“My” Good

This episode explores a dangerous tendency many of us have when we read Scripture that may lead us to expect things out of the Christian life that may not be Biblical.

Don’t Take My Word For It
Paul talks about kids, slavery, and masters

I admit this was a hard episode for me to put together because I am neither knowledgeable or experienced on these topics> I chose to share things I found and thoughts I came across to better understand Paul’s address on them. This focuses on Colossians 3:20-4:6.

I used the Tony Evans Study Bible CSB version along with a few commentaries and interlinear bibles that are also available free of charge to you online. Remember to always invest in studying these topics yourself!

Uh-oh! Husbands & Wives (Col. 3:18-19)

In this podcast we discuss some things I learned about the Biblical functions of wives and husbands to the best of my ability after using biblical dictionaries to better understand wording that has made me feel negatively in the past. Some of my opinions are inserted here. Read Colossians 3:18-19 and Ephesians 5: 22-35ish, pray and study it.

Colossians 3:10-17; Put On

We continue in Colossians 3 verses 10 to 17 and we discuss the character qualities Paul tells us to “put on”as new creatures in Christ. For deeper personal study, look up the following words: oiktirmos, chrestotes, tapeinophrosune, prautes, makrothymia, agape, and eucharistos.

Mortify (Colossians 3:1-9)

In Colossians 3, Paul introduces actions we need to starve out or remove from our “modus operandi”. We do not go into anger or wrath in this episode. I missed those for some reason.

Read it all before you interpret. (Col 1:15-29

This episode I focus on talking about the danger of making interpretations with incomplete perspective or information when it pertains to Bible study.

While going through these verses, I was intrigued by the word “first born” that Paul uses to describe Christ in verse 15. We talk about what that term actually means in this episode.

Don’t Take My Word For It
Walk Worthy - Colossians 1:1-14

Im sharing things I learned through a deep dive of this book. Read the portion before or after listening to this. Most scholars believe Colossians was written by Paul in prison. He wrote to the early church of Colosse and a big focus of the book is the preeminence of Christ and the importance of Him in life. The following are a set of summarized points I talk through:

a) Our hope is in Christ.

b) I must bear fruit to show myself worthy of His sacrifice.

c) Good works do not get you into Heaven, but they do please God when done for the right reasons.

d) Knowledge, understanding, and wisdom are not synonyms and neither are God's will, your purpose, and your success.

e) Patience is not just waiting; it is enduring while we abide under and obey what we have been told to do in the season we are in. It's not patience if you are not being obedient.

f) Long-suffering is similar to patience but distinct from it in that it involves self-restraint while provoked amidst the enduring.

g) Joy (not happiness) is a fruit of the HS based on the person of JC and the understanding that He is good, trustworthy, and in control while we endure through. It is not circumstantial.

Don’t Take My Word For It
Definitions of the words “confess” and “repent”
In English we sometimes use one word to cover many different things. It’s helpful to know what root word implication is used to better grasp the message of a verse. Today, we explore the words “confess” and “repent”. I used the Vine’s Expository Dictionary and the Blue Letter Bible online. You can verify all this on either tool. II Cor. 9:13 | I Tim. 6:12-13 use the word profess for the root word “homólogia” which is confession. Heb. 7:21 | II Cor. 7:8 uses the word “metamelomai” as regret when translated to repent. In Acts 1:16-25 you can read the specific description of Judas if interested.

What is sin?

There is usually a concept, picture or idea that we get when we hear a word. What comes to mind when you hear the word “sin”? What does it really mean? If we do not fully understand the depth of this word, we may not adequately understand the Gospel and why God has been so good to us. We explore this on today’s episode.
