PMDD: One Cause, One Cure? Why That Myth Hurts & What Actually Drives Your Symptoms

If you’ve been told PMDD is “just brain sensitivity to normal hormone levels,” this episode is for you. I question the oversimplified narrative that there’s one cause or one cure for PMDD—and unpack why many of us have sky-high hormones, unique triggers, and different sensitivities (yes, estrogen sensitivity is real, not just progesterone). Using parallels from cancer treatment and mental health, I explore how complex conditions rarely have a single explanation or a one-size-fits-all solution.

We get into:

  • PMDD causes: hormone sensitivity vs. hormone levels—can both be true?
  • Estrogen sensitivity (my experience) vs. progesterone sensitivity (TikTok’s claim)

Her Shift: Luxury Self-Care at Home: How I Designed a Nervous-System–Safe Space for PMDD, Perimenopause, and Cyclical Living

Ever wished your home felt like a luxury hotel—calm, sensory-soothing, and built to support your mental health? In this Her Shift Podcast episode, I share how I turned my home into a nervous-system safe sanctuary inspired by The Langham in Hong Kong: thoughtful scents, soft textures, high-quality washing detergent and cleaning products, candles, clutter-free zones, and intentional details that make everyday life feel supportive—not stressful.

We go deep on how environment design can be a powerful act of self-care for women navigating PMDD, perimenopause/menopause symptoms, and cyclical living. I walk you through how I adapt my space to each phase of my cycle lighting, fabrics, fragrance, routines and why sensory choices (smell, touch, sound) can regulate the nervous system, reduce overwhelm, and boost mood and sleep. I also share the menopausal symptoms I’ve been managing (night sweats, brain fog, anxiety spikes) and the practical home tweaks that help cooling bedding, gentle laundry care, evening wind-down rituals, and visual simplicity to calm the mind.
