What Hiking Taught Me [Solo #2] | S02E02

Get ready because in this episode, I’m going to take you to the mountains! I decided to share the lessons I learned from hiking after sitting down and processing the whole experience.

So if you’ve been hiking, you might be able to relate to some of the scenarios but if you’ve never hiked before, that's okay. But I suggest that you give it a try. The scenery and the experience are more than enough to compensate for the body ache you'll feel right after.

10 Lessons From 10 Episodes [Solo #1] | S02E01

Hey everyone, we're back for Season 2! It has been a long break but still a well-spent one. I used it to rest and recharge para ready na for another season with a lot of changes. One feedback that I got is wala daw akong solo episode kaya naman this one is for the listeners na nagrequest. This is my very first solo episode, compiling the 10 Lessons from the 10 Episodes of season 1.

It's a break from the usual interview-type and something that I enjoyed doing. May lesson bang nag resonate sainyo? Let me know!

EP10 - Purposeful Finance ft. Jay Tolentino

They say money is not the most important thing in this world, but it affects everything that is important, and in the process of learning and earning, we can easily have a mindset that is so focused on money. That is why we are dedicating this episode to the topic of not just finance but purposeful finance. In this episode, we will be talking about why everything must be rooted in purpose.

This is one of the topics that I wish was taught in school kasi it’s really crucial for us to have that knowledge in money otherwise, no matter how big our income is, if we don’t know how to manage it, we might still end up broke.

For this episode, I am joined by another good friend of mine, Jay Tolentino. “Kuya Jay” is a Financial Literacy Evangelist and an Independent Financial Planner based in Dubai. He holds certifications from multiple awarding bodies, such as the Chartered Insurance Institute UK (CII) Associate Financial Planner (AFP) and Registered Financial Planner (RFP). Last year, he was given the Excellence Award in Insurance & Other Financial Services by the Filipino Social Club as part of the celebration of Philippine Independence Day.

Also last August 2020, he was invited to speak in Congress to represented the sentiments of many OF’s regarding the mandatory 3% contribution being asked by Philhealth. Lastly, he is the host of Finance Fridays, and Real Talk On Real Estate thru his Purpose Driven Finance FB page & YT channel, which can also be streamed on Pera & Purpose Podcast.

EP09 - Making Better Decisions ft. Dr. Ben Lebig Jr.

Curious to find out if there's a framework for making better decisions?

That's the main highlight for today's episode. You see, we make decisions every day but not all decisions are equally important. Some are life-altering, some are low-impact and some of those don’t even matter at all as you’ll realize later in the episode. The combination of those decisions we’ve made, whether good or bad has shaped us the way we are today.

Today's guest is someone who I believed made a series of good decisions and is a very active member of the Filipino Community here in the UAE. Dr. Ben Lebig Jr. recently obtained his Ph.D. in Strategy and International Business from King’s College London, United Kingdom. He also has 2 Master's Degree, one from the University of the Philippines and the other from Manchester Business School. In addition to that, he's also the recipient of multiple awards in the Filipino Community such as the Dakilang Bayani Award 2016 and Kabayan Outstanding Filipino Awardee. Currently, he's the Corporate Business Planner covering 5 regions for Chevron Corporation.

Topics Covered:

1. Some of Dr. Ben's biggest decisions

2. Some of his bad decisions

3. Framework for better decisions

4. What hinders us from making better decisions

Timestamp:

05:07 – Beginning of Journey

15:07 – Iceberg Theory

17:06 – Major Decisions

35:18 – Framework for better decisions

52:46 – Is there a guarantee for good decisions

1:00:49 – Bad decisions

1:08:25 – Things that hinder better decisions

EP07 - Thinking Unconventionally ft. Ian Dilla

"The key to success is to risk thinking unconventional thoughts. Convention is the enemy of progress." - Trevor Baylis

This episode is about thinking unconventionally, which refers to the kind of thinking that is challenging the status quo. It’s looking at the world not using the same lens as everybody. It’s something that we can practice because if all of us are thinking in the same way, then there would be no new ideas or innovation. And the best kind of innovation is the one that happens within us.

Ian Dilla is the founder of The Writing Movement and one of the head coaches of Passionate Creators. One of his missions is to help people bring their ideas into writing.

EP06 - Growth Mindset and Productivity Tips ft. Jessie Quintilla

"Love challenges, be intrigued by mistakes, enjoy effort, and keep on learning." - Carol Dweck

This week's episode is about developing a growth mindset. The reason why I think it’s very relevant is that it helps you change the way you think and how you view the world around you. Having a growth mindset highlights the importance of continuous learning and believing that if you put in enough effort, you will improve over time. To discuss the topic, I invited one of my mentors who really taught me valuable lessons in life.

Jessie Quintilla is an Associate Director of AES International. She is a chartered member of the CIPD, the Co-founder and Managing Director of Entrepinoy FZE and Pentaglobal HR Solutions. She is also the Managing Director of Vistaland Dubai, and one of the Advisors of the Filipino HR Practitioners Association.
