Joining on this episode is none other than the amazingly sweet Blien aka Billy! Blien joins us all the way from Kentucky and shares the beautiful story of how she formed a sisterhood with Zu over the years starting with Twitter. Billy shared in Zu's ambitious personality pursuing her degree in Computer Science while working, and advocating for Tigray. She has an absolutely beautiful and kind spirit in the way she cares for others, and constantly promotes positivity. So appreciative of her coming on to share her light with us, and honor Zu with us all.
In this special season of Uprooted, we are honoring our beautiful sister Zuher Ibrahim who passed away on April 24, 2022. Zu was such a light, and champion in this world that her impact has been felt globally amongst her family, friends, peers, and community. She taught us so much and gave us everything she had so in that spirit we are honoring her legacy by continuing our plans to produce her own show, Summer with Zu. Before her sudden passing, we had been planting the seed to produce a segment specifically for Zu to 'educate and empower' people, especially in human rights and politics which were her specialties, and even before that she'd recommend amazing people to the show. So in that spirit, I have invited those folks to join me in uplifting her legacy, and to share this healing space as we figure out life moving forward 💜

Since Zu's passing, she rallied along with the Tri-State Tegaru Professional Network & greater community to celebrate the homegoing and now 1st annual Zu Day on July 30th in New York City. This week marks the end of one season and a transition into the next. As we reflected on how we spent our time last week in our Create Your Joy course, I noticed more anxiety and tension in my energy. I found myself needing to do a lot of deep breathing as I deal with the push and pull of the old me fighting the new me.
We are hard-wired as humans to avoid too much change for our safety. So we can expect a level of resistance and need to have our toolkits stacked with love and support through the transition.
For me, it’s remembering my loved ones and filling my time with good books, music, food, and laughs. Anytime I start to get overwhelmed I remember I’m not alone and to reach out my hand for the love I need and count my breaths to remember who I am.
Love you all, be kind to each other through this transition period. We are all trying to figure it out.
Yo, closing out the season of #BlackMenSpeakSundays is our new podcast friend Mozo! We are so happy to share space with another community builder and healer for the first generation. It was so dope to see the parallels across our Dominican and Tigrayan backgrounds and the generational changes we are making as bridge builders. Absolutely, loved this convo, and can’t wait to see how “Watch Yo Mouth with Mozo Podcast” grow!

A little surprise from down under this week for #BlackWomenWednesday 😊 My girl Betty, representing Perth, Australia, came back to the show to shed more light on who she is behind the advocacy. I loved all the truths she shared and the beautiful reminder that we’re all still figuring it out.

Happy #ManifestMonday y’all. Today’s topic of time management is probably top 3 skills to ‘Create Your Joy’ and everyone’s frenemy 🤣
What we all know is that time is not in our control and as such is one of the most valuable things. That can feel very daunting to us humans with this incessant desire to be in control. The only thing we can ever truly control is OURSELVES. So the option here is to learn to manage our time. Master your day and the rest will become clear.
Here are my tips on this:
1.) Track yourself for 7 days breaking down every minute of the 24hrs.
2.) Look for patterns or areas where your time and energy are sucked.
3.) Reset your daily agenda/routines accordingly.
4.) Remember to give yourself flexible time for life to happen.
*Bonus: track your mood and energy level to set up new boundaries for yourself.
