How to Manage Stress: Having it all

Parent, partner, sibling, offspring, grandparent, carer, entrepreneur/careerist: it's hard to have it all. Yet, especially in this day and age, that's what we expect of ourselves. After all, social media, and the media in general, never tires of the subject or of the expectations that we "must" meet for ourselves and others. The comparison game has us reaching every higher: the impression that others are sailing through can exacerbate this endless striving, leaving us feeling exhausted, frustrated and even anxious. It can be relentless, causing us to feel not good enough, like we are failing. So we try harder, and harder, until something gives. What gives is either your expectations of yourself or your life, your health (mental and physical). Or perhaps your relationships or your job. In the worst case scenario, all of the above. In this episode of How to Manage Stress I am in conversation with mother, wife, daughter, sibling and award-winning entrepreneur Luna Williams about her struggles with juggling so many things and how she deals with it. Learn the art and reality of "having it all". And if you know someone who struggles with this, do like and share: you never know when it might land at just the right time for someone. How to Manage Stress: Navigating our cycles

We are not the same every day. Like the cycles of life, we aren't meant to be yet we expect so much of ourselves that any variation on our perceived best is not only misunderstood but often criticised - mostly by ourselves. We are all, men and women alike, old and young, from every ethnicity and orientation, subject to the various cycles of life and of being. How we navigate these can have a huge impact on how stressed we are and can offer clues into how to manage stress more effectively. The various cycles relate to the 24 hour clock, the days of the week, the months of the year, the seasons and also our time of life. For women it will also relate to our menstrual cycle, the perimenopause and the menopause (and of course, men can experience the effects of these if their partner, sister, friend, or parent is suffering, as many women do), In this enlightening interview, with Inner Connection Coch Lizzy Kurtzer, we will learn more about these, how they affect us and what we can do so we work with them rather than against them. We will also demystify feminine and masculine energy which has nothing to do with whether you were born a man or a woman but everything to do with how stressed, productive, relaxed or compassionate you are. We all need a little of both: knowing when and how is an art-form. The aim of this interivew is for you to learn how to be more mindful about what cycle you are in and how to optimise your wellbeing through the changes. Enjoy! And do like and share: you never know when it will arrive at just the right time for someone. Oh, and if you haven't already, do subscribe. I put content here that are relevant to living life with more ease and less stress. How to Manage Stress: Retirement

Retirement is something many people look forward to. Often as a solution to everyday problems. A promise of freedom; of being your own boss at last; of getting up when YOU want to; of a permanent holiday free from responsibilities. But, as much as this may be appealing, there can be a huge downside: a loss of structure, identity and a change to relationships can take the shine off quicker than you think. Motivation can plummet and the dream of a happy retirement can turn into a Groundhog Day experience of daytime TV and your comfy pyjamas, leading to depression and poor health. In this interview with retirement coach Anne Cannings, we explore the highs and lows of retirement so you can navigate it with grace and ease, getting the most from this chapter in your life so that it fulfils your best hopes rather than be consumed by the question "is this it?". This interview will help you plan your future, your recalibrate the retirement you are in, depending on what you are on your journey. How to Manage Stress: Social media

Social media can be a boost to your mood and your success. But, all too often people can become a slave to it rather than have it be a resource to them. It can have a detrimental effect to productivity, mood and self-esteem. In this episode I am in conversation with business coach Susan Tomlinson who started off a sceptic, moved onto become a fan and then found herself being controlled by it until she decided to take things in hand. So how to tame the tiger that is social media? If you find yourself scrolling mindlessly and finding that you have lost time you couldn't afford, or you intended to cheer yourself up and you ended up wanting to self-medicate with a slice of cake or three, then the strategies shared here will certainly help you. Do listen right the way through - there is a powerful question towards the end that everyone needs to ask themselves to avoid being sucked into a scrolling binge. And there is also something about the unexpected gift that rationalising your social media can give you. There is something here for everyone, whether you are a business user or someone who just wants to connect with others. We would love to hear your comments about how you have been able to get a better handle on your social media, or perhaps detoxed completely. Do pease like, comment and share. How to Manage Stress: Parenting a Child with an Eating Disorder

Being a parent is one of the most stressful jobs in the world.  But not as stressful or complicated as parenting someone with an eating disorder.  I treat people with eating disorders and it is by far the most complicated and challenging condition I treat.  When it's your own child, and you are living with the consequences of the eating disorder, it takes the stress to a whole new level.  It requires a completely different type of parenting.

In this video I am in conversation with Jenny Langley whose son had anorexia at the age of 12.  She is the author of books on the subject and a lead facilitator at The Maudsley Clinic.  She not only has personal experience on the subject but is hugely knowledgeable, highly respected and runs a carer's support group.  This is a must-see video for anyone who even suspects their child has an eating disorder, or for friends or family of carer's.  It is an eye-opener.

How to Manage Stress: A Health Scare and a Break-up with Alcohol

A health scare is bad enough at the best of times.  But when you find out that alcohol - something you enjoy too much of and too often, is the cause?  Denial almost killed my guest Angus Grady who speaks honestly about how an emergency visit to A&E resulted in a 3 week stay in hospital with a life-threatening case of artrial fibrilation.  This caused his abuse of alcohol.  This made him face the truth about his problem with alcohol.  It affected his business and his relationships. And of course his health.

He has been sober now for 17 years and in this video he talks about how he achieved it and how he is a changed man - in the best of ways - because of it.  He was, as he puts it, given the gift of a new start and he wasn't going to waste it  This is a really honest, no holds barred interview from someone who had reached the bottom but made his way out.

Do comment, like and share:  you never know who else might be in denial and whose life you might save by this inspiring story.

How to Manage Stress: Suicide Prevention

I don't need to tell you how hard depression is.  Left untreated, you can start to develop thoughts about suicide.  But it does seem to be a long-term solution to a short-term problem.

Suffering in silence may seem like an option but that just makes it worse and drives the depression deeper.  If that's the case, what CAN you do to get your life back on track?

In this episode I am in conversation with life coach, international public speaker, actress, and multi-award winning voice-vibration sound healer Judith Quin who has personal experience in this.  She had what she calls a "'blip" in 2016 and reveals what led her to that place and how she got herself out.

This subject is too important to do anything other than listen carefully, absorb the important messages and to share with others.  Everybody is struggling with their private battles.  A smiling face is no evidence of all being well.  And an "I'm fine" is no indicator of things being fine at all.  Many put up a front and suffer in silence.  Be part of the solution.  Like and share.  You never know whose life it might save.
