Episode 37 - Procrastination: Permission to Get in Motion to Get Back in Action

"The mistakes smart people make: being in motion vs. taking action. When you're in motion, you're planning and strategizing and learning. These are all good things, but they don't produce a result. Action, on the other hand, is the type of behavior that will deliver an outcome. Motion allows us to feel like we're making progress without running the risk of failure. It makes you feel like you're getting things done. But really, you're just preparing to get something done. When preparation becomes a form of procrastination, you need to change something. Motion will never produce a final result. Action will." - James Clear

In this episode, I talk about:

  • My interpretation of motion as being busy and staying productive;
  • Why we stay busy and productive and why this is a coping mechanism for avoiding feeling uncomfortable feelings/emotions;
  • Action is the discomfort, action is pushing through and feeling the uncomfortable feelings/emotions to get through to the other side;
  • The concept of incompletions - things in your external or internal environment that are weighing you down and holding you back;
  • Permission to get in motion to back in action;
  • Boundaries! Knowing yourself well enough to move through the motion to get back in action without staying stuck in motion;
  • Permission to explore and test out what works for you and what doesn't - this is how you get to know yourself;
  • Using your anger to fuel you, to bust through the barrier and get back into action.
