, what begins as a simple question about eating turns into a conversation about stress management, anxiety, mindfulness, and self-compassion. Moo expertly handles my issue, and I walk away feeling armed with strategies and not an ounce of shame.
