When the topic of the 2024 Election comes up Black women have been bracing for impact. Will we be subjected to hairbrained ideas explaining the results? Or will we be forced to sooth our co-workers as they process the “ish” we already knew; this country is a terrible place for marginalized people, especially Black women. A study by the University of Colorado estimates a 24% increase in maternal deaths if the United States bans abortion federally. They predicted the increase would be even higher for Black patients, at 39%. While your co-workers look for comfort you remember we are not new to this, we’re true to this. Black women create hope for our communities, and others, when the future looks bleak. Join Asiah (@issaraeof_ny), & Amber (@Not_therealamberworsley ) as we unpack election results with activist Brittany Brathwaite, and discuss what's to come and breathe hope into some scarry results.

When Black women are healers it’s not only seen as illegitimate but “wicked.” With the rise of social media and “Insta-doctors” sharing information such as herbs, and other medicinal tools, has become rampant. Therefore we re-enter an age where empowered women of color are questioned and feared. This has happened before. In 1962 Tituba Indian, a slave of west Indian descent was accused of witchcraft and set off the Salem witch trials. How does the woo’woo witch hunt affect modern herbalists creating businesses that aim to heal? Italy Bianca, is a self proclaimed medicine “wombman” who through positivity and light aims to help women reach physical and spiritual healing. Join Asiah (@issaraeof_ny), & Amber (@Not_therealamberworsley ) as we unpack modern alternative healing and the history that stigmatizes this work.

It’s ghetto here on planet earth. With deliberating climate change, our rights being attacked at every corner, and ridiculous presidential debates it makes sense to feel powerless this election season. To add insult to injury, although our ancestors fought for the right to cast a ballot here we are being pressured about who to vote for. I mean we don’t want a felon in office? But Kamala didn’t win your vote did she? Well what about third parties? Despite the overall sound of Lauryn Hill in the background singing, “nothing even matters,” this election is indeed important. It’s important that you show up to the polls, with a strategy for everything that's on the ballot. Never fear. Join Asiah and Amber for this very special Episode of The Audacity. Listen in on our conversation with social media sensation Nikita Redkar as we talk through voter apprehension and help you leave with a new voting strategy for your life.

On July 6th, 2024 Sonya Massey called the police to her home in fear of a home intruder. Body cam footage spread all over the internet of her last moments. We watched her call out the true demon in her home, and that principality ended her life and disrespected her body. This word gives us the ick, but here on the Audacity Podcast, we are triggered. Many black women facing racial trauma are living in a prolonged state of PTSD. No matter where we are, our worlds aren’t safe from microaggressions or even physical violence. No matter how safe we try to feel, our bodies keep the “score.” What do we do when we are triggered? With the help of Krystal Miller (@Melanated_Masks), a licensed mental health worker and integrative mental health practitioner, we will be unpacking just that. Join Asiah (@issaraeof_ny), & Amber (@Not_therealamberworsley ) during this heartfelt conversation about trauma in your body and find a new healing strategy for your life.

Amanda Seales shocked the world when she revealed that she recently received an autism diagnosis. Amongst the Black community Autism Spectrum Disorder is rarely talked about, unless you count derogatory descriptions of neurodivergence. Such as your dad whispering in your ear that a distant cousin is “slow.” Despite the stigma within the community, research tells us 3% Of Black, Asian, and Hispanic children are diagnosed with autism. This is the biggest the autism rates in these communities have ever gotten, but we know that’s not the full story… Asiah (@issaraeof_ny), & Amber (@Not_therealamberworsley ) sat down with Jennifer Saint-Fort, an established ethical fashion designer based in Colorado, to unpack how hard it is to even get an autism diagnosis, simply due to your race, gender, and background. Through her brand you learn that young, autistic, black, and gifted, also looks sexy, confident, and aspirational.

We know, you know, a person who has turned away from Western medicine. This friend may be labeled as a bit too “woo woo” but they always had the strategy, and just the right tea, to get your life straight. Amongst all the information available it’s hard to distinguish some helpful health notes from real medicine. Dr. Danett Bean (@drdanett_bean) has devoted her life to research proven Eastern medicine and uses ancient Asian medical practices to heal women at all stages of life. Join Asiah (@issaraeof_ny), & Amber (@Not_therealamberworsley ) as we speak with Dr. Bean about postpartum care and what we don’t talk about when it comes to the 4th trimester and beyond. Whether you are a parent or not, you may still find a new healing strategy for your life.

*Trigger warning this episode unpacks the topic of abortion.
In the inaugural episode of this podcast Asiah (@issaraeof_ny), & Amber (@Not_therealamberworsley ) unpack the first steps to healing your body and spoiler alert; it all starts with your mind. For Black women the joy of motherhood has always been tainted with societal expectations for mothers that root back to the days of slavery. Such as being an all caring mammy or disappearing into motherhood as a martyr. Ambreia Meadows-Fernandez had the audacity to want something different for her and other mothers like her. On her platform Free Black Motherhood she creates space for mothers to explore the realities of motherhood and celebrates the many different ways black women nurture children as well as work to destigmatize and release us from the wounds of motherhood with martyrdom. During this conversation we unpack her journey to releasing shame and experiencing all life has to offer.
What is The Audacity Podcast? For real though, The Audacity to do what?!? Let's get into the nitty gritty of The Audacity and how we hope to set you free. Join Asiah (@issaraeof_ny), & Amber (@Not_therealamberworsley ) as they sit down with radical women and give you a new healing strategy.
Where would we be without the audacious hopes, dreams, and prayers of Black women? Modern gynecology was built off of the torture of black women and when we look at the statistics we can see the medical apartheid towards us has done nothing but change shape. Black women have a 53 percent higher risk of dying in a hospital setting during childbirth, regardless of income level, insurance type, or any other social driver of health. We have suffered more from vitamin D Deficiency. We are dismissed as angry and attitudinal when we are depressed. The facts and figures seem hopeless but how do we begin to finally talk about solutions? The past has shown us that change starts with the brave work of imagining a better life. Black women, with audacity, imagined freedom when it was nothing but a fairy tale. The Audacity is a podcast centering the ideas of Black women, working on the front lines imagining, a better standard of health for us. Through this podcast, I hope we find a network of healing strategies for Black women.
Here’s a little sneak peak on what to expect this season.
