On this episode of the show I am joined by this years Great South Run winner, Verity Ockenden. Verity has previously finished in 2nd and 3rd at this race and so to come back, after injury, and be crowned champion of 2025 was a big deal and huge motivator moving forward. This episode really follows on well from our previous show with Chris Thompson as Verity is coached by Chris. Alongside that fact, Verity also brought some family history and ties to Portsmouth, making the whole weekend a dream come true.
As always, to kick the episode off, Daniel and Dave hook up for a warm up chat, discussing Dave's recent 3rd place finish at the epic Lon Las (253 miles!), the upcoming Smogathon (world's greatest race!) and of course a bit about the Great South Run!
As always, thank you for listening and happy running everyone x
On this episode I welcome two time Olympian, and three time winner of the Great South Run onto the show - Chris Thompson. We were extremely honoured to have Chris agree to come onto the show with just over a week to go before the Great South Run, to talk about his own running and racing, with a focus on the Great South. He brings a wealth of experience, knowledge and stories to share on this episode. And on top of all of that he will also be heading down for this years race weekend too. Our city continues to see running growing in popularity and the Great South Run is a big part of the running calendar. We discuss the importance of events like this and the joy running brings to everyone.
And to take us into this weekend show, Daniel & Dave have time for a quick catch-up for the first 15 minutes, where we discuss chocolate, the passage of time, and Dave's new cat - Charlie, amongst some other things too.
Happy running everyone x
On this episode of the show I am joined by local runner and friend Andy Briggs, who joins us all the way from the Chichester University Sports & Science laboratory. Andy and I discuss the different types of gains that can be made for athletes when they make use of laboratories like they have at Chichester. Environmental chambers, sweat testing, Vo2 Max and more. Our show host Dan DP and others in the area have made use of these previously for events and it was a great discussion with Andy finding out all about how this works.
On top of it all, Andy has been kind enough to offer a discount (valid for a period of time from this episode launching) to all listeners who may want to use the laboratory. That code is PRP20 for a 20% discount. Amazing. Thank you to Andy and the team for taking the time to make this all happen.
And as always, Dan and Dave get together for a mega long overdue catch up. Happy running and smart training everyone! X
On this 100th episode of the show we are joined by local runner Nayeem Huq who a year ago moved back to Dhaka in Bangladesh. Nayeem has taken all of his running and training experiences from Portsmouth, and continued it all on in his home city. I wanted to chat with Nayeem to discuss the similarities and differences between running over there and over here. One thing for sure is that it was great to hear that running is growing in popularity everywhere, and not just here in the UK.
Thank you to my guest Nayeem for taking the time out of his evening to come on and speak with us, and thank you to all of you listeners who have joined us over the past 6 years on the show to hear so many stories and tales from the running community. Here's to another 100 episodes right!?
Lots of love, Daniel & Dave x
On this episode of the show, both Dan and Dave have a long time catch up chat where we get to hear about Dan's most recent race. He took part in the Leeds Liverpool Canal Race which is a 130 mile race starting in Liverpool and finishing in Leeds. A breathtaking run through some scenic canal paths that wind their way through the countryside between the two cities. Dave let's us in on his training for the upcoming Lon Las which is an epic 250 mile race from north to south Wales. With weeks left we find out how he's feeling and what he has left to do to prepare for this mammoth event.
Once again, thanks for listening and we hope you enjoy the content x
On this episode of the show we are joined not only by our featured guest Carla Molinaro, but also our now local famous RunningLate beer mile winning team, the Deli Boys. For those who follow the world of trail and ultra distance running will definitely know of Carla and her impressive running resume. Having recently just finished in the top 6 at Comrades Marathon, Carla joined me with a focus on this show on her SCY for Runners app. We did also cover some Hoka shoe chat with the recent new releases from the brand, including the Rocket X3's. And we were also joined on this show by Luke Blay, representing this years winning beer mile team who drank and sprinted their way to victory this year, and being crowned champions. I think a lot more visitors through the doors at the deli have come from this!
And as always, Dan and Dave kick the show off with some very random (well planned maybe) running chit chat. We hope you enjoy this episode. Lots of love from us! x
On this show I am joined by local City of Portsmouth Atheltics Club runner Cassie Thorp. Cassie's running results are really impressive with a string of victories to her name, including very recently where she took the win at the Worthing 10k. This was after coming back from a recent injury too. It was great to have a general running chat together and find out all about her training and racing ethos, the club, family and hobbies too.
On top of it all, Dan and Dave finally got a chance to catch up in what was an extended introduction to discuss Dave's recent win at Cardiff to London. We also discussed the SDW100 results, the Southsea Community Run, and the upcoming SMOGATHON in November. And there's even more too!
As always, thank you for listening as we move close to our 100th episode. A planned revamp and update to the show is due too! Enjoy the episode and happy running everyone x
On this episode of the show I was pleased to get to chat with local long distance runner, Simon Withers. Simon and I met a couple of years back at a track session in Portsmouth where I recall chatting with him about running, racing and long distance events. Simon is one of the most humble runners you'll find who is sparking a lot of interest with the local community all around his own nutritional experiments. Want to hear more? Join us on this episode with Simon and Daniel.
Also, our co-host David Harvey wasn't around today after having completed the Mark Cockbain Cardiff to London, 200 mile race - and taking the win. We get to hear more from him on the next episode. Happy running everyone! x
Welcome to this episode of the show, which is a mash up of three segments, kicking off with a long awaited catch-up with Daniel and Dave, chatting through recent races, events, training, and cooking! We are then treated to a discussion and event catch up with Daniel and Helen Newman who both took part in a 100km treadmill challenge at the Portsmouth University last weekend. Find out all about it in this segment.
And last but not least, our featured guest Ollie Biddle who will be taking part in an extreme running challenge on the seafront next Saturday, the 26th April near the Brinny. Ollie will be taking on an extreme distance run between two cones for a great charitable cause. Listeners and runners may want to know what's going on, so they can support, cheer and join Ollie for a couple of laps even.
Once again, thank you for listening to the show. We love running. We love our city. We love what running gives to people within the city. Take care and enjoy those miles x
What does it take to finish a non-stop 200 mile race? What if that race was in a one mile long tunnel? What if the lights went out over night making it completely dark? Well, on this show we hear from a 2025 finisher, winner and incredible new course record holder, Alex Marshall.
Alex joins Daniel on the show to discuss how she approached this years event, and discusses how the race went down on the day. Or rather, days! Running an event like the Tunnel presents some very unique challenges in what is really a one of a kind race. Alex has a very impressive list of event wins and has a solid training routine she shares, that prepare her and keep her in great shape for lots of long distance races through the year.
I thoroughly enjoyed recording this episode and the only downer was that Dave could not join us on this show, but will be back on the next episode for a full recap of Daniel's race too. Enjoy the content! x
On this episode of the show I am joined by Stephen Cousins who created the YouTube channel called Film My Run. It is a channel that has been of great help to me over the years when I've needed to research into possible races I'd like to enter. Stephen is experienced running in Portsmouth having done the coastal marathon and also the Great South Run many times in the past. And who knows - maybe he's agree to come and do the SMOGATHON this year? To find out if so, listen to and enjoy the show. It's full of some great run chat as we dive into Film My Run and a whole heap of other interesting topics.
And as always, to kick start things we hear from Dave and Dan for a ten minute runtroduction! Happy running everyone x
Runners of Portsmouth, we are pleased to bring you an epic episode of the show with our two amazing guests, Neil Smith and Lila Rasche, who join us from Lano Yoga in Southsea. Lila and Neil bring a ton of passion about the benefits of yoga not only to the body, but the mind too. The conversations took some really great pathways quite naturally as we all took a dive into the world of yoga. Thank you so much to our fantastic guests for taking the time to join us. And to Dave for helping put this one together, as a student at Lano himself. Daniel hopes to join in soon for a go!
Please enjoy the content and share freely. Happy running as always x
Happy New Year to our listeners, new and old! Kick starting the year off in a big way with our first episode of 2025 covering the largest Running Show in the world - the National Running Show! And joining us on this episode to give us a run down of what to expect at the end of this month, is Event Director Craig Hanratty, from Raccoon Media Group. All questions are answered in our discussion with Craig, who also gave us some sneak previews as to some very exciting events happening as part of the weekend. Thank you to Craig for also sharing a code with us: PORTSMOUTH - which will give listeners one week to obtain a free ticket for the show. Just enter the code at checkout.
And to kick things off, Daniel and Dave catch up for a first chat where we really didn't have too much to say, but obviously made good use of our twenty minutes as we always do yapping away. From both of us on the show, we wish you well for 2025 x
On this episode of the show we are joined by our long time running friend and the man behind many races in Portsmouth each year, including this years coastal marathon and half marathon races, Rob Piggott from Believe & Achieve. Rob gives us the inside scoop about what to expect next weekend for Portsmouth's festive running fun, including the route, what to wear, the medal and what lovely beverages we can expect at the aid stations.
We can't wait to see many of you there. Do say hello and ofcourse, have a fantastic Christmas and stay safe. Thanks for listening x
On this weeks episode of the show, we bring you the 2024 SMOGATHON race report, courtesy of Dan and Dave, and also, three special guests who each took part in it - the worlds greatest race. Joined by Kim Holloway, Panya Sinsuebphol and Paul Turner, we dive into some details about the event itself and hear from our guests about how they found the experience.
We hope you enjoy this special episode and stay safe out in all the storms this weekend x
On this episode of the show we welcome Centurion Running founder and Race Director James Elson to have a chat with us about his races. Anyone in the area who has or will be running ultra distance events in the future, will no doubt end up at one of James' races. They have provided thousands of runners with a fantastic platform to learn how to participate in this sport, along with many opportunities to take part at distances from 50k to 200 miles. In this chat we get to discuss ultra running in the UK in close relation to our very own beautiful trails on the South Downs Way. And particularly with regards to the South Downs Way 100 which is one of Centurions flagship races.
Thanks to James for coming onto the show and taking the time to speak with us. And as always, Daniel and Dave introduce the show with a twenty minute warm up, full of juicy bits. Happy running everyone x
On this episode of the show our hosts Daniel and Dave share their experience and stories from this years Centurion Autumn 100 mile race. The race took part a few weeks ago and they've both now recovered and processed the race enough to share some stories and accounts from the day and night. Daniel and Dave both speak about Centurion Running events as a great place for learning how to run and race ultra marathons safely and as well as one can. A theme that is common for many runners in Portsmouth and the surround areas.
As always, thank you for supporting by listening to the show and good luck with your own training and racing over the coming month of November x
On this episode of the show we welcome on Roger Watling from Run Walk Local, which is a fun and friendly and very welcoming 2k and 5k community run that takes place every Sunday at 09:30. The event start is located at Hillsea Lido, and has been taking place since it was first formed, originally as part of the Great Run organisation. Now, in it's newer form, as Run Walk Local, volunteers continue to put on these events every week. Another excellent running option for the people of Portsmouth and surrounding areas.
And as always, Dan and Dave kick off the episode in a nervous way as they are both attempting to run the Centurion Autumn 100 this coming weekend. More on what the universe has in store for us on the next episode. As always, have a fantastic weekend running. Lots of love from us both x
Portsmouth is fast becomming a most excellent running hub, with so many running options for people. On this episode we welcome Max Eacott who started RunSouthRun - one of the many wonderful running options we have here in Portsmouth. It was really great speaking with Max about his own running and training, starting RunSouthRun and also about his own Personal Training business too. Max is a motivated chap and a lovely human being, putting other people first as a passion. If you've not been along to RunSouthRun yet, do give it a go. They meet outside of Hunter Gatherer each Sunday morning at 08:30.
And as always, Daniel and Dave warm us up with some halloween themed running antics and chat. Thank you for listening as always x
We are delighted on this show to bring two of Portsmouths junior runners, Romilly and Oliver, to discuss their training and racing. After visiting the track a few times, we have noticed that there are some fantastic sessions being run by coaches from various clubs and it is truly a wonderfuly sight. To see so many children outside, enjoying the training together. There's always a lot of laughter and joy being had on the track, but also an incredible about of concentration and hard work too. A beautiful balance!
And as always, we bring you 20 minutes of warm up with hosts Daniel and Dave. Dave talks about his recent North Downs Way 100 finish, along with some chat about the recent Olympics. Including, the breakdancing!
As always, thank you for listening and supporting. Happy running everyone! x
