Good Morning Hospitality with Wil Slickers Live with Scott Stanfield on 'It's My Friday!'

This is a replay of the LIVE show titled, 'It's My Friday!' with Scott Stanfield streaming on Linkedin & Facebook @ScottRStanfield

Wil & Scott discuss what it was like for Wil to be called up to serve in the Reserves during Covid, what hospitality looks like moving forward and his podcast Slick Talk: The Hospitality Podcast. Scott was a guest on Wil's podcast for 3 episodes on April 3, 10 & 17, 2019. Click here it listen.

Wil Slickers on How the Good Morning Hospitality LIVE show came about: GoodMorningHospitality.com

Wil Slickers, host of Slick Talk: The Hospitality Podcast, has joined forces with modern noise monitoring company NoiseAware and membership-based zero commission hotel booking platform Bidroom to launch a new hospitality morning show, Good Morning Hospitality, which will go out live every Monday morning in the United States.

At a time when many businesses have closed down or risen during the last seven months with Covid-19, Slickers, the host of Slick Talk: The Hospitality Podcast, is determined to create with new “game changers” in the hospitality space by joining forces with NoiseAware and Bidroom to create a new hospitality morning show which will go live every Monday morning.

WHAT DO WE DO?

Unlike the regular Slick Talk: The Hospitality Podcast program, in which industry expert and creator of the inaugural Destinationaire Award, Wil Slickers, interviews some of the biggest names in the vacation rental, hotel and restaurant industries, Slickers and his new co-hosts, Michael Goldin, director of business development at NoiseAware, and Michael Ros, CEO of Bidroom, formed Good Morning Hospitality to be a new way for hospitality professionals in all segments to engage, stay informed, and even be featured on the show as they go live on all platforms at the start of each working week.

Slickers said: “I love running Slick Talk: The Hospitality Podcast and nothing will stop that. It’s become very popular and I am publishing more episodes than ever to keep up with the demand.

“After I did an episode with Michael Goldin, he and I both recognized we had a lot more fun than expected and started thinking of ways we could do something like that more often. Once the name came to life, we realized we were really on to something cool and exciting!

“We wanted to get a third co-host on the show who wasn’t in short-term rentals and could bring a cool dynamic to the show,” he added.

Goldin said: “Wil and I had a lot of fun together and “talking shop” on his podcast and I was definitely excited to find ways to keep doing this! I am a big fan of Monday mornings, so the concept for Good Morning Hospitality was even more exciting as I knew it would be something new and exciting for both short-term rentals and hotels.”

Ros from Bidroom recently recorded a podcast episode with Slickers and will bring something new to the table when it comes to hotels and how people book them.

The Restaurant General Manager Podcast
Find Your Inner Zen with Emily Fitz Randolph | 010

Hugh Jackman said, “Nothing has ever opened my eyes like Transcendental Meditation has. It makes me calm and happy and it gives me peace and quiet in what's a pretty chaotic life.”

I tend to follow 2 things. One is the evidence and the other is how something makes me feel. There are more than 380 peer-reviewed research studies on The Transcendental Meditation technique being published in over 160 scientific journals. These studies were conducted at many US and international universities and research centers, including Harvard, Stanford, Yale, and UCLA Medical Schools. Some of the findings are a 48% reduction in death, heart attack, and stroke. Plus, the Transcendental Meditation technique has been proven to lower blood pressure, anxiety and increase longevity. Since I have another podcast titled the Modern Longevitarian I am cross pollinating with this episode while still maintaining a focus on restaurant managers and chefs becoming better people and leaders. Considering what's happening in our world on this day  with a global pandemic, reopening our entire planet and now peaceful protests and riots. Who does not need a way to lower stress and anxiety? We all do. Since December I have been utilizing this style of meditation and there is good reason why I have developed a healthy-daily addiction.

Emily Fitz Randolph

Emily is a certified Teacher of Transcendental Meditation and has been practicing the TM technique for over 25 years. Emily’s mission is to teach as many people as possible this simple, effortless, profound technique. We say that “anyone who can think can meditate”. Whether you think of yourself as someone who can’t possibly quiet your mind or whether you’re a meditation expert with regular, various practices, you'll be able to quickly master this simple technique and experience its many benefits. Emily teaches the TM technique in a clear, enjoyable, and practical way, ensuring that you will be able to practice on your own for the rest of your life and gain all the benefits it provides — including clearer, more creative thinking, resilience to stress, and a deeper connection to yourself and with those around you.

The Restaurant General Manager Podcast
How important is the GM? with Ryan Achterhoff | 009

This episode really highlights the importance of the GM and retaining the General Manager over a longer timeframe. In January, before the COVID - 19 days were upon us. I had the pleasure of speaking with Ryan Achterhoff, the Chief Administrative Officer of Pizza Ranch, Inc.  What I found is that he has more data to prove this point, than most.  Ryan can show the direct correlation between profitability and the length of service by the General Manager. This is so encouraging and so important!

Due to the dawn of celebrity chefs  - restaurants have changed and are now more ever about the food. On the customer side, the change is… It’s also about being a foodie and Instagram-able dishes, but I have to ask a very important question, “How can a general manager have a lasting impact on the people and the profits?” To get some answers, please listen and enjoy my conversation with Ryan Achterhoff. This was an extremely enlightening for me and I hope it is for you as well.

Ryan Achterhoff currently serves as the Chief Administrative Officer for Pizza Ranch and has served in several roles in franchise development, restaurant consulting & operations, and supply chain management in his 17 years with the company.  Ryan currently directs all legal affairs, strategic planning initiatives, and franchise relations efforts for the company; as well as Human Resource and people development activities.  Prior to Pizza Ranch he worked in commercial lending and bank management for Iowa State Bank and Sales & Marketing management for a national promotional apparel and headwear manufacturer and distributor.  Ryan currently serves as the chairperson for the Iowa Restaurant Association and on the Board of Directors for the Pizza Industry Council, an extension of the National Restaurant Association.

The Cost & Connection Between Turnover & Hiring with Bruce Tracey PhD | 008

The cost of turnover is high. The rate of turnover is even higher.  If you ever put a calculator to work to see what just a single termination or resignation actually costs then you know why each decision must not be taken lightly. There is a solid connection between the rate of turnover and what is used to determine why a person is hired.

To say that, Bruce Tracey PhD has made a major positive impact on the hospitality industry would be an understatement. In this episode we start with the hard cold numbers of turnover from a study he coauthored titled 'The Costs of Employee Turnover:  When the Devil Is in the Details'.  Then, we get into what matters the most in hiring. We reference this study, "What Matters Most? The Perceived Importance of Ability and Personality for Hiring Decisions", which he also was a coauthor. We even get into something that is emerging in selecting new team members. It;s called 'Hospitality Factor'

J. Bruce Tracey is a professor of management at Cornell University's School of Hotel Administration. He has taught courses in human resources management for undergraduate, graduate, and professional audiences throughout North America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, and he has won several awards for his efforts. He has conducted research on a wide range of strategic and operational-level HR topics, including the roles and relevance of HR flexibility, impact of training initiatives on individual and firm performance, employee turnover, employment law, and leadership.

Professor Tracey has presented his work at numerous regional, national, and international conferences, and his research has been published in many of the top-tier discipline and applied outlets, including the Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology, Journal of Management, Organizational Research Methods, Cornell Hospitality Quarterly, and the University of Pennsylvania Journal of Labor and Employment Law.

Professor Tracey's sponsors for research and consulting include Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, Hilton Worldwide, Marriott International, Mövenpick Hotels and Resorts, Hillstone Restaurant Group, and Uno Chicago Grill, and he has been cited in the New York Times, USA Today, Fast Company, and the Orlando Sentinel, among other popular press outlets.
