52. Reclamation of Self: w/Phumeza On healing for self, my girl and the collective Sisterhood |+ Seasons and Discernment

She is soft spoken but loud when it comes to what she stands for. I met her in 2019 at a black women hosted Table talk and she was sitting right opposite me with the most beautiful smile and bald head. In our conversation we realized we both had platforms that shared conversations with women, and so we kept in contact since. So today I am excited to bring you our conversation which we both had been planning for a while.

She’s an amazing woman who acts as she preaches, today I am in conversation with Phumeza Langa

Phumeza is a strategic communications consultant, speaker and freelance writer. She is the host of Twitter chat and spaces #SistaHoodHour, established in 2017 and #SistaHoodHourConversations podcast that was started in 2020. Phumeza’s career spans over 10 years including working with corporate and consumer clients, within the agency environment as well as being part of a corporate marketing and communications team.

Through her #SistaHoodHour platform, Phumeza has been a part of work and conversations that impact women, not only to highlight the issues and concerns they face but intending to educate, create solutions and opportunities for women to connect and collaborate in different areas of their lives.

In our conversation today we talk about her own journey with Sisterhoodhour, how the platform she created, and build become part of her self-discovery journey and even more. She shares about her personal journey with understanding self-first, her motherhood experience and the importance of embodying the aspirations we often hold for our girl child to also see lived out by their mothers especially in spaces we hope to change the narrative.

This is my conversation with Phumeza Langa. Do enjoy listening.

51.Books Chats and Chill Episodes: The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz

Today’s episode comes in between the series because it’s long overdue. It’s been a while since I brought you a new episode with Omphile for our Books Chat and Chill episodes. We in fact recorded this episode in April and it was meant to go live in May but life happened in between and here we are in June hence it just couldn’t wait any longer. This is the second episode.

On this episode we sat down to talk our experience reading The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz, at some point while re-listening to our conversation I had to pull for a box of tissue because this conversation felt like a reminder I needed to hear, and I know for sure it will land with someone too. Omphile also says it herself that this one is one she might come back in future for the reminders here.

This is my conversation with Omphile, do enjoy listening/watching this episode and remember to share your review.

46. Reclamation of Self: w/Siphilile Khumalo On Living your Dharma | Welcoming the energy of abundance as women of colour

Today I am in conversation with Siphilile Khumalo who I’ve had the pleasure to work with on our last year’s retreat with Among the Lilies. Siphilile is a psychology student at Wits University and the Founder and Director of Zelanga Africa. She is a certified yoga and meditation teacher trained at Nature Yoga Sanctuary (Chicago). She felt a compelling need to obtain a psychology degree after returning to her birth country due to a high prevalence of mental health issues in South Africa. Her mission is to provide clinical care and healing to those she is called to serve.

Siphilile has a natural talent for understanding people. She has been working with different NGOs in both South Africa and Chicago on inclusive & curated wellness programs aimed at making wellness accessible to all. Her belief is that people can move from surviving to thriving with proper care, support, and deep healing.

In our conversation we go through her own journey, we dive into the awareness of the ego, the importance of embracing the dark and the light side in us, and more about money conversation and welcoming the energy of abundance as wellness leaders and women of colour. There are many moments we found ourselves connecting through laughter.

45. Reclamation of Self: w/Vuyo Khumalo On Healing our money stories and the pursuit of freedom | Living a fulfilling life

Welcome to the first episode of a series I have created where I interviewed women who I have been inspired by their work, their healing journey and the way they hold space. In this series I uncover ways in which the work that they do has been part of reclaiming self and how it expanded beyond self to being of service to others.

Today I am in conversation with Vuyo Khumalo who is a behavioral money coach and Founder of Money EQ. I was divinely connected to Vuyo through this platform and I have been so blessed by her work.

With over 7 years’ experience working in financial services regulation as a financial analyst and passion for human behavior and helping people uncover their greatest potential. Vuyo married her background in finance with her passion for people and became a Money Coach.

In our conversation we talk about her own journey, how her pursuit to finding her own freedom lead her to the work that she does now, how important it is to understand the root of our money stories first and giving it language.

Today’s episode is one that I have been looking forward to share, it was also one that was requested.

Most of us experience this but what makes us feel like we are imposters even when we have all the proof to show that we qualify. This feeling of being inadequate, not enough or that people will find you out that you are as flawed sometimes plagues us. On this episode I share my view on it.

41. Books Chats and Chill Episodes: What Happened to you? by Dr. Perry and Oprah

Today is our first episode of Books Chats and Chill episode, where I unpack books alongside Omphile (from Bookamoso). On today's episode we are unpacking the book What Happened to you by Dr. Bruce Perry and Oprah Winfrey

The book highlights the importance of acknowledging and addressing what happened to us in order to understand the role it plays in explaining our behavioral patterns and to restore ones humanity. Essentially to move away from "what’s wrong with you" to engage "what happened to you" conversations.

There was no book review submitted for this book, we are still inviting you to submit yours for our next books lined up for this series. You can send us a voice note on the link below or share them via DM or email.

40. Self-care or Self-sabotage | When what we regard as self-care can be self-sabotage

There's a thin line between self-care and self sabotage. But do we always see it when what regard as self-care is actually self-soothing or numbing ourselves. I had an interesting conversation with my husband that sparked the interest to relook at how I define self-care and what is self-care really.

This is what I unpack on today's episode.

38. Building Self-trust | Learning to lean on your own ability and inner knowing

Do you ever doubt that you can make the right decisions for yourself?

Sis, I used to. In the earliest days of my relationship with my husband I leaned on him a lot to make most of the decisions, even more, to help me with my own. I didn't trust that I was capable of making the right decisions for myself neither did I believe that I was capable of fulfilling the promises I made to myself

Over the past years I've allowed myself to make those decisions even if they don't turn out the way I had desired but to also keep record when they do. This helped gain confidence in myself and trust that I can make my own decisions, and that a poor outcome didn't mean I was bad at making my own decisions. Self-trust is not saying you know all the answers, nor is it believing that you will always get it right. It’s knowing that despite the outcome you got you, you got your support and respect still.

What's good is that we can begin to trust ourselves again. On today's episode I share about self-trust - what breaks self-trust and how to nurture it.

I hope you do enjoy this episode.

37. The journey to self-acceptance | Finding harmony within self

How to cultivate self acceptance and How will it benefit you

The journey to self-acceptance does not happen overnight. Learning to be okay with all of you can be hard at times, but with practice, patience and being deliberate about it you can learn the art of self-acceptance.

On today's episode I share my own personal experience with self-acceptance, how denying yourself of that can hinder you from leaving in peace with yourself and where you can start with your journey of self-acceptance.

Once we find peace within ourselves we engage the world from a different stand point that is nourishing and content.

I hope you do enjoy this episode.

36. Loosening the idea we have about self | How we hinder ourselves from living as our highest self

What would you allow yourself to do if you loosened the idea you have about yourself, and still held your life as important?

Imagine the freedom that this would give you, to explore your whole self. This is one of the ways that you could come to knowing yourself better this year. Releasing yourself from the idea you have derived about yourself, and going for the thing you have not allowed yourself to explore about yourself.

Sometimes the ideas we hold about ourselves can be the thing that is standing on our way to experiencing our wholeness. But allowing yourself to do the uncomfortable thing that resonates with you or the thing that has always felt like the right thing to do can be the thing that will bring you closer to your true self.

On today's episode I share some of the ways we may be standing on our way to to living as our highest self and from experiencing our full self while being attached to the ideas we have about ourselves. I share my personal experience and my one word for the year that aligns with how I want to feel this year and step out of the idea I hold about self.

I hope you do enjoy this episode.

Living Content
This Podcast is a safe platform that explores deep meaningful conversations on holistic wellness. We cover topics on healing, wellbeing, intentional living, self-development/help and different self-care modalities accessible to the modern woman. This is a space where women feel less alone while on their journey of getting to know themselves better and cultivate lives they desire for themselves. I share tools and resources that help women navigate their personal healing journeys and feel more empowered to live lives rooted in self-trust, self-love and understanding. I'm your host Olerato.
