HEAR Journaling - Exodus 40

 

Highlight – Exodus 40:12-16 New Living Translation

12 “Then you shall bring Aaron and his sons to the door of the tabernacle of meeting and wash them with water. 13 You shall put the holy garments on Aaron, and anoint him and consecrate him, that he may minister to Me as priest. 14 And you shall bring his sons and clothe them with tunics. 15 You shall anoint them, as you anointed their father, that they may minister to Me as priests; for their anointing shall surely be an everlasting priesthood throughout their generations.” 16 Thus Moses did; according to all that the Lord had commanded him, so he did.

 

Explain – God gave Moses instructions to assemble the Tabernacle per God’s specifications.  Moses was instructed to bring Aaron and his sons to the door of the Tabernacle, wash them with water, put on Aaron’s holy garments and anoint and consecrate him.  Then they were to clothe Aaron’s sons and anoint them as they did Aaron.  Aaron and his descendants were appointed as the everlasting priesthood.

 

Apply – We too must be prepared for God’s work.  We present ourselves to Jesus, sinners needing cleansing.  We are cleaned by the precious blood of Jesus Christ that wipes away our sin.  We are indwelt by the Holy Spirit who provides continual anointing and consecration to the worship and work that God calls us to do.  We follow Him faithfully and obediently forever always for an everlasting relationship with Him.

 

Romans 12:1-2 ESV I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

 

1 Peter 3:15 ESV But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,

 

Luke 21:36 ESV But stay awake at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.”

 

John 16:33 ESV I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

Highlight – Exodus 39:32, 49 New Living Translation

The Work Completed

32 Thus all the work of the tabernacle of the tent of meeting was finished. And the children of Israel did according to all that the Lord had commanded Moses; so they did.

…42 According to all that the Lord had commanded Moses, so the children of Israel did all the work. 43 Then Moses looked over all the work, and indeed they had done it; as the Lord had commanded, just so they had done it. And Moses blessed them.

 

Explain – The Tabernacle components were all completed per the specifications that God had directed through Moses.  The completed the work through the resources and giftings provided by the Lord.  The people were willing, available, and diligent to complete the work.  Moses blessed them for their faithfulness and obedience.

 

Apply – We too can be willing, available, and diligent partners with God in the tasks that He has called us to do.  We will receive the best from God when we are willingly faithful and obedient.

 

Proverbs 13:4 ESV The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied.

 

Galatians 6:9 ESV And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.

Highlight – Exodus 38:21-25 New Living Translation

Inventory of Materials

21 This is an inventory of the materials used in building the Tabernacle of the Covenant.[h] The Levites compiled the figures, as Moses directed, and Ithamar son of Aaron the priest served as recorder. 22 Bezalel son of Uri, grandson of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, made everything just as the Lord had commanded Moses. 23 He was assisted by Oholiab son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, a craftsman expert at engraving, designing, and embroidering with blue, purple, and scarlet thread on fine linen cloth. 24 The people brought special offerings of gold totaling 2,193 pounds,[i] as measured by the weight of the sanctuary shekel. This gold was used throughout the Tabernacle. 25 The whole community of Israel gave 7,545 pounds[j] of silver, as measured by the weight of the sanctuary shekel.

 

Explain – Exodus 38 records the inventory of materials that were used in the construction of the Tabernacle.  Look at the detail and the vast array of materials that were required to build the Tabernacle to God’s specifications.  Look at the people who were involved in the in the construction of the Tabernacle.  Every person from every family from every tribe contributed in some way toward the construction of the Tabernacle.  This expert construction was accomplished by people that had come out of the bondage of Egypt and had physically moved all these materials from Egypt.  God’s anointing was over His people to accomplish this marvelous work.

 

Apply – God has amazing and wonderful plans for each of us as well.  God does give us our free will to choose which path we will follow. You can doubt and resist Him to accomplish little, or you can place your faith in the Lord, follow Him faithfully and obediently to experience a life that you could not imagine, a life of abundance and joy only possible through a relationship with Him.

 

Joshua 24:15 ESV And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

 

Jeremiah 29:11 ESV For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Explain – Bezalel was the master craftsman anointed by God, filled with the Holy Spirit, to complete the expert construction of the Ark, Table, Lampstand, Incense Altar, and the Sacred anointing oil and fragrant incense.

 

Apply – The Lord has plans for each of us and will provide the wisdom, knowledge, understanding, instruction, skills, and expertise to fulfill the calling and tasks that He intends for us to accomplish.  We must crucify our own will and flesh to seek and complete the plan that He has for us.

 

Jeremiah 29:11 ESV For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

6 So Moses gave the command, and this message was sent throughout the camp: “Men and women, don’t prepare any more gifts for the sanctuary. We have enough!” So the people stopped bringing their sacred offerings. 7 Their contributions were more than enough to complete the whole project.

 

Explain – The people of Israel provided all of the materials that was required to build the Tabernacle.

 

Apply – We too should be cheerful givers of our time and resources in the service of the Lord.

 

2 Corinthians 9:7 ESV Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

HEAR Journaling - Exodus 35

 

Highlight – Exodus 35:20-22,29 New Living Translation

20 So the whole community of Israel left Moses and returned to their tents. 21 All whose hearts were stirred and whose spirits were moved came and brought their sacred offerings to the Lord. They brought all the materials needed for the Tabernacle,[a] for the performance of its rituals, and for the sacred garments. 22 Both men and women came, all whose hearts were willing. They brought to the Lord their offerings of gold—brooches, earrings, rings from their fingers, and necklaces. They presented gold objects of every kind as a special offering to the Lord.

…29 So the people of Israel—every man and woman who was eager to help in the work the Lord had given them through Moses—brought their gifts and gave them freely to the Lord.

 

Explain – God asked His people to sacrifice and bring the plunder that they had taken from Egypt to build the Tabernacle and all that would be in it. The craftsmen, both men and women, were given skills to produce the items to be used in the Tabernacle.  They gave of their time and resources freely.

 

Apply – God doesn’t need our help but graciously includes us in His plans to accomplish more than we could have ever imagined.  Remember, the Israelites were traveling across the wilderness, yet they had all the materials, tools, and expertise to construct the massive Tabernacle and everything in it through the power of God.  We should not doubt God or hold back sharing the time, resources, and giftings that the Lord has given us to accomplish the tasks that He has directed us to do.

 

Jeremiah 1:5 ESV “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”

 

2 Peter 1:10-11 ESV Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall. For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

 

2 Timothy 1:9 ESV Who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began,

HEAR Journaling - Exodus 34

 

Highlight – Exodus 34:28-30 New Living Translation

28 Moses remained there on the mountain with the Lord forty days and forty nights. In all that time he ate no bread and drank no water. And the Lord[h] wrote the terms of the covenant—the Ten Commandments[i]—on the stone tablets.  29 When Moses came down Mount Sinai carrying the two stone tablets inscribed with the terms of the covenant,[j]he wasn’t aware that his face had become radiant because he had spoken to the Lord. 30 So when Aaron and the people of Israel saw the radiance of Moses’ face, they were afraid to come near him.

 

Explain – The people of Israel were afraid to approach Moses because his face had become radiant from speaking with the Lord.

 

Apply – We too can profit much by communicating with the Lord. We can benefit ourselves as well as others as the Lord can give us instructions or words of comfort for others.  Others may perceive the love of the Lord in us as we have been in the presence of the Lord.

 

Psalm 73:28 ESV But for me it is good to be near God; I have made the Lord God my refuge, that I may tell of all your works.

 

1 Corinthians 3:16 ESV Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you?

HEAR Journaling - Exodus 33

 

Highlight – Exodus 33:8-11,20 New Living Translation

8 Whenever Moses went out to the Tent of Meeting, all the people would get up and stand in the entrances of their own tents. They would all watch Moses until he disappeared inside. 9 As he went into the tent, the pillar of cloud would come down and hover at its entrance while the Lord spoke with Moses. 10 When the people saw the cloud standing at the entrance of the tent, they would stand and bow down in front of their own tents. 11 Inside the Tent of Meeting, the Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend. Afterward Moses would return to the camp, but the young man who assisted him, Joshua son of Nun, would remain behind in the Tent of Meeting.

… 20 But you may not look directly at my face, for no one may see me and live.” 

 

Explain – Moses would meet with God at the Tent of Meeting.  The pilar of cloud would stand at the entrance while Moses met with God “face to face”, speaking as one to a friend.  This seems to contract verse 20 that says no one may look upon God’s face and live.  This is not a contradiction, the reference to speaking “face to face” simply means that God and Moses had a conversation, not that Moses actually looked upon God’s face.

 

Apply – We are blessed that we too can have a one-on-one conversation, a living relationship with the Lord God.  The Lord will communicate in any manner that He wishes, for me it is most often direct mind to mind communication, instantaneous thought from God.  What a blessing it is to communicate with my Lord God Creator.  You can speak with Him too, seek Him.

 

Romans 8:26 ESV Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.

 

Matthew 11:28 ESV Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Highlight – Exodus 32:11-14 New Living Translation

11 But Moses tried to pacify the Lord his God. “O Lord!” he said. “Why are you so angry with your own people whom you brought from the land of Egypt with such great power and such a strong hand? 12 Why let the Egyptians say, ‘Their God rescued them with the evil intention of slaughtering them in the mountains and wiping them from the face of the earth’? Turn away from your fierce anger. Change your mind about this terrible disaster you have threatened against your people! 13 Remember your servants Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.[a] You bound yourself with an oath to them, saying, ‘I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars of heaven. And I will give them all of this land that I have promised to your descendants, and they will possess it forever.’” 14 So the Lord changed his mind about the terrible disaster he had threatened to bring on his people.

 

Explain – The people sinned against God by building a graven image, a calf, to worship rather than worshiping the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob that had led them out of bondage.  God had determined to kill all the rebellious people.  Moses pleaded with God to change His mind and not kill the trespassers.  Matthew Henry, in his commentary on Exodus Chapter 32 notes two points: 

 

IV. God graciously abated the rigour of the sentence, and repented of the evil he thought to do (v. 14); though he designed to punish them, yet he would not ruin them. See here,

1. The power of prayer; God suffers himself to be prevailed with by the humble believing importunity of intercessors.

2. The compassion of God towards poor sinners, and how ready he is to forgive. Thus he has given other proofs besides his own oath that he has no pleasure in the death of those that die; for he not only pardons upon the repentance of sinners, but spares and reprieves upon the intercession of others for them.

Apply – We see that God hears the prayers of faithful righteous intercessors with great love and compassion.  We can learn to grow in the Lord to become faithful and effective intercessors that can accomplish much through His power.

Highlight – Exodus 31:1-11 New Living Translation

Craftsmen: Bezalel and Oholiab

1 Then the Lord said to Moses, 2 “Look, I have specifically chosen Bezalel son of Uri, grandson of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. 3 I have filled him with the Spirit of God, giving him great wisdom, ability, and expertise in all kinds of crafts. 4 He is a master craftsman, expert in working with gold, silver, and bronze. 5 He is skilled in engraving and mounting gemstones and in carving wood. He is a master at every craft!

6 “And I have personally appointed Oholiab son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, to be his assistant. Moreover, I have given special skill to all the gifted craftsmen so they can make all the things I have commanded you to make:

7 the Tabernacle;[a]
the Ark of the Covenant;[b]
the Ark’s cover—the place of atonement;
all the furnishings of the Tabernacle;
8 the table and its utensils;
the pure gold lampstand with all its accessories;
the incense altar;
9 the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils;
the washbasin with its stand;
10 the beautifully stitched garments—the sacred garments for Aaron the priest, and the garments for his sons to wear as they minister as priests;
11 the anointing oil;
the fragrant incense for the Holy Place.

The craftsmen must make everything as I have commanded you.”

 

Explain – God directed Moses to give instructions to the master craftsmen to build the Tabernacle and all that would be in it.  God had filled Bezalel, His chosen master craftsman, with the Holy Spirit giving him great wisdom, ability, and expertise in all kinds of crafts.  He appointed Oholiab as assistant to the master craftsman.  God had also given special skills to all the craftsmen to be able to do the work that was set before them.  The direction came from God, through Moses to the craftsmen. 

 

Apply – God called each of these people to do jobs way beyond their normal human capabilities, from Moses as leader down to every craftsman called to this mighty work.  They accomplished everything that God called them to do because He provided the resources, the giftings, the abilities for each to do what He had called them to do.  They were faithful and obedient to accomplish much. Should God bless us to be called to a task or even a job bigger than we think we can handle we should be reminded that God is our power and strength.  We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us as we faithfully and obediently follow Him to accomplish our assigned tasks.

1 “Then make another altar of acacia wood for burning incense. 2 Make it 18 inches square and 36 inches high,[a]with horns at the corners carved from the same piece of wood as the altar itself. 3 Overlay the top, sides, and horns of the altar with pure gold, and run a gold molding around the entire altar. 4 Make two gold rings, and attach them on opposite sides of the altar below the gold molding to hold the carrying poles. 5 Make the poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold. 6 Place the incense altar just outside the inner curtain that shields the Ark of the Covenant,[b] in front of the Ark’s cover—the place of atonement—that covers the tablets inscribed with the terms of the covenant.[c] I will meet with you there.

Also get one gallon of olive oil.[j] 25 Like a skilled incense maker, blend these ingredients to make a holy anointing oil. 26 Use this sacred oil to anoint the Tabernacle, the Ark of the Covenant, 27 the table and all its utensils, the lampstand and all its accessories, the incense altar, 28 the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, and the washbasin with its stand. 29 Consecrate them to make them absolutely holy. After this, whatever touches them will also become holy.

            

Explain – The wise men brought baby Jesus three gifts:  1) gold, 2) frankincense, and 3) myrrh (Matthew 2:1-2).  These three elements are found on the altar in the Tabernacle.  Gold was the molding of the altar, Frankincense was the incense, and myrrh was one of the ingredients in the anointing oil.  All of these were used in the consecration of the altar to the Lord.  These three elements also relate to Jesus:

1)    Gold – He is the King of Kings

2)    Frankincense – He is the High Priest

3)    Myrrh – He is the Lamb of God, the sacrifice for the sins of the world.

Apply – We must recognize what Jesus the Christ, the Messiah, died for us.  We must accept Him as our Lord and Savior, our High Priest, the Lamb of God that took our sins away.  He is worthy of glory, honor, and praise.

Offer them in the Lord’s presence at the Tabernacle entrance; there I will meet with you and speak with you. 43 I will meet the people of Israel there, in the place made holy by my glorious presence. 44 Yes, I will consecrate the Tabernacle and the altar, and I will consecrate Aaron and his sons to serve me as priests. 45 Then I will live among the people of Israel and be their God, 46 and they will know that I am the Lord their God. I am the one who brought them out of the land of Egypt so that I could live among them. I am the Lord their God.

            

Explain – God directed Moses to instruct Aaron and his sons to perform sacrificial offerings daily to the Lord.  These were to be done daily, generation to generation in the Lord’s presence at the Tabernacle entrance where God would speak and meet the people of Israel, made holy by God’s presence.  He promised to live among the people of Israel and be their God.

 

Apply – Today we don’t have to make sacrificial offerings daily because Jesus paid the price. He is the final sacrifice for all the sins of the whole world for all time.  When we accept Him as savior and Lord He comes in and makes our body the Temple of the Lord.  He meets with us daily as we offer prayer and sacrifices of praise just as He met the nation of Israel at the Tabernacle.  Don’t miss the opportunity to meet with Him daily yourself.

 

2 Corinthians 6:16 ESV What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said, “I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

 

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 ESV Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

 

1 Corinthians 3:16-17 ESV Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. For God's temple is holy, and you are that temple.

Clothing for the Priests

28 “Call for your brother, Aaron, and his sons, Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. Set them apart from the rest of the people of Israel so they may minister to me and be my priests. 2 Make sacred garments for Aaron that are glorious and beautiful. 3 Instruct all the skilled craftsmen whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom. Have them make garments for Aaron that will distinguish him as a priest set apart for my service. 4 These are the garments they are to make: a chestpiece, an ephod, a robe, a patterned tunic, a turban, and a sash. They are to make these sacred garments for your brother, Aaron, and his sons to wear when they serve me as priests. 5 So give them fine linen cloth, gold thread, and blue, purple, and scarlet thread.

 

Explain – God instructed Moses to set Aaron and his sons to be priests for the Tabernacle and to make specific garments for them to wear when they are serving the Lord and His people in the Tabernacle.

 

Apply –   God calls each of us to service in some manner, and we are to think, say, and do what the Holy Spirit would direct.  We, the believers that have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior are His body for His works here on earth.

 

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 ESV Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

 

1 Corinthians 6:15-17 ESV Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never! Or do you not know that he who is joined to a prostitute becomes one body with her? Light for the Tabernacle

20 “Command the people of Israel to bring you pure oil of pressed olives for the light, to keep the lamps burning continually. 21 The lampstand will stand in the Tabernacle, in front of the inner curtain that shields the Ark of the Covenant.[g] Aaron and his sons must keep the lamps burning in the Lord’s presence all night. This is a permanent law for the people of Israel, and it must be observed from generation to generation.

 

Explain – God’s instructed Aaron and his sons to maintain the light stands in the Tabernacle so that the lamps will always be burning pure olive oil.

 

Apply –   When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior our bodies become a temple of the Lord with the indwelling Holy Spirit.  We too must ensure the light continues to burn in our bodily temple, to maintain our faithful and obedient lives as a worship to the Lord who saved us and released us from the bondage of sin.

Highlight – Exodus 26:1-6 New Living Translation

Plans for the Tabernacle

26 “Make the Tabernacle from ten curtains of finely woven linen. Decorate the curtains with blue, purple, and scarlet thread and with skillfully embroidered cherubim. 2 These ten curtains must all be exactly the same size—42 feet long and 6 feet wide.[a] 3 Join five of these curtains together to make one long curtain, then join the other five into a second long curtain. 4 Put loops of blue yarn along the edge of the last curtain in each set. 5 The fifty loops along the edge of one curtain are to match the fifty loops along the edge of the other curtain. 6 Then make fifty gold clasps and fasten the long curtains together with the clasps. In this way, the Tabernacle will be made of one continuous piece.

 

Explain – God’s instructions for the building of the Tabernacle were explicit and exact.  He provided the instructions and He gifted these artisans to make every item to its exact specifications and they accomplished the seemingly impossible work required of them.

 

Apply – .  This seems to be a daunting task for people that are walking across the desert on the way to their promised land.  Sometimes God will call us to a task that seems far beyond our capability, far beyond the provisions that we think we have.  We can be discouraged and procrastinate, or we can follow the Lord’s instructions and complete the task with the power, wisdom, and knowledge that He provides.

 

Jeremiah 1:5 ESV “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”

 

2 Peter 1:10-11 ESV Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall. For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Highlight – Exodus 25:8 New Living Translation

8 “Have the people of Israel build me a holy sanctuary so I can live among them. 9 You must build this Tabernacle and its furnishings exactly according to the pattern I will show you.

 

Explain – God gave Moses detailed instructions on how to build the Tabernacle and its furnishings in Exodus Chapters 25 through 31.  This was to be a holy sanctuary so that God could live among His people.

 

Apply – God will provide us detailed instructions when we are faithfully obedient to His guidance.  He will tell us how we can best worship Him and be steadfast in our relationship with Him.

 

John 8:47 ESV Whoever is of God hears the words of God. The reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God.”

Highlight – Exodus 24:9-11  New Living Translation

9 Then Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and the seventy elders of Israel climbed up the mountain. 10 There they saw the God of Israel. Under his feet there seemed to be a surface of brilliant blue lapis lazuli, as clear as the sky itself.11 And though these nobles of Israel gazed upon God, he did not destroy them. In fact, they ate a covenant meal, eating and drinking in his presence!

 

Exodus 24:9-11 New King James Version

9 Then Moses went up, also Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel, 10 and they saw the God of Israel. And there was under His feet as it were a paved work of sapphire stone, and it was like the very[b] heavens in its clarity. 11 But on the nobles of the children of Israel He did not [c]lay His hand. So they saw God, and they ate and drank.

 

Explain – Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and the seventy elders of Israel climbed up the mountain and saw God for themselves standing on a pavement of brilliant sapphire stone.  They had a covenant meal there before God.

 

Apply – This is curious that there were seventy-three elders present with Moses.  Each of them saw God for themselves for the duration of the meal, but later these same people would defy God after Moses was gone from them for 40 days.  They urged Aaron to build a golden calf to worship (Exodus Chapter 32).  It is too easy to fall away from our Lord God.  We must be vigilant our relationship with Him.

 

Exodus 32:1 ESV The Gold Calf 1When the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron and said to him, “Up, make us gods who shall go before us. As for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.”

Highlight – Exodus 23:19  New Living Translation

19 “As you harvest your crops, bring the very best of the first harvest to the house of the Lord your God. “You must not cook a young goat in its mother’s milk.

 

Explain – Moses shared God’s regulations that said the very best of the first harvest should be brought to the house of the Lord.  He also stated “You must not cook a young goat in its mother’s milk.”

 

The first part is clear, offerings should be the best, and to give to God first, the first fruits.

 

The second, You must not cook a young goat in its mother’s milk.”, is a metaphor that means…

“Teachings about God are difficult to understand. Don’t accept new spiritual teachings about God that look too good, and too easy, to be true; they have probably been deliberately ‘cooked up’ to deceive you”.

Apply – We are to always Give God our very best.  When we tithe, we should give Him the firstfruits, the first 10% which is the first fruits.  Give that to the “House of the Lord” that God has directed you to.  This is worship and honing God with our obedience.

 

For the second thought, we must be wise to seek the Lord for discernment, wisdom, knowledge, understanding, and instruction so as not to be deceived by cooked up doctrines of men.

 

Proverbs 3:9-10 ESV Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine.

 

Nehemiah 10:35 ESV We obligate ourselves to bring the firstfruits of our ground and the firstfruits of all fruit of every tree, year by year, to the house of the Lord;

 

Proverbs 3:9 ESV Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce;

Explain – Moses shared God’s regulations that said not dishonor God or curse any of your rulers.

 

Apply – We are not to dishonor God or curse any of our rulers.  The Word of God says for us to pray for our rulers, to pray for anyone that would persecute us.  All of this can be avoided by making Jesus the Lord of your life, to abide in the Holy Spirit as He abides in you.  Follow Him faithfully and obediently and you will commit no sin.  

 

1 Timothy 2:1-2 ESV First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.

Highlight – Exodus 21:12-14  New Living Translation

12 “Anyone who assaults and kills another person must be put to death. 13 But if it was simply an accident permitted by God, I will appoint a place of refuge where the slayer can run for safety. 14 However, if someone deliberately kills another person, then the slayer must be dragged even from my altar and be put to death.

 

Explain – Moses was instructed to share God’s regulations to the people of Israel.  Verses 12-14 discusses deliberate murder that requires the death of the murderer.

 

Apply – We must understand that God is our Lord and King.  We should obey all things that He directs, and He will determine the recompense to be made for our sins against others.  There is no hiding the truth from God, He knows all.  All of this can be avoided by making Jesus the Lord of your life, to abide in the Holy Spirit as He abides in you.  Follow Him faithfully and obediently and you will commit no sin.  Repent for the past sins and ask God what you should do to make reconciliation to others.

 

Ephesians 4:32 ESV Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

 

2 Corinthians 5:18 ESV All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation;
