The Constellation Cup is one of the fiercest rivalries in world netball — Australia vs New Zealand — four brutal tests, pride on the line, and no room for weakness. But after Sunday Aryang’s ACL injury in the most recent series, many questioned whether fatigue and scheduling are putting players at risk.
In this episode, I dive into the science behind fatigue and injury:
How fatigue changes the way your body and brain perform
Why ACL risk increases under pressure and exhaustion
Whether female athletes are truly being overworked — or underestimated
And what smart training and recovery should really look like
It’s time to ask the hard question: are we protecting our athletes, or preventing them from progressing?

Today I’m joined by my friend and fellow coach, Hayley Kirby (@thegoodplaceuk), mum of four, mentor, PT and queen of keeping it simple when life is anything but. We dive into how she manages it all: how to protect time for you without drowning in mum guilt, why convenience (not the cuisine) is what you actually want on takeaway night and how to feed a family with wildly different tastes without turning dinner into a hostage situation.
We chat:
The “Kirby AGM”: a brilliant, no-nonsense family planning ritual that shares the load
Simple, high-protein, family-friendly meals
Busting unhelpful “food rules” and teaching kids to trust fullness
Using convenience on purpose so Fridays don’t default to apps and delivery fees
Letting kids try new foods with zero pressure
Training, work, and doing HYROX while running a household
A frank take on England Netball’s pathway, coaching development and what it’ll take to compete with Australia
If you’re juggling netball, work and family (and occasionally your sanity), this one’s for you. Practical, compassionate and very real.

This week’s episode was inspired by the Women in Sport #TimeTogether campaign and their latest report, Active Women, Healthy Lives.
I’ve been thinking a lot about the role we play as mums, not just cheering from the sidelines, but showing our daughters what’s possible when we make time to move, to play, and to look after ourselves.
In this episode, I talk about why it’s on us to be the example.
To show that netball doesn’t stop after school, after kids, or after 40.
We can still play, lift, run, and thrive and when our daughters see that, they learn that sport is something you grow with, not out of.
We’ll chat about the barriers women face when it comes to staying active, why strength training matters more than ever, and how we can make #TimeTogether more than a hashtag.
Because when we keep playing, our daughters keep believing.

7 years ago, I crossed the finish line of my first ultramarathon. 60 kilometres, over 8 hours of running, and absolutely no idea if I’d even make it to the end.
In this episode, I share the story behind that race, from early morning solo training runs, to being “dumped” by my training partners, to the emotional and physical battle of making it to the finish line.
But this isn’t just about running. It’s about doing hard things, the kind of challenges you take on purely for yourself.
We all face moments in life where we doubt what we’re capable of, but it’s in those moments of discomfort and uncertainty that we grow the most. When you do something hard, you prove to yourself that you can handle difficult things and that belief spills into every other part of your life.
So, what’s your ultramarathon?
What’s the hard thing you want to do purely for you?
Tune in for a raw and honest conversation about self-belief, resilience and how pushing beyond your comfort zone builds confidence and opportunity in every area of life.

There’s a lot of noise right now about ultra-processed foods (UPFs). From dramatic TikToks to scaremongering headlines, it can feel like every packet of bread or protein bar is out to ruin your health. But here’s the truth: the poison is in the dose.
In this episode, I break down what UPFs actually are, why cutting them all out isn’t realistic (or necessary) and how they can even support your netball performance. Think sports drinks, gels, cereal bars and protein powders. The exact things that can help you recover faster and fuel better on court.
Instead of stressing about whether something is “processed,” let’s zoom out and focus on what really matters: eating enough protein, fuelling your body for training and enjoying food without guilt.

What does success actually look like to you?
In this episode, I dive into why so many of us put pressure on ourselves to follow a plan perfectly and then feel like we’ve failed when life gets in the way. I share a story from one of my clients who achieved something incredible on court after injury, but still walked away feeling like she’d had no impact. Sound familiar?
We’ll explore why our brains work this way, how the Reticular Activating System (RAS) filters what we notice and how gratitude journalling can re-train your mind to focus on your wins instead of your “failures.”
Success isn’t about perfection. It’s about defining what it means to you, and allowing yourself to celebrate the progress you’re making along the way.

Your thoughts can make or break your game. In this episode, I’m diving into the power of self-talk and how the voice in your head directly impacts your performance on court.
We’ll explore why your beliefs matter more than any training plan or nutrition programme and I’ll share simple, practical strategies you can use in the moment, whether it’s after a missed shot, a turnover or when you feel like you can’t keep up to reset and refocus.
If you’ve ever found yourself spiralling with negative self-talk during a match, this one is for you. By the end, you’ll have tools to flip those thoughts, hold strong body language, and bring your focus back to the game so you can perform with confidence.
