The Daily Practice Podcast
finding consistency in your meditation practice

We start with a Hari Om and go into quite a conversation centred around a student’s question about staying connected to your meditation practice as it continues to evolve.

Consistency is key!

T’s Question: Love it in LA traffic. I actually look forward to the commute. You had asked for any suggestions or topics. I’ve been wondering about your thoughts on meditation. Different techniques and styles and how to drop in. How did you start, and how did it evolve to what it is now? I found when I was deep in some stuff, it was actually easier to get into that space, but over the last few years, what used to work for me isn’t anymore. I really struggle to get to that bliss state where I feel I get clarity or messages. How to come back to what I know I used to be able to do? And has that happened to you and led you to other methods…

Listen in to hear all about finding consistency and peace alongside your daily practice.

Dr Amber Kirk and Hacking our Nervous Systems

This episode is with Dr. Amber Kirk, a chiropractor interested in functional medicine, functional neurology and how to focus on the present moment as we journey through life. She talks to us about the tone of our nervous system and how we need to evolve alongside our bodies. We went to her house in the Squamish Valley to record this podcast, and it delivered. We felt full and a little lighter at the end of this conversation. She brings a lot of insight and awareness to the podcast about what is happening in our nervous systems and the profound effect that mantra can have on them.

Introduction of The Neuroscience of Pranyama Series w/ Julia McCabe

Julia McCabe is on the podcast this week. She is a catalyst in the lives of both Crystal and Andrea, who attended her 300-hour yoga teacher trainings (separately). She is a teachers teacher and a curious student for life that is back in school working on her Masters's in Neuroscience and Psychology of Mental Health at King’s College in London, UK. We are three really good friends that move in and out of friendly banter to deep teachings from the ancient and neuroscience lenses. This podcast talks about selective attention, how our attention spans are waning, how to breathe and why it’s important, teacher trainings, our triggers and how to deal with them. Today's teachings are ladder breath and adding a ‘what I did’ list to your nightly journal practice.

Episode 10 ~ Spiritual Mess + Shri Ram Mantra

This is a small clip we recorded in December when we first decided to make a podcast. It’s a short episode because it’s potent. Actually, everything Crystal teaches needs to be out in the world… the podcast is slowly morphing into something… next week's podcast is going to be LONGER as we have our neuroscience YOGI Julia McCabe. This week has a teaching, a story and a mantra to Ram, “Shri Ram”. Declaring oneself a Spiritual Mess presents a ‘beauty’ in itself. Remember, we’re all just doing our best.

The Koshas + Om Anando Hum

We start with a grounding Aum, and then Crystal drops into a story of the Koshas. We go through a million tangents about the power of our words, energy, and intentions and ask the universe for what we need. We close the episode with ‘Om Anando Hum Anando Hum’ from the Vedic tradition.  I AM BLISS // and remember our true self is: BLISSFUL, PEACEFUL, EXPANDABLE, HAPPY, FEARLESS //   When we chant, we get out of our heads and into our hearts. We're here to have an experience. How can we hold ourselves in this place?

Prana & Prajnaparamitra Mantra / The Heart Sūtra

We start with a grounding Aum and then drop into how you start your day and the breath of life. Crystal goes over some of the Vayus, and then, ultimately, we speak on our last breath and death. The mantra this week is a healing mantra the ‘Prajnaparamitra Mantra’// The Heart Sūtra and it is "the single most commonly recited, copied and studied scripture in East Asian Buddhism." It is recited by adherents of Mahayana schools of Buddhism regardless of sectarian affiliation. Crystal calls it the serenade to the soul. Enlightenment. And we sang it to those we loved and wished white light around them.

Stand in Your Power

Standing in Your Power. It’s a few weeks after the New Year, and many of us feel lulled as we have drifted from our resolutions or main intentions for the year. In today’s episode, we talk about how to check in with yourself. Crystal tells us that often this time of the year is when the universe challenges you to make sure you stay on your course. She tells us about how she did a ceremony in Mexico this New Year’s to aid in ‘standing in your power’ to embody your resolutions/words/themes/purpose/dharma for this year. Crystal grounds us in with 3 Aums and discusses finishing her manual for her advanced training ‘evolve 300hr’ in Bali, Indonesia, this spring. This will deepen your asana, pranayama, kriyas, mantra, mythology, meditation practice, and innate knowledge of functional anatomy. Our Mantra this week is Om Namah Shivaya & heya heyo. It’s time for a check-in, let’s recalibrate and get you back on track to stand in your true self and your POWER! Stand in your true self. Begin, and the pressure will be off. Start, and it will begin.

Stacking Habits with So Hum

We started the daily practice because we want people to sing mantras daily. Mantras are from ancient teaching and are used with the intention of helping us shine a light on parts of ourselves we want to illuminate and dive deeper into. When we repeat a mantra it helps calm our minds and unites our body and mind. This podcast was created to make it really easy for you to listen to a new mantra each week and repeat it all week long. To embody the teachings and become the prayer. It’s mid-January and most people have thrown their hands in the air and abandoned their resolutions. Mostly because they try to do too much. Our resolution is to maintain consistency through simplicity with all things mantra. Anywhere, anytime! We encourage you to make the space daily to check out to check-in. So Hum is the mantra for this week, it’s a Bija Mantra and we love it. Your homework this week is to go out into nature and create some vibration in the world as you sing So Hum.
