Your body needs water and sleep to lose weight. Without those 2 things it doesn’t want to do the work of releasing weight - or much of anything else for that matter!
I know that you have tried lots of ways to lose weight, you’ve eaten certain types of foods, you’ve carried your water bottle around with you, you’ve drank water to fill your stomach up…
This is different.
I want you drink you water out of caring for your body. I want you to get in bed an hour earlier because you’re being kind to you. Because if you want beautiful results you better put in attractive effort!
Your body doesn’t lose weight or keep it off because you punished yourself there. It stays where it is COMFORTABLE.
These 2 things - drinking water and sleeping create COMFORT for your body.
They also help you repair, rejuvenate, clear brain fog, tidy up your systems, do the work of detoxing your brain and body - there aren’t many things that water and sleep don’t improve and improve at a pretty amazing return!
So, before you take anything out of your diet, or go to the gym like a mad woman, or buy any more supplements or powders or start counting anything - please drink some water and get some sleep. Consistently.
So, to reiterate - if you want your body to do the hard work of burning the excess fat you’re lugging around, do it a solid and drink plenty of water and give it good quality rest.

Hi! I’m, Caryn Gillen and I help leaders and entrepreneurs lose weight.
Your brain is very efficient. It creates habits to keep you headed in THE SAME direction.
It is a fabulous thing that our brains do for us AND when we want to make change we have to acknowledge it or we’ll be stuck, and likely frustrated.
I had an Ah-Ha! Moment this week where I caught onto some wording I was using that was not serving me.
Side Note: Language - the words we use, are super important. I’ll do an episode on that soon…
What came up or me is just the basic difference in definition between RATIONAL and RATIONALIZING.
Check this out:
Rational: based on or in accordance with reason or logic
Rationalizing: attempt to explain or justify (one's own or another's behavior or attitude) with logical, plausible reasons, even if these are not true or appropriate.
Did you catch that?!
Rational means it is in line with reason or logic.
Rationalizing means we are trying to justify what we’re up to!
That Felt like and Ah Ha! To me because I have a very, very, very rational brain - I always have - it works well for me. It helps me out! I am cool under pressure, the number one word people use to describe me is “calm” - so I get “rational” in my bones!
What I have to watch out for is when that same sounding voice in my head starts RATIONALIZING.
See what I mean!
So, in weight loss this could look like your perfectly laid out plan for today, that you made yesterday that took into account your schedule, your leftovers, your time, etc. It’s a beautiful plan, thoughtfully made, that gets you closer to the results you want…
Then - today - you hear the thought:
I know you’ve had at least one - maybe all - of those thoughts before! I know I sure have!
So, when you go into changing your habit around eating, when you start planning for the first time (or the 50th time), when you try to do anything in the pursuit of “different.” Your brain will try and get you to stay the same.
Not because it doesn’t love you, because it does!
Just because it’s trying to save you energy so you can survive. That lizard part of your brain just wants to keep you alive. Nothing has gone wrong!
So, next time you notice that you’re rationalizing over being just plain rational I want you to remember that it’s completely normal. AND STICK TO YOUR PLAN!
Normalizing this will change everything. It takes the sting out of it.
Sometimes these things crop up in our minds and we make it mean we’re bad people, or we’ll never make it work, or that it’s too hard.
None of that is true - the only that’s true is that IT WILL HAPPEN.
Your choice, is what do you do with it?
You want to develop this habit, the habit of seeing your brain try to rationalize and just chuckling at it. Not in the mean point and laugh kind of way, but in the “Oh, bless your heart.” kind of way!
Of course you want me to eat the cookie! You poor dear, you think the cookie will save me - it won't. Moving on...

Losing the weight isn’t hard, that part is super easy when you have the right tools, and you get your body pointed in the right direction.
What’s hard, what feels terrible, is thinking about having to lose weight!!
Think about it. You’re asking your brain to change operating systems from being a weight gaining or weight maintaining creature - to a weight losing creature.
Your body can certainly do it. You just have to get your brain on board. Once you do that - there are a thousand ways to do it!
I need you to know this because your body can absolutely do it. In fact, it wants to work FOR you. It just needs some help.
I’m not saying this to be disrespectful of the struggle that has brought you to today. I do not discount your attempts and your desire.
The problem is, if we give all the failed attempts too much credit then they get in the way of you actually having what you want! Where you’re going - all that past “proof” does not serve you.
Who would you be if you made choices in support of your body instead of against it?
What would be different if you cared for you body with food?
If you knew weight loss was 100% guaranteed and would arrive on July 1st fully wrapped with a pretty bow - what would you do with your time and energy between now and then?
Think about it? If your focus truly shifted to the brain of the person who had done it instead of focusing on being the person who can’t do it -- what would you be thinking about? Doing? Eating?
Making the shift from living as the person who fails at this and struggles -- to being the person who has done it and lives it everyday is the work.
That’s all I do with my clients. We spend about month getting all the food dialed in and all those food questions answered - then we go to work on becoming the person who has it done.
When you walk in the world as the woman without the struggle - then you have freedom - no matter what the scale says. Then, you get to have the peace, the relief, the confidence all the way to your goal weight.
You don’t have to wait to feel the benefits!!
Okay, so you’re job is to consider who you’d be at goal weight that is different than who you are right now. What does she think about? What are her concerns? What’s fun for her now that the struggle is behind her?
