What happens when social media is no longer what it promised to users, creators and even businesses? The last few years social media platforms have fully become hosts of media and also advertising platforms leaving many users with nostalgic feelings but it’s clear there’s no turning back. Facebook, instagram, TikTok are the drivers of these key changes as they focus on making money instead of proving communal spaces for global connectivity as they promised.

SEO has always been hailed as the one and only thing you need to master in order for your YouTube videos to be watched by millions of people. African startups heavily depend on foreign investors from Europe and North America for funding and one of the key demands for a lot of them is for African startups to have white founders in order to be considered for funding. Some call this demand a form of discrimination which is what this episode seeks to expound on from a business perspective.

The problem with the communication around climate change lies in the messaging. There’s so much scientific jargon that it makes many not really care because they don’t understand why they should care.
In this episode, I outline ways in which climate change activism and advertising can be done using marketing concepts in order to create impact that pushes people to care about climate change and make the necessary changes for a better world.

Femicide is not just a crisis in Kenya but a global one and yet no one is doing anything about it. This is because many women who have taken the frontline in speaking up about this issue are using passive strategies that seek to touch people’s hearts in the hope that they will care about women’s lives but this is not working.
In this podcast episode, I am putting my marketing expertise to work by crafting strategies that will see the end of femicide. These are strategies that speak the language of patriarchal systems that don’t value women’s lives. In order for the patriarchy to listen to women, direct strategic action that is visible needs to be implemented.
To create sustained cultural change that respects women’s lives, women have to step up from being damsels in distress to strong human beings capable of dishing what they have been served. Women have to wake up and speak the language of the patriarch, show that the world is at the mercy of women because if they choose to, they could decide to no longer continue the legacy of men who do nothing but commit atrocities against women.
The good men need to show their goodness by ensuring that bad men do not continue to commit their crimes without accountability.
This crisis will come to an end when the patriarchy understands that women are just as capable of doing what the patriarchy does.

A lot of young people are struggling with making friends and the loneliness epidemic and there’s a lot of blame game going round about why this is so.
However, capitalism, which is the dominant economic structure is the reason why more people are lonely, friendless and struggling with friendship.
Capitalism hates friendship because it is not profitable. That’s why we are seeing a rise in low maintenance friendships on top of the loneliness epidemic.

Politics is always described as a dirty game and for good reason. It always focuses on the spectacle of extreme ideologies meant to rile people up, putting them against each other just for a few people to get power.
This dirty game of politics is exactly why business owners stay away from public political affiliations because it may lead to the alienation of a huge segment of consumers which isn’t a good strategy for business.
Even while exclusivity is often used by many companies, it is a reverse psychology tactic that pushes more people to want to buy a product. In business, pushing people away is unheard of because to make money, you need as many people as possible buying from you, even those who you’re not targeting in the first place.

Making money in YouTube is one of the biggest goals of any YouTuber. Unfortunately for many African YouTubers, because of the low CPM rates, it means that even when you have thousands of views, the Adsense that you get is not as competitive as those in other areas like American YouTubers.
In this video, I highlight some of the factors that lead to a low CPM, why African audiences have little to no advertiser value and how African culture influences the resistance to change and embrace of new forms of media and technology.
