Ep. 10: Travis Mash

“Make sure at the very beginning, especially the first two years, that the main focus is development. It is the movement. Yes, get them strong, but if you mess up their snatch, clean, or jerk in those first two years, you've got a major problem on your hands .”

We got the opportunity to sit down and chat with Coach Travis Mash to talk weightlifting. Not all of us can drive across the country with $200 to get into the sport, but that is exactly what Travis did, and he's now created a legacy that he isn't quite finished designing.

In this episode, we chat about:

  • How Travis entered the weightlifting world
  • Developing and refining the Mash method
  • Athlete monitoring and profiling across age groups
  • What the US is missing versus other countries
  • How to get youth athletes into the sport and stay in the sport

Ep: 08: Bing, Bang, Boom, Meet Week Co.

“You have to build the skill of competing. It isn't the same as training in the gym.”

Mandi is back from the dead, and the crew is united again. Alex tries to keep us on topic, but as usual, we go down a few rabbit holes - including VBT and Whoop Bands. We chat a lot about programming and progressions and how today's lifters are getting too distracted by the idea of "novelty" in their training.

In this episode, we chat about:

  • How much bourbon Mandi drank at the Bourbon Women SIPosium
  • Recent PR’s and injuries
  • The official launch of Meet Week Co. and what that means
  • Meet Week Co. and website coming really soon

They dive into a handful of other things including the official launch of Meet Week Co. and what it actually is. • Alex and Abida's cooking adventures.

"If you're trying to develop a youth weightlifter, or even an adult weightlifter, they have to learn how to move in space before they can fully take advantage of what they could do with a bar in their hand."

This may be the 2nd episode, but it is the first one that we’re starting to dig into some of the questions we got in the Discord. We're learning as we go, kids.

In this episode, Kyle, Mandi, & Alex are talking about everything from youth weightlifting to how late is too late to start lifting as well as what you need in order to learn and stay in weightlifting. Steak and Lasha are also brought up.
