Is It Just Me The Hidden Mental Health Challenges of Entrepreneurship.m4a

"Is It Just Me?" - The Hidden Mental Health Challenges of Entrepreneurship

Today's topic is close to my heart and probably closer to your daily life than you might realize: the mental health rollercoaster of entrepreneurship.

You know those days when you're on top of the world one minute, thinking "This is why I do this!" and then suddenly you're ready to burn it all down? Yeah, we're going to talk about that.

In this episode, I talk about:

- The common ups and downs of being an entrepreneur (spoiler: business ownership is not always Instagram-worthy)

- The hidden factors that make our mental health journey unique (hint: it's not just about stress management)

- Why feeling like you "can't cope like you used to" doesn't mean you're failing

Remember, if you've ever felt like you're the only one struggling, or wondered if there's something "wrong" with you for finding this entrepreneur gig tough sometimes, this episode is here to remind you: other business owners feel this way, and there's nothing wrong with you.

If you've ever had a day where you felt like a boss one minutes and a disaster the next, this episode is for you.

Shut Off Your Brain An Entrepreneur's Guide to Actually Sleeping.m4a

"Shut Off Your Brain!" - An Entrepreneur's Guide to Actually Sleeping

If you're a night owls or a sleepless entrepreneur, today's episode is for you. I'm talking about something topic that's kept me up nights: how to actually get some sleep when your brain refuses to power down.

As business owners, our minds are our superpowers. But sometimes, that superpower goes into overdrive, leaving us staring at the ceiling at 2 AM, wondering, "Why can't I sleep even though I'm exhausted?!"

In this episode, I'm sharing:

My personal struggles with insomnia and what I did about it (spoiler alert: I've tried counting sheep, and it doesn't work)

Why telling yourself to "just relax" is about as effective as telling a cat to fetch

Practical, science-backed strategies that can helped you tame your restless mind

We'll explore some game-changing concepts like:

The body's relaxation response (and how to hack it)

Why consistency is key (even on weekends - I know, I'm sorry!)

Sleep hygiene tips that actually work (and don't require you to become a completely different person)

We can't actually "shut off" our brains (they're kind of essential for the whole being alive thing), but we can learn to work with them instead of against them.

So if you've ever found yourself doom-scrolling at midnight or solving business problems in your dreams, this episode is for you.

I Can't Do This Anymore Navigating Entrepreneur Burnout.m4a

"I Can't Do This Anymore" - Navigating Entrepreneur Burnout

In today's episode, I'm getting real about something we all face but rarely talk about: those moments when we feel like we just can't handle being an entrepreneur anymore.

You know those days - when a contractor quits unexpectedly, you're working around the clock, your kid gets sick right before an important meeting, or a big client jumps ship. I've been there, and as you know, it's rough.

In this episode, I'm opening up about:

My personal experiences with entrepreneurial burnout (yes, I have those "I want to burn it all down" moments!)

Why it's totally normal to feel overwhelmed sometimes (hint: it's not just you)

Practical strategies you can use to get through those "I can't do this anymore" phases

I'll dive into some eye-opening questions we can ask ourselves when we're at our wit's end.

Plus, I'll share some gentle reminders.

Remember, acknowledging that you're struggling isn't a sign of weakness - it's the first step to reclaiming your power as a business owner.

If you've ever felt like you're on an emotional rollercoaster (and let's face it, who hasn't?), this episode is for you.

Financial Abuse and Entrepreneurship Breaking the Silence.m4a

Financial Abuse and Entrepreneurship: Breaking the Silence

Today I'm talking about a topic that's personal to me and probably affects more of us than we realize: financial abuse and its impact on entrepreneurship.

I've walked this path myself. I co-signed a loan I didn't want to, worked throughout a challenging pregnancy while my then-husband refused to get a job, and constantly was blamed for "spending all our money." Does any of this sound familiar?

In this episode, I'm shedding light on financial abuse. What it looks like, how it affects our mindset, and most importantly, how you can heal and flourish as a business owner after experiencing financial abuse.

I'll be talking about:

The subtle ways financial abuse seeps into relationships (hint: it's not always obvious!)

How being a survivor influences us as entrepreneurs (think trust issues and scarcity mindset)

Honest talk about rebuilding our financial confidence and overcoming self-doubt

Remember, you're not the only one who has been through this. Whether you're healing from financial abuse or supporting someone who is, I hope this episode helps you feel empowered. I believe we can transform our experiences into wisdom and our challenges into strengths.

Stressed Over Cash Flow? How to stop worrying about money as an entrepreneur.

Cash flow is a constant concern for business owners. According to Quickbooks, 60% of small business owners say that cash flow has been a problem for their business.

Even when you’re making a lot of sales, your business can still be strapped for cash because, as you know from experience, the money from these sales don’t always end up in your bank account in time to pay the monthly bills.

Entrepreneurs, especially in start-ups and micro-businesses, who worry about limited cash flow–in other words, scarcity–can find themselves in a fight/flight response.

So what can you do about it? Listen in to find out.

Thrive as an Entrepreneur in a Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous World

Resilience is a crucial quality for entrepreneurs, but it’s often tested by the challenges we face. As business owners, we encounter a barrage of stressors, and our ability to bounce back can be strained.

One concept that sheds light on these conditions is VUCA—an acronym representing volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity.

Coined in 1987, VUCA initially referred to the conditions experienced by leaders. It has since become relevant to entrepreneurs.

The recent pandemic exemplified extreme VUCA—sudden shifts, changing data, unpredictable impact, and forces beyond our control.

Women entrepreneurs face VUCA daily—adversity, decision-making, ever-changing conditions, and multitasking.

VUCA and other business stressors deplete cognitive and emotional resources. It’s hard to thrive under those conditions. It's hard to be resilient.

But it is possible to build your resilience muscle so the toll isn’t so high.

Loneliness At The Top 8 Tips To Help You Stop Feeling Isolated As An Entrepreneur.m4a

Even during the day, you mostly work alone.

You have coffee dates or mastermind group meetings, but most of them are virtual and when you click “leave meeting,” you’re alone in your office again.

You’ve had a real win in your biz, hard-won and long-fought-for. You tell your beloved and they say, “That’s nice dear,” when what you want is for someone to recognize how much this means and pop the metaphorical bottle of champagne for you.

Or you’re feeling the stresses of being the one who wears all the hats and carries all the responsibility, but no-one gets what you’re going through.

Loneliness is real for business owners. Listen in for how it affects you and what you can do about it.

How can you recover from a scarcity mindset?

How can you recover from a scarcity mindset?

A  scarcity mindset is often described as a belief there is simply not  enough to go around, or a focus on lack, or living from a limited  source.

Much scarcity mindset advice treats the mindset and related  behaviours as if they are choices. In many cases we literally *can’t see  them* because of the effect of scarcity–either real or perceived–on the  nervous system.

Scarcity in this case means scarcity of any resource, including the  perception that there isn’t enough (of anything) as well as the lived  experience of lack (of anything: time, food, money, connection etc.)

The brain reacts to both.

Trauma-Informed: the truth about this popular phrase and how to protect yourself as a consumer

Trauma-Informed: the truth about this popular phrase and how to protect yourself as a consumer

I have long been concerned about the proliferation of the term “trauma-informed” and its variants in the online business space. My belief is that if you use the word trauma in your marketing, it will attract folks who have experienced trauma to you. If your training is inadequate, harm may occur to you, your client and your business.

In this episode, you'll learn about the history of trauma-informed care and how you can protect yourself as someone who may want to work with a trauma-informed service provider (VA, marketing consultant, copywriter) or who is looking for a "trauma-informed" certification.

Entrepreneurship and mental health are intimately connected.  Owning and running a business can be like riding an emotional rollercoaster.  As humans, the state of our mental health—our emotional, psychological and social well-being—affects our ability to cope with everyday interactions and activities.  This is no less the case for entrepreneurs.
