Expectations VS Reality

EXPECTATIONS VS REALITY

The entire episodes talk about how we as consumers often want quick fixes and don't understand the reasons why we need to put in effort and consistency for results to show. Without pure consistency and of course doing the right thing, no matter how much of what we do will not be beneficial to you.

It is important to note that the allied health professionals are there for a reason. They are around so as to help you alleviate issues ranging from physical, mental, nutritional, psychological etc. The list goes on. Therefore, why would we be reliant on Google as our answer if we are unsure how to fix these problems. Remember in the perspective of health and wellness.

We need to stop comparing ourselves to social media before/after, how much weight someone has lost, how people manage their stress etc. Everyone is uniquely different, and therefore takes understanding this to be able to help you. Without a clear path to breaking down this issues and finding root causes, we will often either be stuck or reverse back into our old self or bounce back even harder.

Warming Up in Dance

Often times a very touchy and debatable topic. We often hear many dance teachers saying they know what they are doing so don't teach me but yet we see so much injuries occurring due to warm ups not being sufficient or effective for the dancers.

This episode is a sharing for our dance listeners that need to know this. Warming up doesn't mean holding a few stretches and get right onto the dance floor and begin dancing. There is a method to the madness in warming up and emphasis should be placed on it.

Have a listen to this episode and do share it with your friends!

4 Years On!

HOW AFRAID ARE YOU OF SHARING ABOUT FAILURE & LESSONS?

Perhaps, this podcast will help you to be more motivated to fail and learn. I (Emile) has had his fair share of failures and lessons throughout the 4 years of running a fitness and wellness business. While, to some it may look like a dying businesses or the entirety of the industry seems to be focused on the hyped up version of fitness. There are many opportunities if we look clearly enough but before we do that, how sure are we about our own business?

Do we know our vision clearly?

Why are we starting this business for?

Is the business a Founder oriented business?

Have we experienced failures before?

Many more questions. But through that, we begin to see the true growth potential because without failing we don't learn. Without learning, we don't have new ideas or better ways of doing things. Thus, I dare you to go out and do it and learn to fail to succeed!

The Landscape of Sports in Singapore

In this episode, we ask that you take everything with a pinch of salt.

While we do agree, there are alot that can be done to improve the sports system from the grassroots to professional landscape of Singapore. It is also important to note, that athletes in Singapore often do not get paid even at the national level.

Due to a certain carding system and of course lack of support in athlete development. You may agree to disagree or like to discuss with us how you think the system can be better!

This episode is an honest take on sports, with athletes we shall not name for confidentiality purposes! Listen in and let us know what you think!

Interview with Andrea, Founder of The Clean Addicts.

Raw Chef Andrea Lee is the ultimate Addict to clean treats!

The Clean Addicts – Wholefoods Bakery started with Andrea’s Mum who suffered from clogged arteries and had to be sent to the hospital for surgery. Seeing her fragile state, this incident caused her to switch to a healthier lifestyle overnight.

She believes how food can be our medicine, but it wasn't an easy feat.

It was difficult to compromise her love for desserts! Andrea always had a hard time finding healthier alternatives that contain minimal ingredients, and no preservatives or refined sugars in Singapore.

After countless of late night experimentations, she managed to produce wholesome and guilt-free versions of brownies and cakes that her family and friends can't resist!

She uses real whole foods for her desserts, such as nuts, beans, rolled oats and even sweet potatoes that come with a myriad of health benefits that are filling and natural sweeteners like dates and stevia that are low on the Glycemic Index.

With Clean Addicts’ cakes, you can say goodbye to crazy sugar rushes from conventional cakes which contain cups and cups of icing sugar!

Andrea went on to exploring more about Raw food and became obsessed.

She is a certified Raw Food Chef with certifications from leading vegan culinary school — Matthew Kenney Culinary Academy and Sayuri Healing Foods.

She specialises in fermented foods and “cheesecakes" made with no cheese or added sugars! She also loves experimenting with cake flavours (watch out for our seasonal flavours) and feeding her loved ones with healthy desserts that she whips up.

Through The Clean Addicts, Andrea strives to share that healthful treats can be tasty and DO NOT have to taste like cardboard. Clean eating with natural wholefoods can be addictive and good for the body!

Eat and Feel Good with us. Be a Clean Addict!

Cold and Warm Bathe. Is There Really a Scientific Difference?

IS THERE REALLY A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ICE AND WARM BATHES?

Yes there is! Imagine showering in freezing cold and very warm water. The differences are huge! If that is the case then you should know that these differences can also be applied to within your body system. The body not only reacts on the surface but under your skin as well.

By understanding the mechanisms of each. You'll have a better understanding of what works best for you and why you should use it. You should not take everything seen online or on Google as 100% right! Always do your research to find out why it is done that way and is it beneficial for you!

Any Supporting Evidence about Sports Massage?

A question asked by @jarsetynn about efficacy of Sports Massage and to provide evidence to support it.

At this point in the research world, there isn’t much done toward looking deep into sports massage and it’s sub-types.

E.g. For sports massage alone if you break it down. It can be broken into effleurage, petrissage, cross-friction and tapotement and it’s various other sub-categories.

Also, much of the research done are quantitative not qualitative which can also be subjective based on external factors causing answers to vary in questionnaires.

With that being said, bias in research can occur if it isn’t a neutral party.

Discussion on "Bret Contreras vs Naudi Aguilar" Debate

HOW MUCH DO WE UNDERSTAND OUR BODY?

Today, we discuss about the debate between Bret Contreras and Naudi Aguilar, their practices which we'll touch a little bit on and how it can be of benefit to you. At the same time the other view points of how it may also affect you if not done properly.

These is for anyone that wants to understand a little bit better what was discussed and if you believe in their practice to be able to also question it a little bit more without just purely accepting it as fact. Yes, they have done pretty impressive research. We don't look down on that, in fact even more motivated by it.

We would love to have a podcast interview with both of them one day too! Cause they are individuals that have thoughts similar to us and would definitely want to shake up the industry. To make change, we need to have ideas and methods that can create this change.

Have a listen and do share your thoughts with us!

A Brief Conversation Between A Physiotherapist & Chiropractor

MANY DIFFERENT ASSUMPTIONS WHEN WE HEAR PHYSIOTHERAPIST AND/OR CHIROPRACTOR!

What does each professional really do in their own line or work? What assumptions are there when it comes to rehabilitation?

Do you know if you should be going to a Physiotherapist or Chiropractor?

Or do you simply have no idea which you should be going to because you don't what they actually do?

Just to make it a little tougher!

There are other professionals in the medical industries above and beyond these two professions.

To better understand why sometimes it isn't simply just deciding to go to one and not both is a simple case bad education, marketing that throws you off making good decisions and of course the quacks out there that basically causes the industry to be tarnished or frowned upon. With any professions, there will always be bad apples.

Have a listen to better understand the similarities and differences and also the knowledge that each professional has. Always ask questions before committing to any form of rehabilitative service. Know what you are getting into and what you'll be getting out of it. Why? You paid money for it and deserve far more than you think you should be getting.

2019 - Year of #truth

We Have A Problem When Dealing With Information!

We tend to like to stick to our bubbles or only ask when required if not we'll simply copy or follow or like or love! As seen in the boom of the Instagram celebrities and Youtubers whom do exercises that can be simply replicated a thousand times over. But there is a missing area that is rarely touched upon which is to deal with educating the mass public about how to really deal with problems in exercise, diets, nutrition and basic functional based movements.

Very often, we like to stick to what is COOL or HIP in the industry. Often, the more POPS or DOPE it is in the industry. The more you see people gravitating toward it. Not knowing fully what it is really about. For one, everything we see in the industry of fitness now is either stuck of the AESTHETICS or to have SWEAT!

It is almost madness to believe that by simply looking good and having a sweat that you are essentially a much healthier person! That assumption alone needs to be smashed because it isn't!

Fitness Unplugged
Multidisciplinary Model of Professionals in Fitness & Wellness

Why Is This An Important Topic?

One big reason is because without clear directions and knowledge imparted to an athlete that seeks help from many different professionals in the industry or for their sport. There can be a knock on effect of consistently bad results and sometimes even athletes dropping out from their own sports. Why? A big role playing into this is the egoistical mindsets and many greying areas seen within professionals in this industry.

Without good deliberation and separation or collaboration between roles and how one can help the athlete. It will naturally take a toll not only on the athlete but on the professionals themselves that will need to deal with politics and constant problems arising. One should not place ones rice bowl above and beyond the athlete because without the athlete as your first priority, you'll naturally not have that rice bowl anymore.

Proper education and management for an athlete or client is important. Thus, knowing what you are focused on and skillsets that can benefit them is key to figuring out this problem which has been around for the longest time! Meanwhile, enjoy this episode and follow us on our Facebook & Instagram for more informative and educational materials.

Is Body Mass Index (BMI) the Gold Standard?

Body Mass Index (BMI) has been a highly discussed subject in Singapore which is still used in hospitals and organisations. These which needs changing because the accuracy of these measurements does not always provide effective data for use.

Also, as it is also used in certain organisations where stewardesses and stewards are selected on their aesthetics and how they look and must strictly fall into the range of BMI. To us it is literally borderline body shaming and it not only makes one feel that you aren't good enough because you do fall within the range or the aesthetic.

With these issues stemming from BMI, the need to end the use of it and moving on the gold standard of measurements which is hydrostatic measurements. It will only improve the quality of data rather than assuming one is fat or too thin. Thus, it will need much that needs to be done by regulatory organisations.

What is HIIT?

What actually is HIIT?

The reason for the obsession with HIIT is how the fitness industry markets HIIT as time-saving and a good fat-burning tool. But do you know the history behind HIIT and why it is or who it is created for?

It is scientifically proven that the higher the intensity of the exercise, the more carbohydrates you will burn. Vice versa, the lower the intensity of the exercise. the more fat you will burn. However, the idea that lies with HIIT is that it provides long Excess Post-exercise Oxygen Consumption (EPOC) which burns fats during the process. But it's not all about the EPOC. Listen to find out more about what we have to say about HIIT, EPOC, working out and more.

With that, enjoy the podcast and share it with the world. An important topic that needs sharing!
