Most people would just see Dan Lucchini as crazy. He goes to sleep at 6:30pm and wakes up around 1:30am each day to train.
He goes to unbelievable lengths during races ... you'll soon hear... further than you and I would go 😂 and he is the most driven person I have ever met!
In this episode, we talk about his WHY and what makes him tick.
Dan’s story is much deeper than fast running times and early alarms. With Master’s degrees in both Strength & Conditioning and Counselling, he brings serious depth to his running, run coaching and life philosophy. He’s about chasing sustainable performance: physically, mentally and emotionally, but most importantly leaving it all out there and putting heart and soul into everything he does.
We chat about:
Dan is intense. He’s thoughtful. He’s real. He's a legend.
And I bloody loved this convo.
If you love it too, please share it on your socials or with a friend. I appreciate you listening.
Giddy up!

Daniel Lucchini is an Australian Ultra Runner and Online Run and Strength coach through his own business, Meraki Performance.
In May 2024, Dan broke the course record in the the gruelling 84 km Bali Hope Ultra, an overnight ultra marathon traversing Bali's mountainous terrain. In fact he didn't just break it, he obliterated it! How do I know that? Well I held it with a time of 8:14:42, until Dan ran a phenomenal 7:21:47!
Dan's approach to endurance sports is deeply rooted in both physical and mental resilience. With a Master's in Strength & Conditioning and Counseling, he emphasises holistic coaching that integrates movement, mindfulness, and recovery. Through Meraki Performance, Dan supports athletes of all levels, helping them build sustainable habits and achieve their goals.
I hope you enjoy this edition of The Warm Up - a quickfire round of fun, running-themed, and personal questions to get to know Dan before we dive into his full episode.
Dan's full story is coming next week—don’t miss it. It’s seriously inspiring and it was a pleasure to spend a week with him in Bali as part of the 2025 Bali Hope Ultra.

In this episode of The Long Run With Sean Bell, I sat down with my great friend Lachy Cameron. Lachy is an Australian Ultra Runner and mental health advocate who transformed personal adversity into a powerful mission for change.
In 2024, he broke the Fastest Known Time (FKT) record for running from Brisbane to Sydney—completing the 925 km journey in just over 10 days. This monumental effort raised over $33,000 for the mental health charity Heart On My Sleeve.
Lachy's journey into running began in 2021 as part of his recovery from severe depression and a suicide attempt. What started with short runs and walks evolved into a life-saving discipline. Running became his therapy and a way to reclaim his identity.
Lachy shares his story of resilience, the mental battles behind his physical feats, and how he turned personal pain into purpose. It's a raw, inspiring conversation about grit, growth, and the power of showing up for yourself.
I hope you love the episode and if you do, please leave a review and share it with others.

This week on the podcast, my beautiful girlfriend Chloe was the host and interviewed me about the come down from my 2024 run around Australia. Fair to say it has been a brutal time for me since the run and I've felt the lowest of lows. I still have a long recovery road ahead but there is some light at the end of the tunnel.
We dive deep into:
Whether you're a keen ultra runner or just curious about what drives someone to run around Australia and the impact it has on you, I hope this conversation will inspire you and empower you to find your own limits.

In this episode, I sit down with Phil Gore, Australian Backyard Ultra legend and one of the world’s toughest ultra endurance athletes.
Phil shares his journey from starting with running 5k's a day in 2015 to becoming Australia's best ultra marathon runner.
We dive deep into:
Phil’s story isn’t just about running. It’s about staying the course, trusting the work, and choosing to endure — not for the spotlight, but because he loves the process. A true legend, and someone I’m proud to be friends with. Welcome to Episode 1, Season 2 of my podcast, with a new title, The Long Run with Sean Bell. I’m excited to be back with a new season of the podcast, after a big hiatus as I prepared for and executed my run around Australia.
In this episode, I take you behind the scenes of my journey—shaped by loss, discipline, resilience, and a commitment to raising my standards.
I’ll share how running first entered my life, how being a football bench warmer drove me to become the athlete I am today, and how running my first marathon in 2017 led to my goal of running around Australia—a dream realised in August 2024, after six years of relentless hard work.
I recently broke the world record for running around Australia, covering 14,530 km all up. I ran 13,964km around mainland Australia in 166 days, at an average of 84km, or 2 marathons a day, and 566km in Tasmania from Devonport to Hobart and back.
If you’re new to my journey, you’ll learn that this wasn’t just a run around Australia. It was about honouring lost loved ones, while chasing my dream to helping other sick kids achieve theirs. Thanks to many amazing people who supported the journey, together we raised $177,000 for Make-A-Wish Australia.
You’ll hear about the amazing people who have coached and mentored me, the setbacks, and the triumphs that shaped me along the way. You’ll also learn how my coaching business has evolved from First42K to JDS Run Coaching, and where I’m at now physically and mentally after the beautiful, but brutal run around Australia.
This episode offers a raw, unfiltered look into my life, filled with lessons and stories that I hope will inspire you to pursue your own personal and professional goals.
Whether you’re also planning a big running expedition, or tackling any other big life goal of yours, I hope my story empowers you to giddy up and level up your life. If I could go from a bench warmer to a world record holder, then I know that greatness is possible for you too.
I look forward to bringing you a new podcast each week, where I’ll focus primarily on solo episodes offering run coaching advice, training tips, and lessons to help you grow as a runner and a person. Occasionally, I’ll bring on other everyday people who’ve achieved remarkable endurance feats, to highlight their unseen stories.
Whether you're chasing a personal best, looking to run your first 5k through to an ultramarathon, or simply tackling life’s challenges, I’m here to help you go the distance.
Giddy Up,
- Seany

In today’s episode, I caught up with a great friend of mine, Victor Wong, who is a humble running machine.
With a run streak of over 3,000 consecutive days, Victor prioritises his health and fitness and is a great example for others that we can all move more to be healthier and happier.
As a Personal Trainer, Victor has a passion for helping others be more active.
What I admire about Vic is he is an everyday person who works full-time, yet he is doing something extraordinary.
I love his humility and I love how he is driven by the growth of the people closest to him like his partner Michelle and other friends who have supported him through his run streak.
Join me as we delve into Victor’s inspiring story.
Unfortunately, Victor isn't on Strava or Instagram for you to follow his running, but just know that he is out there getting it done every single day. A huge inspiration to us all - someone clearly not in it for social validation, simply to better himself and level up in his own life!

Today’s episode is dedicated to First42K Co-Founder Jase Cronshaw.
In early June 2021, I sat down on a podcast with my coach and business partner Jase. It was lockdown 4.0 in Melbourne and given we had launched First42K just 2 months earlier, we thought why don’t we record a chat about how it came to be. I can’t tell you how glad I am that we took the opportunity to have this conversation, and I’ve been waiting for a time that feels right to release this episode.
Devastatingly, Coach Jase passed away suddenly on the 15th of April, 2022. Jase left an enormous legacy on the running community, truly changing people’s lives.
He had a huge passion for helping people fall in love with running, he was an amazing athlete in his own right and he regularly volunteered at trail running events with his best mate DJ as a sweeper.
I hope you learn some training tips from Coach Jase to help you with your running. Jase and DJ taught me how to run smarter, not just harder, transforming me and many others they coached into incredible runners, and more importantly healthier, happier, and more confident people.
This episode was recorded over a year before we started the First42K podcast, so I’m grateful that I had my good friend Rien MacDonald host the episode to guide our conversation.
If you enjoy this episode, please take a screenshot and share it on your on Instagram story, share it with a friend, subscribe to our podcast, and leave a review.

In today’s episode, I catch up with Tom Dade.
Tom is a phenomenal young Ultra Marathon runner from Mornington, Victoria in Australia, who has not only completed, but won some of the hardest ultra-marathons in Australia like Down Under 135 and the Great Southern Endurance Run 100 miler, and has also represented Australia in the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships.
Tom shares his story about how he got into ultra running, and how ultra running “makes him feel most like [him]”.
Amazingly, Tom has completed over 50 races (50km through to 200 miles) since he started ultra-running in 2019. See Tom’s list of extraordinary achievements here https://thomasdade.com/ultrarunning/
If you’d like to connect with Tom, the best place to do so is on Instagram at @thomasthetankdade https://instagram.com/thomasthetankdade
P.S. We were pushed for time when we recorded this episode and I felt like I didn’t give Tom the best chance to share his INCREDIBLE story. To be honest, I debated whether to release it. However, I decided to release it because I want to strive for consistency, not perfection, and I look forward to having Tom back on the podcast one day soon where we can chat in a lot more depth about how he has overcome adversity, and his relentless pursuit to be the best he can be!

In today's episode, I hosted HGG Performance founder, Mick Sears, who made the commitment to run his first marathon at the 2023 Gold Coast marathon, back in November 2022 live on his own podcast called Squeeze the Juice, when he had me as his guest. Mick wanted to run a marathon for several reasons - the enormous personal growth that comes with the journey, to inspire his team at HGG Performance, and to be a real-life case study of someone who doesn’t like running and isn’t a runner, but trains for a marathon for the first time with a coach, integrating HGG products into their training regime. It was a pleasure working with Mick to help him prepare for his first 42k and to see him realise his goal at the Gold Coast Marathon. There were many laughs throughout this podcast, and we hope you enjoy it! A quick warning: This episode contains discussions of a death that occurred during the marathon. We would like to pay our respects to this person’s family and send them our prayers. If you enjoy this podcast, please leave a review and share it with others! Thank you for listening.

In today’s episode, I caught up with Matt Daniels, a running legend from Geelong, Victoria. Matt Daniels to many would be seen as superhuman, someone you could quickly label as “a natural runner” if you didn’t dive deep into his journey and understand the amount of work he has put into becoming the person he is today. Matt has achieved several enormous feats like running from Adelaide to Geelong, 55 marathons in 55 days, and 535 half marathons in 535 days. He has fundraised thousands of dollars for causes close to his heart, and shown others that anything is possible with a strong enough WHY. What I find most inspiring, is he has done these things whilst working full-time, and supporting his family of 5 children. He shows others that while life is busy, we can all get outside and be more active to be healthier and happier. Matt has been a great mentor for me and many others in the running space. It was a pleasure to host Matty on the podcast and we hope you enjoy it.

In today's episode, First42K Co-Founder and Run Coach @seanbellruns hosted Erchana Murray Bartlett, the current Guinness World Record Holder for the most consecutive marathons ran by a female. From August 2022 to January 2023, Erchana ran 150 marathons in 150 days, from the Tip of Australia in Cape York, to the Toe of Australia in Melbourne. Her journey inspired thousands of people from all over the world and raised over $132,000 for her charity partner, The Wilderness Society, which helps protect Australia's unique wildlife and places. This episode was recorded in early March this year, just 7 weeks post her epic challenge. Since then, she has her energy back and recently smashed out a strong half marathon and marathon in back-to-back days at the Gold Coast marathon. I can’t wait to see what she does next! In today’s episode, I reflect on my BVRT 200 Mile Ultra experience.
From 6:09pm, Thursday 15 June 2023, until 11:30pm, Saturday 17 June 2023, I was running on the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail! That is a total of 53 hours, 21 minutes and 37 seconds!
The BVRT 200 miler course is an out and back run, where you start in Ipswich, run 100 miles to Yarraman, and then 100 miles back to Ipswich.
I was excited to take on this epic challenge with my great friend Jordan Chenery. Whilst I was living in Melbourne and he was living on the Gold Coast, we both trained hard for this event and supported each others training.
Through this episode, I answer your questions, speak about the ins and outs of the event, and share how I prepared for it physically and mentally.

The Bali Hope Ultra is an ultra-marathon race that brings together passionate runners from around the world who aim to use their running to make a difference.
All of the runners have been training hard and fundraising for The Bali Children Foundation for months, a charity dedicated to providing education for disadvantaged Balinese children.

Welcome to today's episode, where I had the pleasure of hosting Tom Hickman on the podcast.
In 2017, faced with personal challenges after a divorce, Tom made a decision that ultimately changed the trajectory of his life… instead of drowning his sorrows at the pub, he laced up his running shoes and embarked on a remarkable journey.
Tom set his sights on an audacious goal - to run 84 kilometres across Bali in aid of the Bali Children Foundation, a charity dedicated to educating disadvantaged Balinese children. His extraordinary effort raised an astounding $10,000 AUD!
Little did Tom know that this experience would become the spark that ignited the Bali-Hope Ultra, a life-changing week that blends the power of running with philanthropy. The Bali Hope Ultra is far more than your average ultra marathon race - it unites passionate runners from across the globe, driven by the desire to make a difference in the lives of disadvantaged Balinese children.
Since the inaugural event in 2018, thanks to Bali Hope Ultra runners, donors and all other involved, just short $1 million Australian dollars has been raised for this noble cause.
And the 2023 Bali Hope Ultra just happened! I had the honour of being a support runner to assist all the runners on the course, including many first-timers, as they conquered the gruelling 84 km ultra marathon.
Get ready to be inspired as we delve into Tom's extraordinary journey and explore the life-changing experience that is The Bali Hope Ultra!

In today’s episode I hosted Vanessa Angerer on the podcast.
Vanessa is a friend of mine from the Gold Coast of Australia. With a huge passion for running, fundraising and inspiring others, she’s achieved several running feats that are both impressive and motivating.
Earlier this year at the time of recording this episode, V had just completed her 25 FOR 25 challenge, where she ran 25km each day, for 25 days and finished on her 25th birthday. She did this to support a mental health charity close to her heart called Livin, whose purpose is to break the stigma surrounding mental health. Livin promotes the message 'it ain't weak to speak.'
Like many people including myself who strive to achieve great things, V shares that she struggles with giving herself credit and finds it hard to reflect on her achievements. I found her vulnerability through this conversation authentic and inspiring. I know she will continue to lead, educate, help, and inspire others both in the running space and outside of the running space for many years to come.
It was a pleasure to host V on our podcast, and I hope you enjoy this inspiring conversation.

In today's episode, I hosted Brian Upton on the podcast. Brian is an INSPIRATION. As a 71-year-old cancer survivor, he is currently preparing to run 7 marathons, in 7 days, in 7 states of Australia for the Braveheart’s Foundation.
Brian loves to ‘hug the hard yards’ and is the epitome of hard work and discipline. Each week he puts in anywhere from 70-100km of running, plus multiple strength, swimming, and recovery sessions.
Brian believes we should all be striving to be the best we can be and help others because we never know when will be our last day. If you think you’re too old to run or to exercise in general and you’ve let your health and fitness slip, then Brian is here to fire you up and to get you back on track
If you'd like to donate to the Bravehearts Foundation and support Brian in his amazing mission, please do so here.

In today's episode, I hosted Jord Chen on the podcast for the second time. Jord is a great friend of mine who lives on the Gold Coast. He’s an entrepreneur and ultra-runner, who is one of the most disciplined and consistent people I’ve ever met.
This wasn’t a planned podcast, but after living with Jord for a few days and seeing his habits and good practices, I thought it would be good to jump on for a quick chat about that because I believe many of us can get better at doing the basics well, like quality nutrition, daily movement, and sleep.

To learn more about Jord and his running, listen to episode 5, where we deep-dived into what he loves about running, why he does it, what running has taught him, and some of the big things he’s achieved like 33 marathons in 33 days.

One thing we forgot to mention in this conversation is there are no Ubers in Airlie! You’ll understand why I mention this because this is why we had to hitchhike with Ken to get to our Hamilton Island Half Marathon.

It’s worth noting that as an entrepreneur Jord has a bit more flexibility with his day than perhaps what you may have if you work a 9-5. However, regardless of what you do for work, I believe can all work smarter, move more, eat better, and be healthier overall, and I saw firsthand Jord’s work ethic, he really just does the work. He takes accountability and gets shit done.
Self-improvement is an ongoing endeavor that requires consistent effort throughout our lives. By striving to become better, we fulfill a personal responsibility to ourselves and to our loved ones. The journey of self-growth never ends and requires a continual commitment to progress.

In today's episode, I caught up with Ursula Adams, an amazing ultra-runner, and my housemate on the Gold Coast of Australia. Well technically we live in Tweed Heads, but we spend the majority of our time running on the Gold Coast esplanade or on the trails!
One of the things I greatly admire about Ursh is despite deep adversity with a history of domestic violence, she always sees the best in people and treats them with kindness. Through her work as a social worker and passion for running, hosting a female run club called ‘Fearless Femmes’, she is driven to help others, however she can.
Her journey from not running at all just a few years ago, through to recently running her first 100-mile ultra marathon at Mt Kosioscko, is one that will you will find inspiring and encouraging. Ursh also shares some exciting news about a HUGE race that she has been accepted into later this year... listen to the episode to find out more!
I hope you enjoy our conversation and through hearing her story, you think she’s inspired me to take on something new and to level up in my own life.
