Hello Humans!
Welcome to the 70th Show housed in “The Human Theatre”.
In this episode, I’m joined by Jana Retief from The Noakes Foundation for a powerful conversation that challenges the status quo of modern health. We explore the legacy of Prof Tim Noakes, the landmark trial that sparked a movement, and how grassroots initiatives like Eat Better South Africa are transforming sick-care into true healthcare. Together, we unpack the myths, confront the misconceptions, and shine a light on the growing evidence that’s shifting the tide in nutrition and medicine. If you're ready to question the science and be part of the change, this one’s for you.
Jana Retief is the Foundation Manager at The Noakes Foundation, where she leads operations, research coordination, and supports strategic growth efforts across multiple initiatives, including Eat Better South Africa. With a diverse background in the non-profit and educational sectors, Jana holds an M.A. in Drama and Theatre Studies and a postgraduate degree in Psychology.
Her work spans community development, research, project and operations management, and stakeholder engagement, with a particular focus on nutrition, metabolic health, and evidence-based public health in underserved communities.
Jana is passionate about helping people live healthier, more empowered lives and is dedicated to advancing practical, science-based solutions that challenge conventional thinking in health and nutrition.

Hello Humans!
Welcome to the 78th Show housed in "The Human Theatre".
In this episode, we unpack the buzzy world of GLP-1 agonists (think Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro) — are they revolutionary tools for metabolic health, or just another expensive quick fix? We’ll break down how GLP-1s actually work in the body, their surprising effects on appetite and blood sugar, and why they’re being called the "miracle weight loss shot."
But we’re not stopping there — we’re also diving into natural, science-backed ways to support your own GLP-1 production through food, lifestyle, and gut health.

Today I am going to break down why I’m quitting coffee, my experiences so far, how it’s impacting my overall health and well-being, and what I’m doing instead. If you’re dealing with burnout, chronic fatigue, or digestive issues, this episode is for you.

Hello Humans! Welcome to the 74th Show housed in “The Human Theatre”.
The menstrual cycle is considered a vital sign, just like our temperature, blood pressure and pulse, and any change or irregularity in the menstrual cycle is a symptom that should not be ignored. In fact, the menstrual cycle is kind of like our very own built-in bio-feedback tool that lets us know how we are doing. While there are other conditions, such as PCOS, that result in irregular or missing periods, infertility and an ovulation, today’s episode highlights one condition that is actually really close-to-home and unfortunately increasingly common, and that is Hypothalamic Amenorrhea.
At the time of this recording, it is said that 17.4 million women have HA worldwide, and HA accounts for 1/3 of cases of secondary amenorrhea in women of reproductive age. Whether or not HA applies to you, this episode, and conversations like these, are undeniably important because unfortunately, HA is ever-increasing in prevalence. And to begin this important conversation, I’m bringing onto the show today Olivia Geraci.
Olivia is a certified Personal Trainer & Virtual Health Coach who helps active women rebuild their strength and confidence without obsessing over weight or aesthetics. After overcoming years of under-eating, over-exercising, and period loss, she now empowers women to fuel their bodies, train effectively, and feel strong without restriction.
Through personalized coaching, she supports women recovering from disordered eating, hypothalamic amenorrhea, and body image struggles, guiding them to build strength and trust in their bodies. Her approach focuses on performance, well-being, and sustainable habits—helping her clients feel capable, confident, and healthy beyond the scale.
Olivia and I dive deep into Olivia’s Hypothalamic Amenorrhea Recovery story, eating disorders, body pressures, specifically on social media, overtraining, misconceptions about HA & eating disorders, losing yourself to Eating Disorders and “Fitness”, what it takes to recover from Hypothalamic Amenorrhea and Eating Disorders, body fat versus muscle, fearing weight gain and Olivia’s top tips to overcome the fear, ravenous hunger, irregular periods within the fitness industry and SO much more.
Share this episode far and wide! These are the conversations we need to be having if we want to face the crisis of infertility, eating disorders and disordered eating.

Hello Humans! Welcome to the 71st Show housed in “The Human Theatre”.
Addiction is an exceptional example of a word that comes with a whole lot of stigma. And today’s guest breaks down Addiction in a way that has completely revolutionised the understanding of Addiction as we have come to believe it, validating the experience of addiction and challenging the stigmas associated with it.
Today’s episode covers: Bitten’s own addiction story, the bio-chemistry and patho-physiology of Addiction, the disease concept of Addiction, the different types of addiction (you are going to be surprised at how many known addictions there are!), process versus substance addiction, protocols to treat addiction, the difference between harmful use and addiction, addiction as a multi-dimensional brain illness, why practicing physicians need to address the possibility of underlying addictions within their patients (especially those with Type 2 Diabetes, Insulin Resistance or any metabolic dysfunction), differentiating between addiction and eating disorders, why bio-chemistry overrules psychology, why addiction is more about the brain’s RESPONSE to the drug (substance or process) than about the drug itself, Bitten’s non-negotiables in her daily life and why she has been able to remain abstinent for so many years, why recovery is an athleticism, and so much more!
This episode is a MUST for anyone who knows someone or anyone who has or is battling with addiction. Bitten is a leading force in the addiction medicine space, and her work is exceptionally important and applicable. So please, share, share, share this episode! It could make a serious impact on someone!

Hello Humans! Welcome to the 69th Show housed in “The Human Theatre”.
Today’s episode is officially the longest episode of “The Human Theatre”. Today’s episode is also one of the biggest and eye-opening interviews I have ever done.
Today’s guest is Dr Anthony Chaffee. Dr Anthony Chaffee is an American medical doctor and neurosurgical registrar who, over a span of 20+ years, has researched the optimal nutrition for human performance and health. It is his assertion that most of the so-called chronic diseases we treat are caused by the food we eat, or don't eat, and can be improved, and in some cases even reversed, with dietary changes to a species specific diet. He began University at the age of 16 studying Molecular & Cellular Biology with a Minor in Chemistry, which culminated in an MD from the Royal College of Surgeons. He is an All-American rugby player, former professional player in England and America, and has also trained in MMA fighting at AMC Kickboxing in Kirkland, Washington. More recently, he volunteered as a doctor in the refugee camps in Bangladesh, helping survivors of the 2017 Genocide.
Today, Anthony and I dive deep into his backstory, the plant kingdom - essentially botany, the history of the guidelines as we know them today, the composition of the brain, neurological and neuro-developmental disorders, brain health, concussions, brain injuries, rugby and so much more. Anthony even shares his top workout tips!

I speak a LOT about physical health optimisation on this podcast, but there is another significant ‘leg of the stool’ in optimising health that cannot be ignored and/or overlooked, and that’s our mindset. And today’s guest is without a doubt, one of the most insightful, wise and knowledgable Humans I know, helping people become the 'drivers of their own cars’, reach their full potential and overcome barriers to change.
Today’s guest is Tracey McBeath. Tracey McBeath lives in Melbourne, Australia. She is a mum of 5, an author of two books, global health and life coach and coach mentor, a Nutrition Network lecturer and mentor, qualified personal trainer, public speaker, and podcaster. After a poor health diagnosis at 40, she transformed her life and health. Now at 50 she is leaner, healthier, and full of energy to keep up with her full and thriving life.
If you are struggling to make the changes you know you need to do to reach your goals, or are feeling stifled in any way, or are a health geek like me and always want to gain insights and knowledge on how we can better optimise our lives, you need to listen to this! And share it with anyone you know who might benefit from listening!

Hello Humans! Welcome to the 66th Show housed in “The Human Theatre”.
Today’s guest has been on my list of dream guests from before I even started this podcast, and he is no other than THE Robert Sikes, a.k.a KetoSavage. I was honoured to have been interviewed on his podcast several years ago (which I will link in the show notes) and finally we were able to schedule a time for us to record an interview for my Podcast.
Robert Orion Sikes is a lifetime natural, competitive bodybuilder. He started training as a junior in high school weighing a whopping 115 pounds. In the beginning, he followed traditional, “bro-dieting” wisdom which consisted of eating 6 or 7 meals a day filled with carbohydrates and very high protein. This nutritional protocol led to a downward spiral of health issues and disordered eating.
After his third bodybuilding competition, Robert decided to try something new and began experimenting with a high fat, strict ketogenic approach to bodybuilding. He formulated his own approach to contest prep nutrition leveraging keto and earned his pro-status with bodybuilding in 2017.
He has since dedicated his life to learning and teaching others the benefits of following a well formulated, ketogenic lifestyle. The lessons learned led to his creation of the Keto Brick, a 1,000 calorie, ketogenic performance meal. The Brick was never meant to be a product sold to the public. Robert just created it for his own personal use during his competition prep. However, after featuring it on a YouTube video, he received a ton of interest around the Brick and decided to jump in with both feet to make it into a viable business. After countless late nights and a never ending grind, the business took off and has since become a wild success!
Robert now works alongside his wife Crystal and their amazing team to continually create content and Bricks and add a ton of value within this community. His mission is, and will continue to be, empowering others to believe in themselves and truly tap into their full potential by optimizing their body and mind.
We dive deep into nitty gritty of Robert’s dietary, electrolyte and hydration and workout strategies, hormonal health, specifically within the bodybuilding space, protein manipulation, Robert’s thoughts on protein supplements and shakes, psychologically dealing with a changing physique, entrepreneurship and so much more. You are going to want to listen until the end. And if you know of anyone who would benefit from hearing this, please share share share.

Hello Humans! Welcome to the 64th Show housed in “The Human Theatre”.
Today’s guest is Sean ‘Sako’ Sakinofsky. On a high level, Sean is the leading pioneer in the field of low carb high fat ultra endurance cycling. He has performed feats that are staggering and defies the current landscape of sport science. Sean continues to do so in order to promote healthier lifestyles via not eating refined foods and sugars. In 2006, Sean founded a supplement company which advocated the usage of carbohydrate. Some years later, he found himself moving away from a high carb, low fat diet, owing to his discovery of being gluten or wheat intolerant. In 2013 after losing his father to Oesophageal cancer, he started to “look out of the box” and saw a correlation between the high carb, low fat diet and lifestyle diseases such as cancer and cardiac problems which plagued both sides of his family. It was then when he adopted a Ketogenic diet and also got out of the carbohydrate supplement business. Since adopting the ketogenic diet 9 years ago, he has proven the efficacy of it, now living in better health and more freedom.

Hello Humans! Welcome to the 63rd Show housed in "The Human Theatre".
If you are ready to take your digestion and gut health to the next level, join me on this little ride as I walk you through some of the biggest game-changers that a) have given me the most benefit and b) COST NOTHING! No expensive supplements (although I do not discount their efficacy in some cases, e.g Hydrochloric acid with Pepsin for someone who has low stomach acid), no prescription medications no nothing!
Also, although most of these tips relate to the things we do before, during and post eating a meal, our digestion directly relates to our overall gut health. So for the purposes of this episode, gut health and digestion will be used synonymously. I hope you are ready to take notes!

Hello Humans! Welcome to the 62nd Show housed in “The Human Theatre”.
I am so excited to be sharing today’s show with you in which we take a deep dive into the complexities of the Mother-daughter relationship (and any relationship really), Drama Therapy and how it works, creativity as a tenant of health, Intergenerational Cycles, the power of the mind-body connection, healing, trauma, Human Connection and so much more.
Our guests today are Ananda Fuchs and Margie Pankhurst.
Ananda is a a certified TRE practitioner and an experienced facilitator of holistic healing and development, education, dance training, and performance art with a passion for community upliftment.
Ananda utilises a trauma-informed and healing-centred approach to the body’s stories with the primary aim of creating a safe space for others both in-person and online, incorporating principles of recovery, discovery, creativity and curiosity.
Margie is an HPCSA registered Arts Therapist (MA in Drama Therapy) who works in both private practice as well as non-profit organisations with children and adults.
She fundamentally believes in the mental health-promoting properties of creativity and has a keen interest in the power of story: the stories we tell ourselves about ourselves. Intergenerational cycles are implicit in these stories. The question then becomes: what is the story I tell about myself to the other women who are part of my DNA: my mother, my daughter(s)?
How do we make space to listen and to be heard by these women so that we acknowledge our separateness and our bonds?
More than that, Margie, Ananda and their colleague, Jessica Mayson, are hosting “Mothers & Daughters” - a series of three full-day workshops in the beautiful and serene suburb of Noordhoek in Cape Town, South Africa. The workshops will be held on the 4th, 11th and 18th May 2024. There will be a whole lot of nature, story, creative expression, embodiment, and connection. Spaces are limited, so be sure to secure your spot by clicking on the links provided below!
