Connecting the Dots
S3E13 A Deep Dive into Mother-Daughter Relationships with Gail Carney
Mother daughter relationships are not always easy. Moms have advice and knowledge that they want to pass down to their daughters and experiences that they want to protect their daughters from. Daughters may feel like they need to follow in their mother’s footsteps, or they may be craving their independence. Whatever the scenario, mother daughter relationships can be complex and multifaceted.

My own mom and I have been through many different stages of our relationship. I was obsessed with my mom as a young child, and then as I got older, I craved independence. My desire to grow up too fast put a strain on my relationship with my mom during some of my middle school and high school years. In college, we were able to use the separation to find ourselves and ultimately come back together closer than ever. Since I graduated college, my mom and I have become best friends. We talk almost every day, value each other’s opinions, and enjoy doing creative projects together.

Because our relationship has taken a lot of work to get to this place, we wanted to share what we’ve noticed that can put a strain on mother daughter relationships, talk about our relationship’s evolution, and offer some guidance to other mother daughter duos. I am so happy to have my mom, Gail Carney, back on the podcast for the third time!

What we chat about:

  • How my mom started making t-shirts and sweatshirts
  • Ways to be consistent and flexible with your morning routine
  • Why miscommunication or lack of communication can lead to issues in mother daughter relationships
  • How to balance wanting your kids to have a better life than you without putting too much pressure on them
  • The pressures that society puts on kids now to be “well-rounded”
  • How negative body image that mothers have can seriously impact their daughters
  • Why moms can’t instill their fears into their daughters
  • Ways to foster trust with your daughter
  • Why it’s important to know your kid’s friends
  • The definition of a healthy mother daughter relationship
  • We discuss whether or not your mom should be your best friend
  • How my mom and I have been able to foster such a good relationship

S3E12 Navigating Life's Major Moments with Less Stress & Fewer Toxins with Megan Riley
It’s not every day that you get to podcast with one of your best friends in your new podcast studio! In this episode, I chat with Megan Riley about non-toxic living, wedding planning, and trying to conceive. We cover a lot in this conversation - from our time in the classroom together when we were first learning about nontoxic living to supporting each other in our careers and personal lives. It was amazing to see how far we’ve come from the 22-year-old new teachers we were when we met!

I have always been inspired by Megan’s ability to go after what she wants and to commit to it 100%. Her determination, do-it-yourself attitude, and vulnerability have helped me grow as a person. I think you will leave this conversation a bit more inspired to go after what you want and to be more open with your people.

Megan Riley is a teacher, wedding planner, mother, and lover of nontoxic living. She has a passion for helping brides bring their wedding vision to life (and loves a color coded to-do list). At the end of the day, Megan loves nothing more than being a mother, and this has only strengthened her mission to continue to find non-toxic product swaps for her home, body, and child.

What we chat about:

  • How Megan and I met and became friends
  • Two of Megan’s favorite rituals
  • How Megan got into wedding planning
  • Megan’s biggest Do’s and Don’ts for wedding planning
  • Why having a wedding planner is so important for your peace of mind
  • Megan’s fertility journey
  • The difficult feelings and thoughts that can come up after having a miscarriage
  • Some of the preconception nutrition and lifestyle support that I gave Megan
  • Favorite non-toxic beauty and household products

Connecting the Dots
S3E11 Trust the Process: Ozone Therapy and Free Birth with Darrah Kempka, RN
Darrah Kempka, RN is someone that I have been inspired by for a long time. She shares her knowledge and experience so vulnerably, and she has a knack for fostering community. She is a trailblazer and brings so many unique therapies and modalities to the DFW area.

So it was no surprise that she opened my eyes (and probably many other people’s eyes) to the concept of free birth. Free birth is birthing without the assistance of a midwife or doctor. As I watched Darrah post about her wild pregnancy, the free birth she was preparing for, and clips from her free birth, I knew that I had to chat with her about the experience and learn more. And I have to say, I am even more inspired by her after this conversation than I was before :)

Darrah Kempka RN is the owner of Natural Infusion Partners LLC, a holistic IV suite in Grapevine Texas. After working in conventional medicine for 8 years, she began to integrate holistic healing, functional medicine, and ozone therapy into her life after her youngest son’s battle with eczema and allergies. She mentored under world renowned practitioners who focused on mold toxicity, chronic disease, and general wellness for 3 years before the pandemic of 2019. Since then, she joined a collective of natural healers and created a healing sanctuary of her own.  Now, you can find her there serving and teaching about body, mind, soul work + ozone therapy.

What we chat about:

  • Ozone therapy and how you could utilize ozone insufflations at home
  • How Darrah got into the “wellness world”
  • The training that Darrah received in ozone therapy and detoxification
  • Why Darrah decided to add cranial sacral therapy to her services
  • The importance of nervous system regulation to heal
  • What made Darrah decide she wanted her third pregnancy and birth experience to be different from her first two
  • What led Darrah to choose a wild pregnancy and free birth
  • How Darrah and Amanda started Village Prenatal
  • Key takeaways from Darrah’s free birth
  • What Darrah did to prepare for birth and set up her birthing space
  • Darrah’s number one tip for postpartum
  • What’s going on at Natural Infusion Partners

Connecting the Dots
S3E10 Letting Go of Fear to Move Forward & Heal
The hardest and most cathartic podcast episode that I have ever done. This is the most raw, unfiltered, and vulnerable that I have ever been - on social media and maybe just in general. But as I have been working through so much fear and grief, I’ve wished there were more people talking about it. I wish more people shared about how hard it is to watch people you love be sick and the fear that may be instilled while you support them. I wish people talked about the tools that they used to work through their grief, fear, anxiety, and trauma. And I wish more practitioners talked about how it can be really scary to receive a diagnosis and have tests run to get to the root cause. So, I am here to be that person in case anyone else was wishing for the same things.

What I chat about:

  • My theme and mantra for year 29
  • Grieving the loss of my best friend on the anniversary of her passing
  • How I felt after getting diagnosed with PCOS
  • The sign that we got from Trish on my friend’s bachelorette
  • The impact that being around a lot of women who experienced chronic illness has had on me
  • How I let fear run my life
  • What helped me get through my fears and move forward

Connecting the Dots
S3E8 Using Astrology to Navigate Transitions and Challenges with Kelly Kasle
Kelly Kasle has been an amazing teacher to me this year. She has helped me better understand astrology and my own birth chart, which in turn has led to me have a better understanding of myself. Kelly helps people navigate big life transitions and find their purpose using Astrology, Human Design and Meditation.

She discovered the power and wisdom of Astrology by using it to get through a huge life transition in September of 2020. Overnight, her whole life turned upside down with the unexpected passing of her father and COVID work mandates. Astrology helped her understand why this huge turning point happened and how to move through it with grace.

While doing readings for friends for fun, she saw how many people were dealing with similar situations and realized her skills and wisdom as an Astrologer were more needed at this time in history than her musical talent. Prior to COVID she was based in Los Angeles and had a thriving career as a professional bassoonist, music educator and event producer.

In addition to all that astrology offers, her counseling is supported by her wisdom on universal spiritual principles, holistic health, neuroscience, quantum physics and the habits of high achievers.
Find peace, happiness and fulfillment by being in tune with your soul. Your Natal Birth Chart (aka your Soul Blueprint) holds the keys and guidance to all of your questions. Connect, book a reading and find Kelly's latest courses and events at https://linktr.ee/kellykasle

What we chat about:
  • The habits that start Kelly’s day off strong
  • How Kelly found a huge interest in astrology in 2020
  • The impact that Kelly’s music career had on her ability to pick up astrology
  • The mindset that Kelly had to overcome the challenges she faced in 2020
  • What our astrological birth charts can show and tell us about ourselves
  • How you can use astrology and human design to be the best version of yourself

Connecting the Dots
S3E7 Disconnect to Reconnect with Carley DeMarco
I’ve known this week’s guest, Carley, since I was in middle school. We actually went to the same middle school and high school in Delaware, and even though we have ended up in completely different states after graduating, we've found similar missions in life. We both fell in love with the practice of yoga and became yoga teachers. We are both huge wellness advocates and creatives who are using different platforms to build community, highlight people we are inspired by, and share tips to be well. I left our conversation feeling inspired by her and with a sense of rejuvenation to continue to manifest what I want my life to look like. I hope you feel the same way after listening because Carley is a rockstar.

Carley is a writer, yoga teacher, former studio owner, and the founder of The Retreat: a monthly print wellness & spirituality newspaper helping you disconnect to reconnect. She holds in-person women's retreats all over the globe. You can connect with her on her website and Instagram listed below!

What we chat about:

  • The benefits of daily journaling
  • Carley’s journey that led her to opening a yoga studio
  • How yoga had a positive impact on Carley’s well-being in high school and as she got older
  • The manifestation technique that Carley used to help make her yoga studio and newspaper a reality

Connecting the Dots
S3E6 Vitalistic Chiropractic Care with Dr. Chris Cole
Vitalistic chiropractic care has been such a game changer for my nervous system. My guest this week, Dr. Chris Cole, has provided a space for me to discover the way that I hold stress and tension in my body. He has encouraged me to think about the reason behind the symptoms that I am feeling through a lens of curiosity (rather than judgment or fear). This has really helped me manage my anxieties and better understand myself. Because of the impact our sessions have had on my well-being and his unique practice, I knew I wanted to have him on the show!

Dr. Chris was born and raised in Dallas, Texas and completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Oklahoma, where he obtained his Bachelors in Science in Health and Exercise Sciences. He received his Doctorate of Chiropractic from Parker University in Dallas, Texas.

Dr. Chris approaches the human body, our “vessels”, as a beautifully, intricately, and intimately designed system where the NORM is to adapt, thrive, and experience 100% LIFE. He remains deeply humbled and awe-struck by the Innate wisdom ~the life-force~ of the human body, and is honored to serve the infinite potential that is deep within EACH individual waiting to be revealed.

His job as your Chiropractor is that of facilitation; to be one of your guides on your healing journey, to remind you of everything that’s right with-IN you, and to be a source of empowerment for you, your family, and the Dallas community. Dr. Chris is committed to serving people of ALL ages, in all walks of life, through the art of Chiropractic so that they may experience life through a more clear and connected lens.

Connecting the Dots
S3E5 Navigating PCOS, Endometriosis, and SIBO with Rachel Burkholz
This episode is so inspiring and informative. I had the privilege of having my friend, colleague, and former study buddy, Rachel, on the show to discuss her health journey and everything she learned by healing herself, through her education, and from clinical practice.

Rachel Burkholz is a functional nutritionist, a certified 200 RYT, and CNS candidate with a passion in women's health. Her path to becoming a functional nutritionist was paved with professional milestones and personal revelations. With a Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science and a Master's in Human Nutrition and Functional Medicine, her journey into the world of wellness was sparked by a personal health struggle. Frustrated with the lack of solutions, she delved into researching alternative approaches to wellness. This exploration led her to the fascinating world of functional nutrition.

She officially launched Rooted by Rachel in 2023, her virtual functional nutrition practice dedicated to helping women reclaim their health and feel good in their bodies. Through Rooted by Rachel, she provides personalized medical nutrition therapy, ongoing support, and guidance tailored to each client's unique needs.

Connecting the Dots
S3E4 Intuitive Eating and Ditching Diets with Lara Days
While I was a CNS candidate, my supervisors required me to read the Intuitive Eating book to help me better understand my relationship with food and to introduce the concept that nutritionists do not just put people on diets. I enjoyed learning about the ten principles of Intuitive Eating, and I have used many of them when working with my clients. I have also used the Intuitive Eating workbook with clients to help them better understand their relationships with food. It is no coincidence that soon after embracing the principles of intuitive eating, I became friends with a colleague of mine, Lara, who is an Intuitive Eating counselor.

Lara Days is a Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor, yoga instructor, and Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach who is on a mission to dismantle the diet industry and empower people to live their happiest, healthiest, most confident lives! Lara focuses on helping you improve your mindset, unlearn your past conditioning, and trust your body so that you can find food freedom, ditch diet culture, and step into your power! The work we do won't just change your relationship with your body — it will change the way you show up in every aspect of your life.

Connecting the Dots
S3E2 How to be a Good Roommate - from five girls who shared one room
I told you that we were making this season of Connecting the Dots more personal, and there is nothing that matters more to me than my friends and family. I am SO excited to have four of my closest friends on this episode to talk about our experience living together in ONE room in our sorority house during our junior year of college. We had the best time together, which is hard for most people to believe - five girls in close quarters for two full semesters. We wanted to share how we were able to make it work, give advice for people looking for roommates or finding it hard to live with other people, and reminisce on some of our favorite memories from that year.

Emma: Emma Santos is a seasoned healthcare communications professional specializing in digital strategy development for clients across the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, health services, and consumer products industries. Throughout her comprehensive experience managing corporate social media channels and executing digital media campaigns, Emma has supported companies of all sizes navigate their commercial life cycle, including work in government relations and public affairs, drug pricing, Medicare, and supply chain transparency. Her client portfolios have represented a variety of therapeutic areas, including neurology, oncology, and rare disease.
Emma earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations from the University of Maryland.
Emma is a certified ACE Group Fitness Instructor and coach at BASH Boxing.

Carolina: My name is Carolina Parra, I currently live in Washington DC. By day, I'm immersed in the legal world as a project coordinator at a prominent firm, but on weekends, I switch gears to bartending, where I mix drinks and make cocktails! Originally from Bogotá, Colombia, I pursued my passion for government and politics at the University of Maryland. When I'm not working, you'll find me going for a run or cheering on my favorite basketball team. Whether it's discussing legal matters, shaking up cocktails, or shooting hoops, I'm always up for a good conversation and making new connections.

Connecting the Dots
Bonus Ep. How to Meditate and Unplug with Suze Yalof Schwartz
We are sure you’ve heard that meditation and other mindfulness activities are good for you. However, it can be difficult to know how to meditate or find the time to add this ritual into your daily routine. Because of the many misconceptions around mindfulness, we wanted to talk to an expert in making meditation convenient, accessible, and effective. In this episode, we chat with Suze Yalof Schwartz, the Founder and CEO of the Unplug Meditation App and the world's first drop-in secular meditation studio. She is also the author of Unplug: A Simple Guide To Meditation for Busy Skeptics and Modern Soul Seekers.

In 2012, Suze learned a three-minute meditation that changed her life forever. Prior to this, she was a fashion editor and "makeover guru" working at Vogue, Elle, Marie Claire and Glamour Magazine with regular appearances on GMA, The Today Show, CBS Early Show, and more. Once she discovered meditation, she was determined to keep doing it but could not find a place to easily learn and practice. After taking hundreds of hours of classes, reading every book possible, and listening to podcasts and lectures from the world's most famous meditation teachers, Suze realized that meditation needed a makeover and she was the one to do it. Suze's mission is to make meditation simple, accessible, powerful and interesting enough so that everyone will want to practice it and experience the benefits for themselves.

What’s discussed in this episode:
