94. Feeling Unheard...How Self-Worth Shapes Your Voice and Your Leadership

🎙️ EPISODE 93: Feeling Unheard — How Self-Worth Shapes Your Voice and Your Leadership💬 Episode Summary

Have you ever felt like your words just… disappear?
Do you feel like you speak up, but no one really hears you?

In this powerful episode, Diane Gudmundson unpacks the deep psychology behind feeling unheard — and how it often has more to do with our own sense of self-worth than with other people.

Whether you’re a leader in healthcare, a manager in business, or someone navigating your own personal healing, this episode will help you recognize how past experiences can silence your voice — and how reclaiming it transforms everything from your relationships to your leadership presence.

This isn’t just another conversation about communication.
It’s a journey into self-trust, emotional safety, and the courage to finally believe: my voice matters.

– Why feeling unheard is an identity-level wound, not a personality flaw
– How early experiences shape the way you speak, listen, and lead
– Three real-world stories that show how unhealed patterns play out in leadership
– The energy of being heard: how self-worth shapes presence and influence
– The connection between listening, healing, and leadership transformation
– Three simple practices to rebuild your voice and your confidence

  • The need to be heard is primal — it’s about safety, not ego.

  • When you don’t value your voice, you unconsciously teach others to undervalue it too.

  • The leaders who listen deeply are the ones who’ve learned to feel safe in their own truth.

  • Your voice is medicine — not because it’s loud, but because it’s real.

👉 Go back and listen to Episode 92: “Listening Is a Superpower (And Most Leaders Fail at It)” — a powerful companion to this one.
Together, these two episodes form the foundation for building trust, communicating with impact, and leading from authenticity — not performance.

93. 3 Things I Wish I was Told Before Becoming a Healthcare Leader

🎙️ Episode 93: What No One Told Me When I Became a Leader

No one really prepares you for what leadership feels like.

You can read all the books, take the courses, and master your job — but the moment you step into leadership, everything shifts.
You’re no longer just responsible for tasks… you’re responsible for people.
And that means energy, emotions, and expectations — including your own.

In this episode, I open up about what I wish someone had told me when I first became a leader.
You’ll learn the hidden truths about leadership no one talks about — and how to stop leading from exhaustion and start leading from alignment.

  • Why leadership exposes every place you still need to heal

  • How your energy, not your control, determines team performance

  • The real reason trying to “have all the answers” burns leaders out

  • How to lead from curiosity instead of perfection

  • Why leadership is one of the fastest paths to personal growth and transformation

Whether you’re leading a clinic, a department, or a business — the inner work of leadership is the same.
This episode is your invitation to see leadership not as a job title… but as a mirror.

Because the truth is: you can’t lead others from a place you haven’t yet led yourself.

“Leadership isn’t about control — it’s about coherence. When you walk into a room grounded and aligned, people don’t just hear you… they feel you.”

92. Listening is a superpower (and most leaders fail at this)

🎧 Episode 92: Listening is a Superpower (and Most Leaders Fail at It)

Most leaders believe they’re great listeners — but here’s the truth: most are only half-present.
They’re thinking, fixing, or formulating their next response instead of truly hearing.

In this powerful episode, Diane Gudmundson — transformational leadership coach and founder of the Health Warrior Method™ — reveals why genuine listening is the missing ingredient in transformational leadership (and in life).

You’ll discover:

  • The real reason most leaders fail at listening — and how it quietly destroys trust.

  • A true story from Diane’s Nurse Practitioner on Wheels journey that changed everything.

  • Why presence is not proximity — and how “busy listening” keeps us disconnected.

  • What true listening feels like — and how it transforms relationships, teams, and self-leadership.

This isn’t about being quiet.
It’s about being open.
Because listening is where real transformation begins — for you, your team, and the systems you lead.

91. Why achieving more will never be enough

🎙 Show Notes — Episode 91

Title: Why Achieving More Will Never Be Enough

High achievers pride themselves on reaching the next milestone. The degree. The title. The revenue goal.

But here’s the hard truth: no matter how much you achieve, it will never feel like enough.

Because external achievement can’t fill an internal gap.

In this episode of Survival to Success, I share my own stories — from climbing the ladder in healthcare to chasing shiny objects in business — and the powerful lesson I learned: fulfillment doesn’t come from “more.” It comes from alignment.

  • Why the high of achievement fades so quickly.

  • The endless cycle of “achieve → empty → chase again.”

  • My story of chasing goals in healthcare and in business — and what finally shifted.

  • The truth about why achievement without alignment always feels hollow.

90. Surrender vs Control - which do YOU choose?

Title: Surrender Isn’t Weak — It’s the Most Powerful Move You Can Make

High achievers are told that strength comes from control. Work harder. Push longer. Grip tighter.

But the truth? The tighter you grip, the more you lose.

In this episode of Survival to Success, I open up about one of the scariest decisions of my life — walking away from a secure nurse practitioner job to launch NP on Wheels. Everyone thought it was crazy. I thought it was terrifying. But that surrender didn’t make me weak. It gave me back my power.

If you’ve ever felt like you’re holding everything together and it’s draining the life out of you… this episode is for you.

  • Why surrender is the doorway to peace, clarity, and freedom.

  • The truth about control (and why it always backfires).

  • My story of leaving a secure career to create NP on Wheels.

  • How surrender can become your most powerful move.

89. The lie of willpower…and what actually creates change

Title: The Lie of Willpower (and What Actually Creates Change)

High achievers love to believe discipline is the answer.
Push harder. Try again. Use more willpower.

But here’s the truth no one tells you: willpower always fails. Identity always wins.

In this episode of Survival to Success, I pull back the curtain on the biggest lie high achievers have been sold. I share personal stories from my own health journey, career, and business to show why white-knuckling your way forward never works — and what actually creates lasting transformation.

👉 If you’ve ever wondered why you can’t “stick with it” no matter how hard you try, this episode will hit home.

  • Why willpower only works short-term — and why it always runs out.

  • The truth about identity and why it always wins.

  • My personal stories of chasing success with willpower (and how it failed).

  • The one shift that changes everything and makes lasting transformation possible.

88. Why Your Old Self is Sabotaging Your Future.

🎙 Episode 88: Why Your Old Self Is Sabotaging Your Future

Most high achievers don’t fail because they’re lazy.
They fail because they’re dragging their old self into their future.

In this episode of Survival to Success, I unpack why the identity that got you here is the very thing holding you back from going further.

Here’s what you’ll discover:

  • The hidden ways your “old self” sabotages your growth (even when you’re working hard)

  • The truth about why restlessness and burnout aren’t about doing too much — they’re about being someone you’ve outgrown

  • The pivotal moment when I realized the “old Diane” couldn’t create the life I wanted

This one is for every achiever who’s checked the boxes, hit the goals, but still feels stuck.

Because here’s the truth:
👉 You can’t build a new life with the old you.

87. Why "Trying" is the Biggest Lie You Have Been Sold.

🎙 Episode 3: Why “Trying” Is the Biggest Lie You’ve Been Sold

You’ve been told your whole life: “Just try harder.”
But what if that’s the very thing keeping you stuck?

In this episode of Survival to Success, I share the raw truth about why “trying” nearly broke me in both healthcare and business — and the powerful shift that finally set me free.

Here’s what you’ll hear:

  • The hidden cost of “trying harder” that nobody talks about

  • The scariest decision I ever made — and why it changed everything

  • How overachievers accidentally trap themselves in endless “trying” mode

86. Pushing Through - The Hidden Costs you are Blind to!

Episode Summary:
In this episode of Survival to Success, we’re diving into the quiet, dangerous cost of “pushing through” when your body, mind, or spirit is begging you to stop. High achievers wear perseverance like a badge of honour — but what’s the toll when we ignore the warning signs?

I share my own personal moments of hitting the wall, the subtle cues that signalled I was heading for burnout, and the lessons I learned about listening to my body’s wisdom. We’ll talk about why “powering through” feels noble — but often comes at the expense of your health, relationships, and even your long-term success.

In This Episode, You’ll Learn:

  • The hidden costs of ignoring your body’s need for rest.

  • How overachievement can quietly erode your health and joy.

  • Three simple ways to recognize when you’re running on empty.

  • What to do instead of pushing harder.

If you’ve ever said “I just need to get through this week” (and then said it again the next week), this episode is your permission slip to stop, reset, and choose a more sustainable path.

85. Why Success Feels Empty...and what to do about it

Why Success Feels Empty (And What to Do About It)

You’ve worked your whole life to get here — the title, the income, the recognition.
From the outside, you’ve made it.

But inside? It feels… hollow.

In this new season 3 episode of Survival to Success, I’m sharing my raw, personal story of hitting “success” twice in my life — first in my career as a Nurse Practitioner, and later as a new entrepreneur — and realizing that neither brought me the fulfillment I thought they would.

We’ll explore:

  • Why external success can still feel empty

  • How being “out of alignment” quietly drains your energy and joy

  • The two biggest wake-up calls that made me completely rethink my definition of success

  • A simple reflection exercise to help you reconnect with what actually matters to you

If you’ve ever looked around at the life you’ve built and wondered, “Is this it?” — you are not alone.
And this conversation might be the first breadcrumb back to your true self.

42. What is my “best life” after burning the past?
This episode was inspired by me asking myself the question of “what does my best life look like?” I was met with some surprising thoughts and realize that when we evaluate what our best life looks like, we often will reflect on our past history to define what that would beHi however, I have burnt down my past life and so, even though I’m in Mexico, it’s not like being on a week or two holiday where are you can just have extreme fun and experiences and then go back to your usual routine, because I have no routine to go back to.This opened up my eyes and allowed me to see just how much past history influences our decisions and influences the way we treat ourselves and our perceptions of who and what we should beAgain, asking the question about what my best life looks like, it’s something that’s open ended and something that I will be processing over the next while because I don’t even really know what that answer isThank you for listening to this episode and I hope to have an opportunity to help you to really tap in to your confidence and capabilities so that you can live whatever you perceive as your best life without the past or others expectations having an influence over youThank you for listening to this episode and please feel free to email me at support@dianegudmundson.com if you’re interested in booking a consultation to peel back the layers and determine what is stopping you forgetting to your point B in life?

41. What is “success” to you?
It kind of blew me away this morning when my mentor was talking about the definition of success. In the past, success was all about achievements and material things. I evolved that to success meaning freedom… However, I had my eyes opened even further this morning when it came down to what success truly is. I see it now as having true peace and well-being as what success truly is. Being peaceful and feeling great 24 hours a day and not being triggered, or having negative emotions. And even if I do have some negative emotions, I’m able to allow myself to feel them and allow them to flow through me and not hang around. What does success mean to you? 40. I am back and living into possibility!
After a short pause to reflect on my life and to make some serious changes, I am back and truly living into possibility. I have peeled back so many layers down to my authentic self, and have discovered my inner power, my inner confidence, and the ability to live my life as myself and not according to the expectations of others. Remembering of course, that all of what I believed was an illusion. It is a interpretation and a creation in my own mind as to what others expectations are. Imagine living an entire lifetime according to what you think people expect of you when you don’t even really know and those expectations may not even be there?!?Moving forward in my life, burning down my current life and moving to Mexico is what I’ve been up to and I speak about it in this episode. To find out more information and if you have any questions or would like to work with me please email me at support@dianegudmundson.com. 39. Hmm, do I lack confidence? Yes!
Oh boy, so many years I went through struggle and thinking that I was a confident person and not even noticing that I had neglected so many other areas of my life that when things started to open up for me then I really discovered that there was multiple areas in my life that I did not feel capable in. When we over focus on things that we are an expert in, we often neglect other areas of our life then leading to sometimes irruption‘s, or hidden blocks of not being able to achieve things and not realizing why. It can be so sneaky and a person may not even be aware that it’s going on and that was me… I had no insight into myself whatsoever!‘s. I spoke a lot more about my personal story on the last podcast, but I do emphasize a lot of that again today and I also go through the eight different areas of life that it is important to pay attention to for each of us because each area can become depleted if we don’t give it the attention it deserves. !!Thank you so much for listening, and I will see you on the next episode

38. My vulnerable confidence story
Our childhood experiences can shape our energetics and subconscious mind development in disempowering ways and can lead us to live out those stories and beliefs about our self perpetually throughout our life and we are blind to what is deep in the subconscious mind. I lived a life of this for over 40 years and essentially it was like being addicted to struggle and not even being aware of it. I was overworking, workaholic, and needing external validation to prove that I was worth something. This resulted in success because I had so many multiple degrees and worked very hard to advocate for people to show that I was worth something. External validation does nothing for our worthiness and our self-love and our sense of feeling capable in the world. After spending 30 years and multiple thousands trying to feel better, I finally discovered transformational coaching and Hipnosis, which was the magic that finally transformed my life. I am so ecstatic and happy and passionate that I have discovered this for myself so that now I can offer this kind of service to other people. This is my mission and this is what I meant for and I can feel it deep to my core. The next episode, I will talk about the various areas of life and how confidence in any of those areas can impact the other since we are one being after all. Thank you so much for listening I appreciate you so much, and I will see you on the next episode

37. Are you run by your Emotions?
Oh boy, I remember the days where I was totally run by my emotions. I was impatient and angry and always in a rush and people were constantly triggering me. I was living by convenience and making choices and decisions based on emotions which was not healthy. I had fears of abandonment and I was reacting and kicking people out of my life and I really had been living and run by my emotions and taking things personally and it was really no way to live. Once I got some transformational coaching and started to realize how the emotions from my past were running my life from the backseat then I realized how it all came down to managing my thoughts and interpretations. By using a transformational coach I was able to explore my thoughts and interpretations and my eyes were truly opened as to where all of this shit was coming from. By combining hypnotherapy and transformational coaching, it is the magic and rocket fuel for your transformation that speeds things up allows you to Feel and experience life in a positive way instead of having your emotions run you. 36. Why I became a Hypnotist
I was inspired to record this originally on a video because I was getting so many strange comments about what a hypnotist really was and I realize that there was a lot of confusion about it. I became a hypnotist because I realize that going through hypnosis was a dramatic transformation for me and I was able to peel back the subconscious programming to discover more and more of what my true self is composed of. Limitations and having limiting beliefs about yourself and doubting yourself and not trusting yourself and not loving yourself all results from subconscious programming from our past. This can be reprogrammed using Hipnosis and puts transformation on steroids! I’m calling my new service Transformational Hypnotherapy and it is absolutely rocket fuel to speed up transformation and to get the results you’re looking for in your life. It is a unique service they really dig deep into that your identity and then peels away the beliefs and thoughts to get in the way of being the identity that you want to be in order to achieve your goals. 35. Discipline = self-worth meter
Discipline was such a harsh and negative word for me for so many years. Yes I did exercise and do things, but the energy behind it was very negative, pressured, and felt hard (ooh the struggle!). Once I was able to shift my discovery of the root cause of my struggles, my life changed dramatically. Self love, self worth and self value and deservingness for care was it!! I learned how to reframe this word into devotion which felt softer and less punishing for me. I was also able to live into a new identity and learn new perceptions and meanings of things. This led to feeling positively accomplished and boosted my motivation big time and transformed my life. Reframing thoughts and beliefs about yourself are a foundational concept of the reset for life program which is my passion! 34. Don’t Overfeed your Machine
Oh boy, I remember back to those days where I had such an unhealthy relationship with food and I even had bulimic tendencies in my early adulthood. I was able to get over those tendencies, but I still had a very unhealthy love-hate relationship with food. I over thought it and I over complicated it and I spent way too much time worried about it and working on it and thinking about it. It just took away from my life on so many levels and once I discovered ways to simplify it and understand food in a different way, my life transformed. I was able to change my thinking and my beliefs about food and also find a simple way to manage my nutrition so that I had the best energy and also the best health. This is what I talk about in my recent for life program because I feel it’s important for me to share my experience because I am certain that I’m not the only one that had these challenges. It was so empowering to learn about the true purpose of food and how to incorporate into my life in a positive and healthy way. I learned how to regain my personal power and shift those beliefs to maximize my energy which was absolute game changer for me on my life. 33. Stress makes us fat
Nobody wants to hear about being fat… But the fact is that stress causes our body to be fearful about allowing the release of fat and quite often will promote more fat to be deposited on the body. So it’s worth looking into reducing stress, because this will help to achieve the goals that you’re looking for with regards to your health and fitness. If I think back to my years of overthinking and over analyzing and living in procrastination and constantly being triggered and overwhelmed, I was not able to slow down and to allow the space for health to be part of my life. The habits of thought that I had were an absolute killer and it was deadly for me to not have the insight into myself. Being able to learn time management and ways to stop fear and procrastination and to learn to slow down were absolutely magical ways that allowed me to reduce my stress and be more likely to achieve my health and fitness goals without struggle and without it being difficult. The beauty of the reset for life program is that it teaches us to have a better concept of time, and use simple tools to make life changes. More important is to commit to different habits of thought. The habits of thought are a critical concept and must change in order to promote relaxation and have less cortisol raging in our system.
