Redefining Anger
Episode 50 - The Only Things Certain in Life Are Death, Taxes, and LOSS {a conversation with Alison Marshall}

Alison Marshall is a returning guest to the podcast. In her prior episode - Episode 16 - she vulnerably shared her story of grief involving the traditional AND non-traditional loss of her father, and the feelings of anger and embarrassment she felt with his loss. Now, returning to the podcast as a trained Grief Recovery Specialist, Alison dives deep into grief, and how it is the most powerful of all emotions. Tune in as Alison shares what grief really is, how it shows up, the importance in acknowledging it's presence, and the steps you can take to heal your pain.

Alison Marshall is a registered social worker and an addictions counselor for the Canadian military. She is a mama to 2 kiddos who show her where she needs to grow everyday. She defines herself as a dreamer with a silly heart. Alison has been a social worker for almost 20 years. In her private practice - Beyond the Hour Therapy - she offers both traditional therapy and coaching services. She is a trained hypno-therapist and is also trained as a Grief Recovery Specialist.

In this episode, Alison also talks about:

  • How grief is a normal and natural reaction to a loss of ANY kind;
  • How grief can also be described as the change or an end to a familiar pattern or behavior;
  • Many of us don't identify as grievers, but the fact is if we've been on this planet longer than 5, 6, 7 years, we've experienced loss of some kind;
  • There are over 40 different losses someone can experience;
  • When you can acknowledge the humanity of your feelings, you can move through it quickly rather than it getting stuck - when it gets stuck is when we judge it;
  • Grief contributes to mental health challenges;
  • The concept of staying in the room;
  • Your emotions ARE safe;
  • The myths about grief that we've been told;
  • There is no linear way to go through grief;

Redefining Anger
Episode 48 - Kidnapped in Somalia: The Incredible Journey of a Woman Who Turned Her Trauma Into Triumph {a conversation with Jessica Buchanan}

In this episode, Jessica Buchanan opens up about the most horrific and terrifying experience that forever changed her life. Join us as she takes us through the heart-wrenching details of her 93 days in captivity, revealing a story of unimaginable resilience and unwavering courage in the face of despair. Resilience doesn't even begin to describe the fortitude she displayed during her captivity. Jessica's journey goes beyond survival - she exemplifies the true meaning of sharing one's story. Instead of healing in hiding, Jessica has learned that openly and vulnerably sharing her experience led her to a path of freedom. This is her story.

Jessica Buchanan is a teacher, best selling author, humanitarian, speaker, and a kidnapping survivor. On October 25, 2011, while on a routine field mission in Somalia, working as the Education Advisor for her non-governmental organization, Jessica was abducted at gunpoint and held for ransom by a group of Somali pirates for 93 days. Forced to live outdoors in deplorable conditions, starved, and terrorized by more than two dozen gangsters, Jessica’s health steadily deteriorated until, by order of President Obama, she was rescued by the elite SEAL Team VI on January 25, 2012. Jessica’s ordeal is detailed in her New York Times bestselling book, Impossible Odds: The Kidnapping of Jessica Buchanan and Her Dramatic Rescue by SEAL Team Six. Jessica has been named one of the ‘150 Women Who Will Shake the World’ by Newsweek, and her story has been one of the most highly viewed 60 Minutes episodes to air, to date. Jessica has shared her story of overcoming impossible odds on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Today Show, Stephen Colbert, The Unbeatable Mind with Navy SEAL Mark Divine, and All the Wiser with Kimi Culp, just to name a few. Jessica’s story was the subject of Wondery’s Season 2 Against The Odds, and her TEDx Pearl Street talk, ‘Change is Your Proof of Life’ has been the foundation for which she travels the world, inspiring audiences to access their resilience by identifying their own autonomy and choice in the middle of their own life changing event, even when they feel they are out of options.

In this episode, Jessica also talks about:

  • The instant life regrets she felt as she fully realized the gravity of what was happening to her;
  • Her emotional journey throughout her 93 days in captivity;
  • The moment she realized the depth of her own tenacity & felt empowered with the opportunity in front of her;
  • The difference between options and choices & how we all have a choice;
  • How she intentionally & mindfully took the opportunity to relive moments and process feelings & emotions that had long been left unprocessed;
  • The connection she found with her deceased Mom out in the desert & how she became her beacon of light in the darkness;
  • How her kidnapping exposed deep self-abandonment.

Redefining Anger
Episode 46 - 11/11 Chronicles: A Spiritual Cinematic Reunion in Dreams

As I stood there watching the characters in my dream, like watching scenes unfold on a cinematic reel, I felt a presence to my right. A shadow appeared out of the corner of my eye, and there he was. As though he had descended gracefully from the heavens to join me in the theater of my subconscious, there my father stood with a radiating smile of warmth, bringing sunshine to my heart. As my heart skipped a beat, full of elation, I stretched out my arm to lock it in with his and nestled my head against his shoulder, seeking comfort and closeness in this presence. As expected, he welcomed me into his warm embrace, our souls reunited once again, for the first time in a long time.

Suddenly, the reel flickered, creating a dance of light and shadows, unveiling a different scene where we were now the main characters of the movie. Seated side by side, immersed in a deep conversation, I quickly noted the difference in his presence. Typically a visit from my father is so fleeting, like a moment lingering on the periphery of my memory. No, his presence was not fleeting, it was long-lasting, intending to leave a lasting imprint etched in the fabric of my memory.

Waking from my dream felt like emerging from a surreal world. As reality gently reasserted it's presence, I was reminded of the significance of the day. It was 11/11. Of course my father came to me in the most significant way. I wouldn't have expected it any other way. You see, his spiritual presence has always been associated with the time 11:11. The lasting imprint he left etched in the fabric of my memory was intended to be symbolically powerful and spiritually aligned. And that it was.

In this solo episode, I talk about the significance of this dream. I speak from my heart, sharing with you all the transition I am currently in, personally and professionally. I recap significant moments from the last year, that when reflected on in hindsight, the manifestation of these events becomes crystal clear. The Universe is working WITH me, with my dreams and desires, and my father came to me in the most special and symbolic way to remind me to keep going. Everything is happening just as it is meant to. I am in alignment.

And with that, I announce that change is coming to the podcast. I am not sure what this change will look like just yet, that is still something I am working on uncovering. I birthed this podcast on January 1st, 2023, in honor of my father. As we approach the 1 year anniversary - paired with the beautiful and iconic appearance of my father in my dreams - it is only fitting that I hold tribute in his honor and continue to share with you all my journey as it continues to unfold in the most beautiful and fateful way.

I thank you all for being here, for your continued dedication and commitment to my show. I trust that you will continue to hold space for me as my story continues to unfold. Stay tuned for more to come! In the meantime, I have four more amazing conversations to share with you, conversations with courageous women vulnerably sharing their story. Their truth.

Redefining Anger
Episode 45 - A Year Into Sobriety She Still Felt Hungover {a conversation with Colleen Kachmann}

In this episode, Colleen Kachmann shares about her recovery journey from alcohol after 12 years of suffering from alcohol use disorder. She dives into the moment she made the decision to quit, the steps she took to support herself in her road to recovery, and how she learned that identifying as an alcoholic and promising to stay sober forever is a mistake. As Colleen explains, it's not about the alcohol, it's about your relationship with yourself. Tune in as Colleen gets real about how our thoughts are the real habit we need to break, and how she uses emotional sobriety to help women through their own recovery journey.

Colleen Kachmann is the host of the Recover With Colleen podcast (soon to be It's Not About the Alcohol: Holistic Recovery & Emotional Sobriety). She's a Master Coach helping women to reclaim their personal power through emotional sobriety. Most of her clients come to her looking to escape the alcohol trap. They quickly discover this is a thinking problem, not a drinking problem. And that identifying as an "alcoholic" who can't control herself only makes it worse. Colleen developed the 12-week Accelerated Recovery Process© using evidence-based strategies in neurophysiology and psychology to help women heal from shame and transform their sense of identity so they can learn how to trust themselves...with or without a drink in their hand.

In this episode, Colleen also talks about:

  • As powerful as it felt to speak her truth, it felt equally powerless to say she's an alcoholic and commit the rest of her life to being in recovery;
  • Her motivation to live a functional life while constantly hungover was tied to shame, and how shame continued to be the motivator long after sobriety, ultimately keeping her stuck;
  • She relied on perfection to feel happy and thought that being sober was the perfect way to be;
  • Awareness is the ability to tell the difference between what's going on in the mind and what's going on in the world;
  • Feelings are the only facts you need to deal with - your thoughts, limiting beliefs and self-negative thinking are what cause the feelings;
  • 99% of what we're thinking about is a product of our imagination;
  • How we feel is a product of what's going on in our head, not the outside world;
  • The belief that you can't control yourself is far more damaging than alcohol ever is;
  • We can't control the thoughts in our head but we can control how we respond to them;
  • You can't think yourself out of a thinking problem.

Redefining Anger
Episode 44 - A Full Circle Moment: How Consistent Daily Habits Lead to Success {a conversation with Pamela Brett}

In this episode, Pamela Brett shares about her journey as a school teacher, in particular, teaching at a school with marginalized children. Everyday was a challenge, facing constant pushback and backlash from her students. Pam speaks about the immense anger that was projected at her from her students, and how at her weakest moment, she chose to persevere rather than give up. Using her intuition as a guiding post, Pam showed up each day, met her students where they were at, and lead each one of them to success. Tune in to hear this remarkable story, and how Pam continues to lean into her passion by paying it forward in coaching other teachers.

Pamela Brett is a Mathematics Specialist and the founder of a non-profit. She was a K-8 math teacher and math coach, as well as a curriculum writer. She has her Doctorate in mathematics education with a focus on how teachers attend to students' beliefs and emotions around learning math. She believes that every person is a math person and it is her life's mission to help people (kids and adults) see their potential as a mathematician. Pam is an avid reader of all things math education, and is currently working on launching her podcast - Blue Glasses Math - into the world for all to "see" math teaching and learning through different lenses.

In this episode, Pam also talks about:

  • The moment she realized her students were never held accountable to think for themselves, and how this was the turning point for her that kept her going in the midst of the daily challenges;
  • Her mentor's guidance was to "just get through the year and get them to graduation", but Pam knew these kids needed more from her than just traditional text book teachings;
  • How she not only persevered through the anger being projected at her from her students, but how she also persevered through her own emotional turmoil to be there for them at the time that they needed her the most;
  • She followed her intuition and taught in alignment with how she wanted to feel, which ultimately allowed her students to flourish;
  • Pam saw her students as humans, took the time to get to know them and relate with them, which formed deep connections and trust in her relationships with each of them;
  • By fulfilling her needs first, she was able to fully serve the kids and give them what they needed.

Redefining Anger
Episode 43 - The Silent Killer: Resentment as a Passive Aggressive Form of Anger {a conversation with Adriana Mastronardi}

In this episode, Adriana Mastronardi shares about her personal transformation journey that she embarked on after having kids, and how this path opened the door to so many opportunities for her. After spending the better part of her 30's invested in having kids and giving all of herself to provide for them, she grew resentful and realized she didn't remember who she was anymore. When Adriana started putting herself first, she healed much of the resentment, which also positively benefited her family. In Adriana's words, "when you feel better about yourself, everyone benefits". Tune in to hear about Adriana's incredible transformation journey and how she now supports women with their own journeys.

Adriana Mastronardi is an Environmental Engineer turned high school math teacher. She is a busy mom of three and is pursuing her passion of coaching women in nutrition and fitness. She has been helping women reclaim their health using nutrition and fitness to guide that process. Her mission is to show women that making time for themselves and filling their cups first allows them to create space and time for those around them. She has two nutrition coaching certifications and her ISSA personal training license. You can follow her on Instagram @cup.of.dri for all things health related and to explore 1:1 coaching.

In this episode, Adriana also talks about:

  • How she felt resentful and the passive aggressive anger she felt for not having time for herself;
  • Her definition of resentment as "the silent killer";
  • As you change and others start to notice, they can get confused and uncomfortable by the change, but it's important to keep going and lean into what makes you happy;
  • The impact stress can have on someone's health, even if they appear to be physically healthy;
  • No one else takes notice when you act out anger in a passive aggressive manner, so it only creates more resentment and does more harm to you;
  • Adapting to the different seasons of life you're in and permission to rediscover yourself through those seasons;
  • There are different seasons of consistency, and there is no perfection in consistency.

Redefining Anger
Episode 42 - Lost & Found: "No Place Feels Like Home" {a conversation with Kimberlyn Owens-Hughes}

In this episode, Kimberlyn Owens-Hughes shares her unique story of moving to Chile and planting her roots there, where she fell in love, got married, and had a beautiful little girl. Her journey into motherhood, parenting with a partner from a different culture with different values, changed the trajectory of their relationship. Resulting in divorce, Kimberlyn shares about the anger and resentment this created, being stuck and tied down to Chile for a number of reasons, and really losing her sense of self. She has learned to persevere through the trials and tribulations, finding safety and connection in community, and learning to create her own home in being where her feet are. Tune in as Kimberlyn shares how she has learned to process her anger and resentment and how it has changed the way she parents.

Kimberlyn Owens-Hughes is an American, single mom to a 10-year-old daughter, living in Valparaiso, Chile for the past 17 years. She is an English teacher and translator turned online community creator and co-work space holder for other women. She is co-owner of The Village, a virtual co-work space and community for female freelancers, small business owners, and work-from-home moms. She and her business partner also publish weekly episodes on their Parenting and Productivity by Design podcast, which delves into human design and how we can use it to parent and work better, from a place of true alignment and ease.

In this episode, Kimberlyn also talks about:

  • Feeling completely blindsided by her former husband, the father of her child, when he chose to walk away without making any effort in their relationship;
  • How she was also cut out by her former sister-in-law who was her only support system at the time her husband left her;
  • In the midst of the chaos, feeling completely alone in a Country that was not her own, her home was broken into, leaving her feeling violated and even more lost;
  • All of the events that transpired, including single parenting in a foreign Country, Kimberlyn lost her sense of self leaving her feeling like she was a stranger to herself;
  • How she feels stuck and tied down in Chile, and if it weren't for having a daughter with a father whose roots are in Chile, she likely would not be living there anymore;
  • Even when she visits her family in the US, it also doesn't feel like home;
  • As she works through her anger and resentment, there is still sadness and grief that remains to be processed;
  • Rather than trying to rush the healing process, Kimberlyn is allowing herself the time and space, and giving herself grace as she continues to navigate the whirlwind of emotions that remain present;
  • Her daughter has been her biggest teacher on the importance of feeling and processing emotions, and how she parents differently due to her experiences.

Redefining Anger
Episode 41 - Come Back to Presence: Here Are the 6 Crucial Elements to Staying Present

"Growth isn't always about the future you or who you could be. Sometimes, all the growth you need is learning to be right here. Come back to presence. Embrace what you already have and who you already are. Appreciation for today is the most powerful thing to do for your tomorrow." - @moonomens

In this episode, I talk about:

  • The power in staying in the present moment rather than living in the past and worrying about the future;
  • Learning to be right here is a skill and there is so much growth in that;
  • Today is yesterday's future, so what you do today is paving the path to your tomorrow;
  • Surrender to the unknown by living in the moment and allowing your today to pave the path for your tomorrow;

In this episode, Ashlee Livingstone openly shares about her unexpected journey into motherhood, and the anger and shame she so deeply felt and experienced, but hid from everyone else. She walks us through the shame that was put on her by her doctor, that she accepted as her own truth, and how she held resentment against other women for so long due to being lost in her own anger and grief. Ashlee walks us through how the practice of breathwork has allowed her to release much of the anger and shame she held on to for years. Tune in to this empowering story and for a special glimpse into what breathwork is all about.

*SPECIAL EPISODE* - A little something for YOU! Listen through to the end where Ashlee walks us through a brief breathwork practice that you can use to help calm yourself in the immediate moment.

Ashlee Livingstone is a personal growth & emotional wellbeing coach and breathwork facilitator, who is on a mission to support busy high achievers, business owners and growing entrepreneurs in reaching their goals without sacrificing all their joy, time, energy, and freedom along the way. Ashlee focuses on helping her clients get the life they want, right now. She knows, from personal experience, that when we are living our lives in the past or too far in the future we are not present or aligned with what is important now. She helps her clients tackle their limiting beliefs, regulate their nervous system and enhance their focus on what really matters to them - now - so they can truly thrive.

In this episode, Ashlee also talks about:

  • The power of breathwork - how it is a beautiful combination of science and woo;
  • The range of benefits breathwork provides;
  • How breathwork allowed her to develop her intuition where she actually started to trust herself for the first time in her entire life;
  • Emotion is energy that just needs to move, and breathwork is a beautiful, safe practice that allows for that much needed emotional release;
  • How she was defined as an angry child/teen, and how without having healthy coping mechanisms, anger stayed stuck in her body for years;
  • The blame and shame placed on her by her doctor for her inability to get pregnant, and how she accepted that shame as her truth;
  • How she went through 5 years of fertility treatments without telling anyone about it due to the shame she felt;
  • The resentment she felt against other women due to being lost in her own anger and grief;
  • We can be happy for others and sad for ourselves at the same time;
  • How the practice of breathwork has allowed her to release much of the anger and shame she held on to for years.

*Ashlee also walks us through a beautiful breathwork segment using the Halo Active breath pattern*

Redefining Anger
Episode 39 - Waiting For The Next Shoe to Drop

Nervous needs hope. Hang on to hope in those moments that feel impossible. Hope for success. Hope for my ability to do this. Hope in myself. Hope and confidence. And confidence comes by doing. Taking action. Optimism needs me to keep dreaming, keep holding on to my vision, and be curious. Be willing to jump in and see where the dice will fall. Hold on to my dream and vision and take actions that get me closer.

In this episode, I talk about:

  • How resistance can present itself as incompletions in our lives and by taking action and pushing through the resistance, we release the power our incompletions have on us;
  • Taking the uncomfortable actions get you closer to confidence, which helps to shift the energy you embody;
  • We manifest everything in our lives, the energy we put out into the Universe is what will come back at us;
  • Everything is mindset and energy, we are the creators of our lives, we create our own reality;
  • How feeling happy feels uncomfortable, because we are always waiting for the next shoe to drop;
  • The key is in allowing yourself to feel ALL your feelings and emotions - the good, the bad, the ugly, and everything in between;
  • You are worthy of feeling good, and feeling worthy is fully accepting yourself and that starts with self-forgiveness;
  • Learn to give to yourself rather than take from yourself;
  • Give yourself permission to feel good, don't sabotage yourself by waiting for the next shoe to drop.

Redefining Anger
Episode 38 - Navigating an Unexpected Journey Into Motherhood & The Emotions of a Culturally Diverse Family {a conversation with Sarah Wittry}

In this episode, Sarah Wittry openly shares about her unexpected journey into motherhood - involving infertility, a failed international adoption, foster care adoption, and IVF. She discusses navigating a culturally diverse family and how she adjusted to having the family she has rather than what she imagined having. Tune in as Sarah reveals the challenges and the range of emotions she has experienced and how she has persevered through it all.

Sarah Wittry is a Hospice Palliative Medicine Physician, and host of the Vibrant Humans podcast, who is currently pursuing a life coach certification to support female physicians and high-achieving working moms. Residing in Columbus, Ohio with her husband, 4 kids, a dog, and a cat, Sarah defines herself as an adventurer, a dreamer, a reader, a traveler, a connector, yogi, and an idealist.

In this episode, Sarah also talks about:

  • Her self-development journey and how she learned to embrace her desires rather than resist them;
  • How she gave herself permission to allow what is possible;
  • When we give ourselves permission to act on our desires, we ultimately give others permission to do the same;
  • Her unexpected journey into motherhood, how she wasn't prepared for what transpired, and how she had to relinquish control;
  • The anger and shame that presented itself in not being able to naturally become pregnant;
  • The fear and uncertainty that both she and her husband faced through their adoption and fostering journey;
  • Learning how to parent various ages simultaneously;
  • Managing the emotions and energy of a culturally diverse family and the importance in allowing her children to write their own stories;
  • How optimism and hope kept her going through all of the challenges, and how each challenge provided confidence to handle the next challenge.

Redefining Anger
Episode 37 - Procrastination: Permission to Get in Motion to Get Back in Action

"The mistakes smart people make: being in motion vs. taking action. When you're in motion, you're planning and strategizing and learning. These are all good things, but they don't produce a result. Action, on the other hand, is the type of behavior that will deliver an outcome. Motion allows us to feel like we're making progress without running the risk of failure. It makes you feel like you're getting things done. But really, you're just preparing to get something done. When preparation becomes a form of procrastination, you need to change something. Motion will never produce a final result. Action will." - James Clear

In this episode, I talk about:

  • My interpretation of motion as being busy and staying productive;
  • Why we stay busy and productive and why this is a coping mechanism for avoiding feeling uncomfortable feelings/emotions;
  • Action is the discomfort, action is pushing through and feeling the uncomfortable feelings/emotions to get through to the other side;
  • The concept of incompletions - things in your external or internal environment that are weighing you down and holding you back;
  • Permission to get in motion to back in action;
  • Boundaries! Knowing yourself well enough to move through the motion to get back in action without staying stuck in motion;
  • Permission to explore and test out what works for you and what doesn't - this is how you get to know yourself;
  • Using your anger to fuel you, to bust through the barrier and get back into action.

Redefining Anger
Episode 36 - How to Unlock Productivity by Managing Yourself {a conversation with Christina Slaback}

In this episode, Christina Slaback shares about her relationship with anger; how for years she suppressed the uncomfortable emotions and busied herself to avoid them, not realizing that anger was hiding underneath the surface. She pushed herself outside of her comfort zone and did the exact things she didn't want to do, but instinctively knew she needed to do, to help herself process her emotions and become the leader of her own life.

Christina Slaback is cohost of the Parenting & Productivity by Design podcast, co-founder of The Village Community and Cowork space, coach, entrepreneur, and homeschooling mom of two. She helps driven women to create a lifestyle in accordance with their values. Drawing on her background in Psychology and 20 years of experience serving as a director of nonprofits, she creates a customized approach for her clients to streamline their business and personal values to create more ease and joy.

In this episode, Christina also talks about:

  • How anger can manifest in different forms, such as dissatisfaction or resentment;
  • The societal expectations on women and not being allowed to be their authentic selves;
  • We put a lot of value on productivity, in being busy, and in getting things done;
  • We turn discontent to being busy thinking that more will make us feel better when what we actually need is space and to take a step back;
  • How so much of time management is actually managing yourself, otherwise a strategy is just a bandaid;
  • The things we don't want to do are the exact things we need that make us feel better;
  • Rather than use kids as an excuse for the way we feel, use them as inspiration to do the things that we know we should be doing for ourselves, and for them;
  • When you show care for yourself, you show up differently in every other area of your life;
  • Your highest leverage action may be to take a step back and reconnect with yourself, which ultimately leads to more productivity;
  • The five types of Human Design and how they play a role in how we show up.

Redefining Anger
Episode 35 - Gentle Mondays

Ever since I left corporate, it's been a challenge for me to let go of that corporate mindset - Monday to Friday, all or nothing mentality.

I've always struggled with Monday's, getting the dreaded Sunday scaries (I'm sure many of you can relate).

I've been working on shifting this mindset - really striving to own my Mondays & make them mine.

The last few weeks I have embraced allowing my Mondays to be exactly what I need them to be for ME.

A day to ground myself and ease into the work week vs. hustle hustle hustle. This has really allowed me to show up how I want to show up Tuesday to Friday, and own my week!

And I'm here for it!

What about you? What are your thoughts on Gentle Mondays? Tune in to this episode as I talk about the concept of incorporating a schedule - time and energy - that works for you and is in alignment with how you want to feel. Regardless of what your work environment looks like.

In this episode, I talk about:

  • The transition from corporate to entrepreneurship is very much an identity shift;
  • Hustle culture and how it sets certain expectations on us that lead us to living on someone else's terms rather than our own;
  • Perfectionism plays a role in the hustle culture, grooming us into how we "need/should" be;
  • Boundaries are guiding posts to being true to ourselves;
  • Being true to ourselves may lead to uncomfortable emotions, and that is ok - we need to allow those feelings to be present;
  • How we need to give ourselves permission to own our time and energy;
  • We have to be willing to test it out - trial and error - to see what works and what doesn't work, what feels most aligned to us;
  • It is OK to own your "lazy".

Redefining Anger
Episode 34 - From Chaos to Peace, How She Intuitively Manifested Her Desires {a conversation with Andrea Anderson}

In this episode, Andrea Anderson shares how she intuitively manifested her desires and taught herself how to shift from judgement to compassion. She dives into the messy middle of her journey to self-discovery, while also helping her neurodiverse sons evolve. She reiterates that there is nothing perfect about processing our emotions, which is a key component to our own evolution.

Andrea Anderson is a Health & Emotional Wellness Coach, Speaker, and Author. She is also a wife and mom to two sons. Andrea helped her sons improve and move past special needs associated with ADHD and autism, and was in the thick of stress, chaos, and anxiety for many years. However, she learned over time (from coaches, books, programs, courses, and her own intuition), how to shift out of anxiety and stress and begin to feel more at peace, even with chaos occurring around her. She now helps mothers do the same for themselves - find ways to feel at peace in the midst of the chaos - so they can get along with their kids & family, and actually love their life again.

In this episode, Andrea also talks about:

  • How the brain has a negativity bias to keep us safe keeping us in survival mode, and how we have to be intentional to shift out of that survival mode;
  • How nutrition played an important role in her neurodiverse sons' evolution;
  • Our go-to emotion is our emotional homebase, which has everything to do with our upbringing;
  • Too many emotions left unprocessed becomes overwhelming, like leaving too many tabs open on a computer;
  • The three things she has leaned on to help her shift from judgement to compassion (music - gentle, physical touch - the "how is this ok?" tool);
  • When we lack compassion, we are in fearful thoughts about ourselves;
  • There is no right or wrong way - it is ALL ok.

Redefining Anger
Episode 33 - FEAR: What Is It Really & How Do We Disengage From It?

FEAR - False Evidence Appearing Real

The dictionary definition of fear is that it is an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain or threat.

It all comes back to our thoughts and what we choose to believe as fact. Remember, thoughts are JUST thoughts.

Tune in to this episode to learn the five steps you can take to disengage from fear and co-create with it so that is loosens it's grip on you.

In this episode, I talk about:

  • How limiting beliefs are the stories we tell ourselves, and how these limiting beliefs can really keep us stuck in fear;
  • When we label something as bad (aka a perceived threat based on our limiting beliefs), it is usually fear-based;
  • When we sit in the fear of the unknown, not knowing if the fear will come true or not, then we stay in our comfort zone (aka we stay stuck);
  • Our brain has a bias to keep us safe, so when we stay stuck in fear, that is the brain's way of keeping us "safe", of protecting us;
  • It all starts with self-awareness - awareness of our thoughts and what we are choosing to believe as real;
  • The phases of a woman's menstrual cycle and how this can significantly play a role in how we feel from week-to-week and even day-to-day;
  • The five steps to disengage from fear and co-create with it so that it does not completely control your life;
  • Messages from the other side that I have received to validate my worth and validate that I am more than fear.
