Today, I speak with Viola Sutanto, the founder of Maika Goods. Viola is a mother, entrepreneur and food lover who creates thoughtfully designed, sustainably made bags and accessories.
Her ethos is to spread every day joy through her brand.
She is also an author. When her daughter was diagnosed with aplastic anemia she noticed how positive and happy she was in her daily activities at the hospital.
Viola noticed this resilience and joy and started to write down one happy thought a day. These writings then turned into a book called, Eat Cake for breakfast and 99 other small acts of happiness with proceeds going back to the hospital.
In our chat, she speaks about her upbringing in Singapore, her moving to the USA, starting her bag business (her stuff is beautiful!) and her experience of creating joy in her business.
She tells us about her entrepreneurial family background and what her favourite Omasake restaurant in San Francisco is and why she loves Julia Child.
