How can we tackle the stigma and break down barriers to encourage open conversations about grief?   *Warning: this episode talks about themes of suicide and grief It is estimated that only about 30% of people actively seek professional help or counselling when dealing with grief, underscoring the need for increased awareness and support. National Grief Awareness Week encourages open discussions, education, and empathy to help individuals understand and cope with the many facets of grief. What barriers do women face in achieving workplace equality?  Welcome to the latest episode of our DC Diversity Dive, a podcast in which our Diversity and Inclusion team aim to recognise and support cultural practices and celebrations. In today’s episode, we look at Women's Equality Day, observed on August 26th in the United States to commemorate the passage of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which granted women the right to vote. The amendment was certified in August 1920, after a long and hard-fought struggle known as the women's suffrage movement. With guest speakers, Diane Eshleman, Sarah Brennan, and Lina Pinilla, we explore some of the difficulties people face and how to embody our value of ‘Be Direct’.

SAHM is a UK event that runs from 18 July to 17 August each year, and is now in its third year. It celebrates the heritage of people with roots in the eight South Asian countries of India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, and the Maldives.  With this years theme being ‘Stories to Tell’ in this episode, we look to discuss difficulties people face and how to embody our value of ‘Be Direct’, with our guest speakers, Madhvi Tailor, Pancham Taneja and Shemaly Aktar.

In this exclusive podcast episode, we discuss some of the difficulties that refugees face when forced to leave behind their homes and we hear of the personal experiences of one of our colleagues, Nael Almajzoub, who moved to the UK after having to leave his home and family due to the conflict in Syria. We look at ways we can work together and embody our values of ‘be kind’ and ‘be courageous’ as we discuss the actions that can be taken by societies, organisations and individuals to help ease the plight of refugees. Host Sarah Stears is joined by guest speakers Diane Eshleman, Nael Almajzoub, Toni Storie and Jamaal Francis for this educational and eye-opening discussion.

Pride Month embraces the diversity of this community and celebrates people’s identities. As well as reflecting on the improvements we’ve made towards equality, it also promotes awareness and education on the issues these communities still face.
