59. Stop Dieting and Start Intuitive Eating

In a world obsessed with diets, restrictions, and body image, intuitive eating is a breath of fresh air. I recently had the pleasure of sitting down for a podcast conversation with Libby Supan, a licensed marriage and family therapist, and certified intuitive eating coach. We discussed body positivity, intuitive eating, and disordered eating.

CW: This interview does contain reference to past binging and purging and restriction (from a healed place).

This discussion aims to debunk misconceptions about intuitive eating and emphasizes the importance of rejecting diet culture, developing self-trust, mindfulness, and joyful movement.

Libby shares personal experiences from her own eating disorder recovery and explains how she turned those experiences into a passion for helping others. The conversation also delves into the idea of fun food versus junk food, and the importance of removing morality labels from all food items, according to the Intuitive Eating approach. Libby highlights the need for a balanced approach to eating, acknowledging that one might gain weight, lose weight or stay the same when they start intuitive eating. The important part, she insists, is understanding that it's not a dieting regime, but rather a means to establish a healthier outlook on food and bring peace with oneself.

Takeaways:

My beef with Intuitive Eating

The role of intuitive eating in recovery

Relearning intuitive eating

The principle of food neutrality

56. Overcoming Challenges and Rebuilding Life

What does it mean to face death, survive, and then have to rebuild your life in the aftermath? This question is at the heart of my conversation with 3x acute lymphoblastic leukemia survivor and stroke survivor, Casey Kang Head. Casey has not only survived cancer but has reinvented herself as a cancer coach, encouraging others to reclaim their lives after treatment.

Her story is an inspiring testament to the power of resilience and perseverance.
 Key Takeaways:

  • Never Lose Hope: the importance of maintaining a hopeful outlook
  • Prioritize Your Health: Health should be non-negotiable – it is an investment that pays back tenfold. Be it through exercise, proper nutrition, or mental health practices, prioritize your well-being.
  • Practice Self-Care: Self-care is not a luxury but a necessity in facilitating healing and maintaining overall health.
  • Embrace Change: Cancer can change the course of your life. Embrace these changes, find your strength, and show up! You didn't fight this hard just to exist!
