In 2018, I was sleeping in my car, showering at the gym, working at Starbucks at 4am, and trying to build an online fitness business from rock bottom.
No apartment. No backup plan. Just vision, discipline, and raw belief.
Now, I coach men worldwide and run the Fit Mind Fit Bod Academy—but it didn’t start with success. It started with pain, sacrifice, and a commitment to a future I couldn’t see yet.
💥 In this episode, I share:
The nights I spent in my Nissan Sentra
The early-morning rituals that kept my dream alive
How visualizing my future manifested real results
The first apartment that changed everything
Why I built this business without investors or a safety net
And the biggest truth: your story isn’t over.
🧠 Perspectives shifts include:
“In 2018, I was homeless—now I coach men worldwide.”
“This isn’t motivation. This is survival turned into purpose.”
“If you’ve ever doubted your future—listen to this.”

✅ Owns his sh*t—no excuses, no victim mindset
✅ Controls his emotions instead of letting them control him
✅ Knows how to communicate, lead, and ask for help when needed
And today? I’m breaking down 7 signs of real masculine maturity—AND how I had to go through the fire to learn these myself.

Listen… big muscles don’t mean sh*t if you can’t actually move.
I learned this lesson the hard way.

Alright fellas, let’s be real—balance feels like a myth when you’re in your 30s and 40s.
You’re grinding at work, handling responsibilities, maybe raising a family… and somewhere in there, you’re supposed to take care of your health, relationships, and mental well-being?
Most men either:
❌ Burn out trying to do it all OR
❌ Let one area slip and feel like they’re failing
So, why is balance so damn hard?
And more importantly, how do we fix it?
That’s exactly what we’re diving into today:
✅ Why men struggle to find balance in this phase of life
✅ The biggest mistake we make when trying to ‘fix’ it
✅ A new approach to balance that actually works
Let’s get into it. 🔥
Let’s get real—consistency isn’t about feeling motivated. It’s about showing up no matter what.Do you ever wake up and not feel like doing the work? The gym, the journaling, the hard conversations, the deep inner work? We’ve all been there. But here’s the truth…👉 Emotional fitness is the key.👉 How you FEEL doesn’t determine what you DO.👉 The only way through is through. Most men numb, avoid, or push their emotions down, thinking it’ll make them stronger. But real strength? That’s built when you face it, feel it, and still get sh*t done.In today’s episode, we’re breaking down:✅ Why emotional fitness is the secret weapon for consistency✅ The difference between numbing and regulating your emotions✅ The long-game mindset that separates men who stay stuck from those who level upLet’s get into it. 🔥1. CONSISTENCY IS BUILT IN THE MOMENTS YOU DON’T FEEL LIKE ITLet me keep it real—there’s plenty of days I don’t feel like showing up.Just last week, I woke up feeling drained. Tired from running the pet biz, coaching, managing life’s chaos… everything in me wanted to say, ‘F* it, I’ll take today off.’**But here’s what I know: Skipping today makes tomorrow even harder.Emotional fitness is about knowing that your feelings don’t dictate your actions.🔥 Real talk: The most successful, disciplined men aren’t the ones who always feel motivated. They’re the ones who’ve trained themselves to show up even when they don’t want to.👉 That’s emotional fitness.2. STOP NUMBING & START FEELING: THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AVOIDANCE & REGULATIONMost men have one default move when emotions hit: Avoid, distract, or numb.I used to do this too—scrolling, eating junk, zoning out, doing anything but sitting with what I was actually feeling. But here’s the problem: What you resist, persists. The emotions don’t disappear—they just show up later in worse ways.Instead of numbing, you have to feel THROUGH it.💡 EXAMPLE:There was a time when I kept ignoring my stress. I pushed through, forced myself to ‘man up,’ and kept grinding.Until one day, it all hit at once. Anxiety, burnout, frustration—I had no control over it because I never dealt with it when it came up.That’s when I learned that emotional regulation is everything.👉 Find your emotional regulation tools. Some men need movement—go hit the gym. Some need stillness—breathe, meditate, journal. Some need connection—talk to a brother who gets it.It’s not about avoiding emotions—it’s about learning how to process them in a way that keeps you moving forward.3. COMMIT TO THE LONG GAME: EMOTIONAL FITNESS IS A LIFELONG PRACTICEJust like physical fitness, emotional fitness is built over time. You don’t hit the gym once and expect to be strong forever—you train consistently. Same with emotional work. This isn’t about fixing yourself—it’s about becoming the kind of man who can handle anything life throws at him.🔥 Personal Shift:When I first started this journey, I thought discipline meant ignoring how I felt. Now I realize? It’s about mastering how I respond to my emotions. The difference between a man who stays stuck and a man who evolves is whether or not he commits to the long game.👉 The work never stops. But neither do the rewards. So here’s the takeaway:Stop waiting to ‘feel like it.’ Show up regardless.Don’t numb—process. Find your emotional regulation tools.Commit to the long game. Emotional fitness is a lifelong practice. If this episode hit home, screenshot it, share it on your story, and tag me:https://www.instagram.com/realtalkwithmario/And if you’re ready to build a fit mind & fit body with men who get it—DM me ‘EMOTIONAL FITNESS’ and let’s get you locked in.💪 Until next time—feel through it, stay consistent, and keep building. 1. THE JOURNEY TO COMPETITION (6 WEEKS OUT)
• Training under Coach Tom DeGuli: Built a structured program dialing inlandmine coiling deadlifts, heavy cleans, presses, and explosive accessory work.
• Confidence was HIGH. I knew I had a shot at top 3—but I wanted the title.
• Nomadic lifestyle challenges: Training while constantly moving made prep chaotic—no stable environment, no routine.
2. THE FINAL 3 WEEKS: WHEN SH*T GOT HARD
• Frequent transitions took a toll—energy felt scattered, but I kept pushing.
• Girlfriend got super sick, and I had to take overall pet biz responsibilities while keeping my training on point.
• Then I got sick. HARD.
◦ The week of the comp, I was out—sleeping, eating soup, barely moving.
◦ But I made ano-excuse commitment: I WAS SHOWING UP.
3. COMPETITION DAY: WHERE IT GOT REAL
• Arrived at Weck Method at 9 AM—12-hour day ahead!
• First, completedLandmine University Level 1 Coaching Certification 🏆—a major milestone that deepened my technical understanding.
• Then, competition time. Nerves hit. Hard.
• Curveball: We had to pre-set all our attempt weights without knowing others' lifts.
• Mistake #1: Misjudged my clean and press attempt.
• Mistake #2: Went too heavy, failed3 snatches, 2 clean & press attempts.
• Lesson: I let adrenaline take over instead of breathing and executing.
• But—still landed in Top 3! 🥉
4. BIGGEST LESSONS + WHAT’S NEXT
• Competing is a different beast—mentally & physically.
• I now have FIRE under my ass for next year’s Landmine Games.
• Next goal: More comps. Possibly weightlifting comps—still deciding.
