Chelsea Haines is a Gut Health and Intuition coach who "helps women finally heal their gut health so they can live their happiest and most abundant lives." On today's episode of Gut Check Radio, and our final installment of our ten-part series on how to heal your thyroid, Chelsea joins me to talk about what we all must do in order to learn how to heal ourselves. In her practice, Chelsea helps patients on a daily basis who are not only struggling with physical symptoms, but also mental, emotional, and spiritual roadblocks that stand between them and true healing. With the right perspective though, and a proper understanding of what it takes to "get out of the mud" as Chelsea likes to say, we can all start to learn how healing is truly possible - maybe just not quite the way you once thought it would be.

In today’s world, and especially in the world of health and wellness, discipline is a virtue that is often revered higher than any other. Unlike so many other coaches, doctors, or fitness influencers though, today I’m going to share how discipline, when gone unchecked, can turn into a terrible thing for you, your lifestyle, and your health. On today’s episode, we look back on a conversation I got to have with Sam Wetherell, a very successful DC, good friend of mine, and the most disciplined man I know. Sam shares with us how his extreme discipline, while praised by others, actually led him to struggle in his fitness, his career, and his relationship, and what he did to help drastically change the way he looked at working hard and making sacrifices on a regular basis.

Over the hundreds and thousands of years that humans have been studying the science of healing, is it really likely that we could ever come across any new breakthrough techniques or treatments these days? On today’s show, my guest, Brea Katrin, is here to share about the fascinating world of self-directed neuroplasticity, how this practice has helped rid her and many of her clients from all kinds of chronic illnesses, and how she believes the power to do so has actually been with us as long as humans have existed. Make sure to listen in to hear the wild story of how a house filled with mold led Brea across the country and into the desert, where eventually an encounter with God and a new insight on permanent healing would turn her life around completely.

I know what you all are thinking: “Six episodes into this series and he hasn’t even once talked about hormone replacement - does this guy even know what he’s talking about?” My short answer to that question: maybe. For a more nuanced take on hormone replacement, make sure to give today’s episode a listen, because I’ve got three reasons why I think hormone replacement likely is not the right move for you when looking to heal your thyroid. It may not be the most popular take, but in this episode I drop some knowledge on all of us about how our vitamins and supplements might not actually be doing anything in the first place, the gut bugs that many of us may be overlooking, and the mysterious subject of autoimmunity that we all might want to take a second look into.

Doesn’t it sometimes feel so good right after you’ve just finished a hard workout? What about one, two, maybe three hours later though - are you usually still feeling good? Or maybe you’ve start to hit a wall as your energy levels start plummeting, even though you’re only half way through your day - sound familiar? As familar as this scenario might seem, the way we feel after a workout is actually a very important window on if we’re choosing the right style, length, and intensity when it comes to our regular exercise. And as you might have guessed, doing too much or too little in the wrong direction here can really have some serious affects on your thyroid health! In today’s episode, we talk all about exercise, and why we ought to start making our work OUTs into work INs, and just how we can all go about doing so.

For those of you who are like me, I KNOW you have been waiting for this part of our thyroid series - today we are talking all about NUTRITION and what kinds of foods we should be eating on a daily basis to help heal and support our thyroids. In today’s episode, I share why I think INCLUDING certain foods in our diet is way more beneficial than AVOIDING others. We talk about some of the sure signs that you might be eating either too few or too many calories each day, and why almost all of us have a bad habit of eating too little protein each day as well. Lastly comes my favorite part, which is when I get to share with you all some of the most important micronutrients that we should all be incorporating into our meals and routines that can really make a big impact on the health of our thyroids and bodies as a whole.

“Cancer” may be the scariest word that a person hears their entire life. For Jacqueline Genova, a certified holistic nutritionist, wellness writer, and fellow podcaster, hearing her mom receive this diagnosis years ago certainly made an impact that would change her life forever. Thankfully for us all, Jacqueline’s story isn’t one that ends with fear and worry, but with resolve and passion, as she took the struggles her mother faced and the questions she had about the treatments that were endured and turned them into a beautiful passion - to study, practice, and share breakthrough integrative cancer treatments with patients just like Jac’s mom, who likely find themselves scared with nowhere to turn after a seemingly hopeless diagnosis.
Today, Jacqueline has channeled these passions into the creation of her wildly successful brand, WellnStrong, which helps educate and empower others to live healthy lives through holistic and integrative practices. Many of these practices may seem simple, and quite frankly, too good to be true - but the track record of near-miraculous healing that Jacqueline has witnessed throughout her journey is a testament to the power of nutrition, faith, and the sheer will and resiliency of the human body.

Dealing with stress is a guaranteed part of life. As each of us navigate the human experience, we encounter events that cause us to feel stress multiple times a day, seven days a week. Although we often hear of ways for us to reduce stress from day-to-day, I’m here to ask: Is that really the right way to go about life? In today’s episode, we talk about why reducing your stress levels may not be the answer to a healthier thyroid (and a healthier life). Instead, we focus on several ways that each of us can increase our ability to respond to stress in a healthy way. I dive into some of my favorite examples of simple activities we can all do to improve our health both spiritually and physically, and why I think these activities should be seen as such an important part of our daily routines.

When it comes to sleeping well and keeping your circadian rhythm happy, timing is perhaps the single greatest factor we need to consider. On today’s episode of Gut Check Radio, we talk about how getting your sleep right can help you take that next step towards healing your thyroid, and how getting your timing right can help you do just that. I share four simple but powerful tips that you can start using TONIGHT that can help you start seeing improvements in your sleep, and ultimately in your hormonal regulation. We talk about getting enough sun in the morning, darkness in the evening, sleeping at the right temperatures, and keeping all of these things consistent. Also, just as importantly, I make sure to touch on what we should and should not be doing in our beds, so make sure to stay tuned for that.

In this first installment, we start off by answering the obvious question: Why is my Thyroid health so important in the first place? I walk you through which tests we should each be running and what they can actually tell us about the way our bodies are working, as well as which tests we might want to stay away from. On today’s episode of Gut Check Radio, we sit down and face one of the only fears that nearly all of us have in common: trying new things. Specifically, we talk about trying new foods that we’ve never bought, cooked, ordered, or tasted before, and why doing so can be a really good idea when trying to fortify your gut health. I breakdown some of the biggest reasons that I think we are all so resistant to eating in a way that can bring so many benefits, including the important elements of taste, convenience, and cost of our nutritional habits. Lastly, I address those of you listeners who often find their own bodies reacting poorly almost everytime a new food is introduced, and I leave everyone with a simple but effective (and maybe even fun?) call-to-action that can make a big difference in your gut health.

While there’s too much to say about these pervasive conditions in just one short podcast episode, we take a crack at defining anxiety and insomnia in terms of how we as humans experience it. (and talk about why the timing actually varies across regions). I know it can be frustrating when every year you take your Vitamin C and your Zinc, and yet almost every year you still seem to come down with a cold. Why is that? Today I talk about how most of us are actually ignoring one of the biggest factors at play when it comes to keeping ourselves immune - the gut. I share my tactics for supporting our gut health during this season, which most of us can easily adopt and improve upon. In addition, I explore some fascinating studies that have been conducted recently on the various supplements that might actually help reduce cold symptoms, as well as some calls to action that you can take today to help better prepare you for the winter months to come.

Lastly, we talk about the use of antibiotics while pregnant, as well as for your child after they’re born, and when and why you should expose your child to solid foods at the proper time.
