What, where or who is home?
A true sense of belonging can sometimes feel elusive, especially when we are physically away from places and people who are familiar. In this For You segment, I share solidarity for anyone who feels like they are away from home physically or emotionally.
Hey Friend😀. It's great to be here with you once again.
In this episode, I welcome Meso Mary Gorety, to chat about her experience supporting girls and young women facing sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV). Meso discusses her work with various organizations, including Pamoja CBO and the She Leads project by Plan International, aiming to provide education on menstrual hygiene, sexual and reproductive health, and mental health. She shares her personal motivation stemming from her sister's traumatic experience with SGBV, highlighting the pivotal role of educating and empowering young girls in the community. We also talk about the cultural norms and stigmas that exacerbate the challenges faced by survivors and emphasizes the importance of more inclusive and supportive environments for young people. What an honor!

With last week being valentines, we are all rebounding from a full week of flowers, chocolates, dinner dates, lots of cute couple photos and the now popular money bouquets. Also thrown in the mix is good dose of love and marriage conversations. But the uninvited guest in all of this is the feeling of rejection, disappointment and hurt from unreciprocated love. What if the person you were hoping would ask you out for valentines just shared their mini-vacation photos by the pool ... with someone else?! Unrequited love is a tale as old as age and we'll talk about it today. I share my experience and two main lessons i gleaned from what felt like a near-death experience.

Hey Friend! Welcome to the WJP! So glad to have you here.
Today's episode is very short and sweet. I discuss the importance of solidarity during tough times, emphasizing that people often seek companionship and presence rather than solutions. I reflect on my own experience and introduce a new podcast segment called 'For You.'
The segment focuses on being present and listening, rather than offering quick fixes, and aims to create a soft landing for when life gets tough.
