The #1 Story Formula You Can Use For Anything
Have you ever heard a story that really got your attention and kept you totally captivated for anywhere from a couple of minutes to a couple of hours?
Have you ever read a book that you just couldn’t put down until you finished it?
Is there a movie you love, and you keep watching over and over again?
And have you ever heard a sales story so compelling that you had to buy that product even though you weren’t sure you even needed it?
If you answered YES to any of these questions, it might be because what really hooked you was the #1 story formula!
The reason you felt so enticed by the story — whether it was a book, a movie, or sales copy — is because the creators used a formula called the Hero’s Journey!
I’ve discussed this in my Mindset and Money podcasts.
Here’s how it works:
Everybody is looking for formulas and blueprints. But if you want to tell a great sales story, you need to learn how to tell the “Hero’s Journey.”
This journey can be about:
• You
• A product
• A situation
• A group of people
The Hero’s Journey is like the Swiss Army app of stories that works every time because it reaches people’s hearts. It’s hard-wired into the human psyche to feel emotion when you hear a compelling story!
This is the pattern you should follow to create a story any time you need one.
After all, the Hero’s journey is all about an honest representation of your product or service that will touch people’s emotion. People want to hear about the real thing going on behind the scenes.
The Hero’s Journey In a Nutshell
• Everything is basically okay
• Something happens to change everything
• Things go from bad to worse
• Things hit rock bottom
• There’s a discovery made
• There’s a resurgence / resurrection
• There’s a movement to a whole, better reality

Whenever I start a new company or start working with someone on their business, the first thing I always do is map out the customer’s value ladder. It helps to give you a vision of how you plan on serving your dream customers and where you want to take them. It helps you figure out the real purpose for your company: the main goal or result that you are trying to help them achieve.
This starts with defining the result that your dream customer will be coming to you to achieve. I call this your “value ladder mission statement.” or VLMS, and I break it down like this.
We help (insert who) to (insert result they want to achieve) through (insert your new opportunity).
Who is the person you want to serve? We have talked a lot about your dream customers so far in this series. We build everything inside of this value ladder to attract and serve them.
What is the result you can provide for your dream customer? What is it that they have been unsuccessfully trying to accomplish before entering your world that you know you can solve when you have a change to serve them?
What is your new opportunity that you want to offer them? What is the offer that you are providing the that is different from the things they have tried in the past when attempting to achieve this same result?
After you’ve defined that for your value ladder, everything you create will be moving people towards the next step. Every offer you create at each step of the value ladder will be helping to achieve that core goal.

Every day, as you’re scrolling through your Facebook newsfeed, checking your email, or searching to find something on Google, there are hundreds of business owners who are throwing out “hooks” with a goal to grab your attention long enough that they can tell you their story.
The hook are the headlines, images, ad videos that we put in front of our dream customers wherever they are congregating, with a goal to capture their attention just long enough that we can tell them our story.
I call these hooks “Enquirer Interrupts” Because they remined me of being at the grocery store and walking through the checkout stand, where one of the headlines from the tabloids grabs my attention. Your job online is almost the same. You are going to the busiest places online, where your dream customers are congregating and throwing out dozens of hooks, with a goal to capture the attention of those people, just long enough that you can tell them a story, and then make them a special offer.
The hook doesn’t provide any value by itself, but it grabs attention for the story, and each story could have dozen of different hooks.
Every story you put into the market has dozens of potential hooks that you could be throwing out. We never know which ones will grabs your market’s attention, so it’s important that we keep throwing out hooks until you find the ones that effectively hook your dream customer.
Hook , Story, Offer. After you know who your dream customers is, and you’ve identified where they are congregating, this is the bait that will get them to come into your world so you can serve them and change their lives with the business that you’ve built. This leads us to the last step in the secret formula, which is the result What is the big result that you are trying to get from them? In the next part, we will be talking about the value ladder, which will give you the ability to serve these dream customers at a higher level while you make more money doing it.

We all have a story to tell or many stories that we need to tell. Those are the stories that we need to tell to get people to buy what you are selling. Your stories is what will bond you and your customers together. Your stories are what will make people relate to who you are and what you are selling to them.
Most people think that telling stories are not important but if you do not tell your story how can they relate? The truth is they cannot. How can they trust that you know how they feel and what their needs are if you are not willing to tell your story that you were in the same position as they currently are.
I know what you are thinking but I sell homes or an RV how does story telling make a difference. The answer is look at why are you selling those things and that is the story you want to share when you are showing people homes or that new RV.
Do you remember the first home you bought or lived in? Do you remember the happy memories of a home that you lived in? Again that is a story you can share?
Let’s look at selling RV’s do you have a camping story that makes you happy? Did you take an RV trip that brought joy to your life? These are all stories that you can share and they will bring you closer to your customers.
How does the story telling build trust or bond you with your customers. The answer is simple it takes them on a journey from where they are now, that same place you were at the start of your story, to the place they want to be, that is where you currently on. Your story tells them that you have been in their shoes and you know how to take them to that place they want to be.
When you get good at story telling you take each and every person who hears your story on a path that you went on and you give them hope that if you can achieve what you have achieved they can as well. You give them an “AHA” moment. You give them a reason to trust and believe.
Take the time and write down your story to why you are doing what you are doing. Write as much detail, write down your struggles and write the end result and how that has changed your life. That is what your customer will buy. The product or service matters very little because if your customers cannot relate to the story and you they will never buy into your product or service.
Write your story.

At this point in the secret formula, you should know exactly who you want to serve, and you should have started to identify the places that your dream customers are congregating online. Now it’s your job to create bait that will bring those dream customers into your world. The way we do that is through a framework that I call Hook, Story, Offer.
Every step in your business should have a hook, story and an offer. The ads you place online, the emails you send, the landing pages your create, as well as any upsells, webinars, or phone calls you make, will all have a hook, a story, and an offer. If something isn’t working in your business, it’s always either the hook, the story, or the offer.
This framework is the key to your success online, so I want to dive deeper into how to create hooks that will grab your dream customers, how to tell stories to increase the value of your offer, and how to create and present an offer in a way that people have to say yes, Even though it’s called Hook, Story, Offer, I want to actually start with the offer first. After we talk about how we create an irresistible offer, then we’ll talk about how to craft a story that will increase the value of that offer, and lastly we’ll talk about the hooks we will create to grab someone’s attention long enough that they will listen to your story.
Your Irresistible Offer
If you’re following this series, then you likely already have a product or a service that you are selling or would like to sell online and you want to figure out how you can sell a lot more. If you don’t have a business yet, and are trying to figure out what you should sell to be successful online, then these are the three core categories that almost every business online falls into:
You’re selling a physical products: This could be anything from supplements to flashlights to TV’s or more. Any type of physical product that you would ship out to someone after they order.
You’re selling an information product: These are my authors, speakers, coaches or consultants (or affiliates selling these products for others). These products often include digital courses, membership sites, live events and training.
You’re selling a service: May of my local brick and mortar companies like restaurants, dentists, chiropractors, Realtors, and financial planners would put themselves in this bucket, but it’s also true for online services like software, design work, etc…

Once you’ve hooked your dream customer with the perfect offer, the last question is what result or value do you want to give them? We are not talking about what product or service you want to sell them. A business is not about product or services. A business is about what result you can get for your clients. Once you (and they) understand that concept, the price is no longer a barrier.
You need to understand that many of your customers may not be able to pay for your top level service (which is why you should develop other products or services), but understanding where you ultimately want to take the dream customer is the key to this step.
Take a moment to imagine that your dream client could pay you anything to get a desired result. What, then, would you do to help guarantee their success? Where would you lead them? What does that place look like? Keep that place in your mind; it’s the pinnacle of success for your clients. It’s where you want to take them.
The framework for this step of the secret formula is called “the value ladder.” It will be broken down in greater detail later in the series and I will show you how to ascend your customers so you can make more money and they can receive more value.

Once you know where your dream customer are, you have to create the right hook to grab their attention. The hooks are the ads that will grab the attention of your dream customers just long enough for you to tell them a story. The goal of the story is to build rapport with them as well as break the false beliefs they have that would keep them from taking you up on your offer. The offer is the thing you’ve created for your dream customer so you can give them the results they desire. If you do this step correctly, it will repel the customers you don’t want to serve and attract the right customers to you.
So you need to crate the offer that will attract your dream customer. You know the two customers we created in the last part of this series, Remember mine were Jessica and Brodie.
When you figure out what your dream clients want, it becomes very easy to attract them. Through out this series we are going to talk more about creating the right offer. But for now, just realize the offer has to match what your dream customer wants.
Because this step in the formula has its own framework (called “Hook, Story, and Offer”). We will dive deeper into that later in the series.

Question #2: Where are your dream customers congregating?
The second question in this secret formula is where can you find your dream customer? Where are they already congregating online?
The greatest power of the internet is the power of congregations. Groups of people gathering in little corners of the internet make it possible for people like you and me to get into business quickly ad be successful without all the barriers and expensive hurdles of traditional media.
When you hear the word congregation, what’s the first thing that pops into your head? For most people, the word congregation brings to mind a church. A church is really nothing more than a group of people who gather based on similar interest. If you were selling a perfect product to someone who attends church than you would find your dream customer there in one place. All you’d have to do is put your message out in front of them, and if you made a good offer, some of them would buy.
I want to stop here before this analogy goes any deeper, because my point is not to teach you how to sell things to churches. I just want you to understand the power of a congregation because it’s one of the main reason the internet is such an amazing tool for business. Remember prior to the internet it was hard for people around the world to congregate. We were limited by location and ability to communicate. But now it’s possible for anyone and everyone to congregate and discuss almost anything with groups of people who have similar interest.
There are congregations online for everything you can dream up. What are the online congregation that you participate in? My guess is there are at least a dozen or more things that you’re interested in, and you have a special place on the internet to go be with your people and talk about what’s important to you.
I want you to now start thinking about congregations as they relate back to your dream customer. What are the congregations that they are already participating in? Start asking yourself these questions:
Once you understand the core concept of congregations, driving traffic becomes incredibly easy. My job as a marketer is to figure out who it is You want to serve, and then figure out where they are already congregating.
So go and find where your clients are congregating!!
Have you ever asked yourself this one powerful question that could change everything for you, “Who is your dream customer?” I can bet up to this point in your business, you have never asked yourself this question. Most people are trying to sell to anyone and everyone they can. Most people put all their focus and all their efforts on creating a good product without any though about who you actually want to serve. While focusing on the product sounds smart at first, it can leave you tired, frustrated, and empty inside. If you were to pick your dream customer, who are they, what do they look like, and what are the offers you could create that would attract them? This is also the first question you need to ask yourself when starting your new company or making the shift to truly grow your existing company.
Question #1: Who is your dream customer? The first question you have to ask yourself is, Who do I actually want to work with? Most people start with a product idea, never thinking about who we want as clients or customers, yet these are the people you will be interacting with day in and day out. You’ll oftentimes spend more time with these people than your own friends and family.
Hell, we pick our life partners more carefully, so why wouldn’t you take the same time and care in deciding who your dream client or customer will be? If you’re just getting started, this may not seem important. But I promise you that if you don’t consciously choose your dream client, one day you will wake up and find that you are working with people who exhaust you and wishing that someone could fire you from the business you created.
I don’t want it to take you years to figure this out. I want you to sit back and actually think about the who. I want you to realize that you have been overlooking some pretty important questions such as:
Now you really want you to think about the who question. Once you have done that you need to create two customer avatars: one for the men you want to work with and one for the women you want to work with.

Now its time for you understand the basics behind how to attract the perfect clients, I want to walk you through a framework that I call “The Secret Formula.” Inside this next series , I am going to go deeper into each piece of this process, but I wanted to introduce it to you now so you know where we are heading in this series. The secret formula askes four simple questions that serve as the guide for everything we’ll be doing inside this series.
Question #1: Who is your dream customer? If you could pick your dream customer, the type of person who would make you wake up every morning on fire because you’re so excited to work with them, what would they look like? The better you can identify this person, the easier it will be for you to find them.
Question #2: Where are they congregating? After we know who we are looking for, the next step is to find out where they are hiding, Where are they spending their time online? When I can identify exactly where they are online, getting them into your program becomes easy.
Question #3: What is the bait that you can use to attract them to you? Now that you know where they are, your job is to throw out hooks to try to grab their attention. After you have their attention, you tell them a story to build a relationship and increase the perceived value of what you have to offer, and then you need to make them an actual offer to get them into your world.
Question #4: What is the unique result that you can create for them? After they have come into your world, what other things can you do to help give them the results they are looking for? People don’t come to you because they want your program, they come to you because they want a specific result. So what is the process you will take them thought to give them more value so you can serve them at a higher level and give them a result that will truly change their life?
These four simple questions will not only be the framework for this series, but everything else you learn inside of this your journey of having an online business. These are the same four questions that I ask everyone who hires me for personal consultations, I help them to understand and implement this formula, as well as the script writing and webinar making to help move people through the value ladder of your programs.

How lovely is the morning ! All the things of earth are fresh and newly born again the ravages that seemed to wear away the newness in which yesterday began have been restored. The World’s recovery shines on each blade of grass and every leaf that sings again of morning. And God’s Voice Calls to his son to make another choice.
This is a day of celebration, a time to reflect on the incredible work you’ve done. Follow the guided meditation here.
After the meditation, do an -ing writing in which you share your experience of your new miracle-worker practice. Let it all out. Document your excitement for the powerful work you have done. Honor yourself through each and every work.

Following this meditation, take some time for stillness. Allow yourself to surrender to the loving spirit energy that surrounds you. Soak it up and revel in the love. Enjoy this beautiful day. Be proud of how far you’ve come. Know that with this practice, anything is possible.

This evening’s exercise is about having fun!
When you make fun your primary purpose, you will experience many miracles and be of high service to the world. So tonight’s exercise is to become aware of all the ways you can ignite more fun.
Let’s revisit the area of your life we addressed in this course. Touching on each ware of your life, identify where you can inject more straight-up fun. In your journal, respond to the following questions.
The next part of this exercise offers you guidance to continue your miracle-worker practice far beyond this six-week program. For the next month I encourage you to exercise fun at least once in each of these areas of your life.
Throw a party for yourself to celebrate your hard work. Cook a beautiful meal and enjoy sharing it with others. Test drive a cool, out-of- the-ordinary workout. Experience a fun adventure with another person. Get together with your coworkers socially and deepen your connections. Smile more as you travel throughout your life.
The most significant point of this exercise is to raise your overall love energy. When you raise your love energy, you bring more love to the world. The experience of love is the greatest gift you have to offer- because love breeds more love.
These are among many simple examples of igniting more fun in your world. Remember, as Wayne Dyer says, your intentions create your reality, When you intend to have fun, you have a fun life. Simple as that.

I love to make this my mantra! As a committed miracle worker, this line from A course in Miracles is my go-to affirmation whenever I notice my ego sneak in. (You can only imagine how often I use this affirmation.) Regardless of how far we come on our miracle-minded path, the ego will always find ways to rain all over the love parade.
Having this affirmation in your back pocket is like having a fire extinguisher for the ego. I encourage you to include this affirmation in your daily practice from this point forward. Whenever you notice your ego fire up, sniff out the flames by affirming: I am here to be truly helpful.

EVENING EXERCISE DAY 40
This evening we’re going to rock the F word once again. Your exercise is to write a forgiveness letter to a person or organization you've been resenting. I don’t expect you to share it (unless you choose to do so). Instead, use this process as an opportunity to clean house. This letter will embody your willingness to banish the ego’s attack and awaken to a new clear mind.
Get clear about a person or organization you’ve been resenting greatly. Maybe you’re holding on to anger toward a past employer. Or maybe you’re resentful of your opposing political party. Holding on to these resentments won’t serve you or the world. Get honest with yourself about the ways your resentment has been holding you back from stepping into your true service. How has your ego held you back from forgiving? In what ways has this resentment negatively affected your life? How has this resentment held you back from living your life? How has this resentment held you back form living in your power an sharing your light with the world? Let your realization of the ego’s negative impacts become the impetus for you to go ahead and surrender to writing the letter. There is no right or wrong way to write this letter. All that matter is that your intention is clean. With clear purpose release your resentment on to the page and wrap it with love and forgiveness.
When you’ve finished writing the letter, bring it to your meditation space for a ritual. Read the letter to yourself and ask your inner guide to show you how to forgive. Recite the following prayer from A course in Miracles:

To everyone I offer peace of mind.
To everyone I offer gentleness.

MORNING REFLECTION DAY 40
Get comfortable in your meditation space and prepare for today's morning reflection. This morning you are going to take a bold step forward forgiving your ego’s false projections. Read the passage and sit for one minute in stillness, allowing the magnitude of the intention to set in.
I forgive the false projections I have placed on the world. I forgive myself for choosing these attack throughs, and I forgive all those involved in the fear I have created. Through forgiveness I set myself free from the fearful would I projected.
DAY 40 AFFIRMATION
I FORGIVE THE FALSE PROJECTIONS I HAVE PLACED ON THE WORLD.
As it says in Lesson 75 of the Course workbook: “Today we celebrate the happy ending to your long dream of disaster. The light has come. I have forgiven the world.” through forgiveness you can end your illusion of fear. Today’s affirmation changes your mind about your fear of the world Each time you forgive your fear you acknowledge it is false. When you believe in fear, the world you see is fearful. By forgiving the false projections you have places on the world, you can disconnect from the ego’s stories, images, and attack. You can be set free from the fear of the world and choose to see love instead.
Throughout the day, when you notice a fearful projection placed on your worldly experience, simply say to yourself: I forgive the false projections have placed on the world. Even the most mundane circumstance, like getting impatient with a bank teller or think a negative thought about a stranger, can be an attack on the world. in these moments, regardless of how insignificant they may seem, I encourage you to say your affirmation. Each thought you have either supports the positive energy of the world or pollutes it. Be mindful of your thoughts.

This evening, your exercise is to write a letter of gratitude to a person or organization that had greatly affected your life. This practice is guaranteed to bring you happiness — but it also will have a wonderful effect on the other people involved. By sharing your gratitude with others, you inspire them to carry on their sacred path. Shinning light on the accomplishment of others brings more light to the world.
There is no right or wrong way to write this letter. Simply write from your heart, Share all that you are grateful for and pour your truth onto the page. The goal is to feel the experience of gratitude come forth as you openly share your appreciation. The energy of gratitude that is ignited within you will be felt throughout the other. If you feel moved to share the letter, feel free to press send on and e-mail or stamp an envelope, if you don’t feel moved to share it, you can trust that the energy of the message is being picked up no matter how far away the other party may be. The energy of gratitude is pure love and can penetrate all time and space. Extend your love and light to the world with this beautiful gift of gratitude.

Today I am grateful for the world around me. I am grateful for the lessons I’ve learned and the new growth opportunities ahead. I am grateful for my new loving perceptions of the world.
AFFIRMATION DAY 39
I AM GRATEFUL FOR MY NEW PERCEPTIONS OF THE WORLD.
Today’s affirmation brings gratitude to the world you’ve projected. Acknowledging your new vision of the world is important to your miracle-worker practice. As you know by now the ego will resist your loving perceptions at all cost. Therefore, it’s important to celebrate your new perspective by practicing today’s affirmation. Remember that the Course teaches that projection is perception. What you project internally you will perceive externally. When your project an inner state of gratitude, you bring light to your external perceptions. Each time you affirm your loving perspective of the world you dissociate from fear and flat out feel better. Your loving feelings will be felt by everyone around you as they vibrate throughout the atmosphere. Use this affirmation throughout the day to guide your internal projections and energy back to love.

EXERCISE DAY 38
This evening ‘s exercise is more action oriented than usual. Tonight you are going to step outside your comfort zone and do something kind for someone else. The action you take this evening will be uncomfortable for your ego. The ego had a strong need to focus on serving yourself first, for fear that there won’t be enough love to go around. The Course teaches the exact opposite mentality: that when we sever others, we greatly serve ourselves. Tonight you will experience the miracle of what true altruism can bring.
Take a moment to think of someone in need. It can be someone you know directly or someone you don’t know at all.
Next, read the Saint Francis prayer that follows here, (Throughout my spiritual journey I’ve often turned to this prayer for a powerful reminder to shift into a we mentality.) After reading the prayer, sit in stillness briefly, then allow the accompanying service meditation to guide and take loving action toward being of service to someone else.
The Saint Francis prayer is one of the greatest messages for service and interconnectedness. Enjoy.
PRAYER OF SAINT FRANCIS
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love,
Where there is injury, pardon.
Where there is doubt, faith,
Where there is despair, hope
Where there is darkness, light.
Where there is sadness, joy.
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled, as to console: to be understood, as to understand: to be loved, as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive.
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.

Let’s begin today’s shift with a powerful morning reflection. Get situated in your meditation space and read the following passage to yourself. Then sit in stillness for one minute and allow your -ing to come forward and guide the shifting process.
Today I prepare to shift my focus from a me mentality to a we mentality. When I am of service to others. I get out of my own way and stop focusing on my own inner turmoil. Today I choose to shift my attention from my internal dialogue by consciously paying attention to others. I will listen to those who want to be heard. I will help those who are in need. I will guide those who are lost. I will serve those who call for love.
AFFIRMATION DAY 38
I WILL LISTEN TO THOSE WHO WANT TO BE HEARD, HELP THOSE WHO ARE IN NEED, GUIDE THOSE WHO ARE LOST, AND SERVE THOSE WHO CALL FOR LOVE.
Write this affirmation on a piece of paper and put it in your pocket. Throughout the day, whenever you notice your ego come up, take the affirmation out of your pocket and recite it to yourself. Let this affirmation guide you to shift your me thoughts to we thoughts in an instant. Refocus your attention each time you reach into your pocket for guidance.

EVENING EXERCISE DAY 37
Tonight is an exercise in saying yes to your -ing call for love. Let the spirit of your inner guide more through you.
Make a list of all the issues that have been troubling you-whether it be a fear of not having enough money, fear that you cannot leave a relationship, or fear of not living out your life’s purpose. Simply get honest about what fears are present in your today. It’s likely that these fears have less of a hold on your than they did in your first week of this practice. It’s also possible that new, deeper emotions may be coming forward due to your commitment to grow. this exercise help you surrender once again to your inner guide and activate an ever greater connection to love.
Look closely at the list and invite your -ing in for healing. Read what you’ve written, then recite the following prayer out loud. Go one by one down the list and recite this prayer for each fear on your list.
Inner Guide, I turn my fears over to you. I know that I have a greater purpose than to dwell in fear. Please take this from me now.
Then sit in stillness and let inspiration flow through you. Trust that your -ing will have no trouble calling on creative, loving thoughts to shine love into your darkest corners.
This exercise helps you to see your fear head-on and choose love instead. You are ready now to do this, and it’s a crucial part of the practice. This work will clear your energy so you can shine brighter in the world. Embracing your spiritual connection is like being given a supercharge power outlet that you can always plug into. knowing this outlet is available at any time will give you the strength to serve and the faith you need to live in love and be of high service. Take this seriously and you will experience a tremendous sense of relief. Repositioning your fear through your connection to your -ing is a practice I hope you’ll use forever.
