On today's episode, we talk to Paris Woods about how she paid off $100K in debt in a little over three years, some creative ways she was able to reduce her expenses and earn additional income through Airbnb, and her ongoing journey to becoming financially independent and retire early.
Paris Woods is a first-generation college graduate of Harvard University and a lifelong educator, having worked at some of the country’s top institutions. The daughter of a wise mother who encouraged her to venture out into the world and make “new mistakes,” Paris learned the hard way how to manage her finances and achieve financial freedom.
Through years of trial and error and the guidance of numerous FIRE (financial independence, retire early) experts, Paris landed on some simple principles that completely turned things around for her financially and in life. Paris's debut book, The Black Girl’s Guide to Financial Freedom, teaches readers how to win financially while living a life they love. Writing with the heart of a teacher, Paris breaks down seemingly complex financial topics into simple and actionable advice anyone can follow.
Paris has enjoyed numerous opportunities to help families with their personal finances, including through her work as a college financial aid officer and as an IRS-certified tax preparer. Paris earned her bachelor’s degree from Harvard College and her master’s degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She is currently an executive doctoral student at the University of Texas at Austin and she resides in New Orleans, LA.

On today's episode, Corporate-ish has a conversation with Breenae Washington. Breenae is an engineer with a passion for diversity and inclusion. Growing up, she excelled at math and science but often questioned her abilities because she didn't see other girls who shared her interests. Despite the lack of representation, with the support of her family and teachers, she found the strength to take the road less traveled. After receiving her degree from the Missouri University of Science and Technology and starting a career in IT, she quickly noticed that the lack of diversity in STEM/STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) was still a serious issue. This fueled her desire to make a difference. Today, her mission is to bridge the gender and diversity gap in STEM/STEAM through early exposure and education. We'll talk with Breenae about what she does as a Senior Product Manager at Amazon, leaving Mastercard after working there for nearly 9 years, and the initiatives she's pushing forward with her organization, The STEAM Queens.
Visit The STEAM Queens website at thesteamqueens.com
