The Thinnest Veil
Ep 65: Soul, Love, God

In this lively and rich discussion, Melissa and Essence discuss anger as an honest spiritual experience, the audacity and power of love, and how nature teaches us that some years just aren't our years.

This conversation was full of so many breathtaking moments.

One of the main take aways? When we live into the consistency of something that gives to people instead of taking from people, we fall in love instead of fear.

Ask yourself, "what matters now?"

Ep 64: The joy in the journey

There are moments when we break.

In this incredible interview with Cesar Cardona we talk about the thread that connects us all, whatever we are feeling is right, and the metaphor beyond the message.

There were moments when Cesar brought tears to my eyes as we talked about our spiritual journeys, the connection with Beethoven and Hendrix, and how what other people think doesn't have to take away from who we are as people.

Ep 63: Thoughts on leadership and power

Let's talk about women's leadership.

With Amy and Nancy, we dig into how conditioning defines leadership, why owning leadership is powerful and scary, and why we are being called to embrace our own brand of leadership.

Emotional sensitivity is a power and we change the world by owning it. Amy and Nancy hope that people will listen to themselves and tell their own authentic, unfiltered stories.

Ep 61: The Counterbalance to Atrocity is Love

There is no right way to be spiritual. In this episode Safrianna Lughna and I discuss spiritual bypassing and how people can use spiritual excuses to avoid looking at difficult things in their own lives.

We get right down to the nitty gritty about how we can make space to return to experiences to heal, how intention is the ingredient that changes everything, and how Protestant religion is what brought us the original forms of hustle culture.

There are so many nuggets of wisdom in this episode.

Ep 60: Holding on and letting go

Are you ready for this episode?

My dear friend Safrianna and I explore how we are impacted by being disconnected from nature, there is no quick fix, and how doing healing work lasts a lifetime.

Safrianna and I get a little bit spicy here and don't worry about pulling all the punches.

Listen, your authentic expression is for YOU first! We talk about showing up as you really are, how trauma spins us up so we feel validated and accepted, why we should focus on the impact of trauma and leave the trauma dumping behind.

Safrianna Lughna, LCPC, MS is a trauma therapist who with a little bit of unicorn magic, a wish, and a dream, transformed into the Queer-Spirit Guide: an international best-selling author and poet, speaker, CEO, and transformational mentor. She is host of the Shadow Side with Safrianna podcast, and co-host of Living LUNA and Breaking the Barriers.

When not working with clients or creating content, Safrianna is likely playing video games or relaxing with her polycule and cat companions.

Let's dig in!

Ep 59: Shamanism, healing and coming together as one.

My friend Michelle Hawk and I dig into the myths and truths about shamanism.

Michelle and I discuss how fundamentally wounded this cohort of humanity is, what it means to have no embodied relationship with the planet, and how the spiritual industry is plagued with hyper individualism. By acknowledging the reality that there is a dangerous capitalistic orientation to healing work and plant medicine, Michelle and I dig into our hopes for rigorous integrity and responsible authenticity in healing and spiritual practices.

Michelle Hawk is a Shaman, Master Healer and Spiritual Mentor, who began practicing Shamanism in 2003 at age 15. Her lineages come from Hungarian and Celtic shamanism.

A naturally gifted psychic and intuitive channel, Michelle’s work with Shamanic energies, Alchemy and multiple certifications as a Master Healer allow her to offer the deepest level of transformational healing work. She mentors and trains practitioners in Shamanism, Alchemy and the healing arts, and helps people master their intuitive gifts and magical birthright.

As a Shaman, biologist and passionate naturalist, her practice is rooted in deep reverence for life and the wisdom of Gaia, scientific principles of ecology and environmentalism, and genuine appreciation and enthusiasm for nature.

Come heal with us!

Ep 58: Debunking stereotypes and hopes for the future

In this episode, Dāli and I wrap up our conversation about immigration.

We talk about debunking stereotypes about immigrants being a financial drain on the economy, why we should all care about politics, and why it is so important to pay attention to who we are getting information from.

We recorded this conversation on July 1, 2025, the very day that the US Senate passed a budget bill that could serve to strip immigrants of even more human rights by increasing funding for ICE and detention centers.

I am very grateful that Dāli was willing to have these conversations knowing what is at risk in our country today.

Thanks so much for listening.

Ep 57: Solidarity over Assimilation

In this episode, Dali Rivera and I continue our conversation about immigration in the United States.

During our spicy and revelatory conversation we discuss how immigrants have to leave who they are behind, how to keep their culture and bring in new rituals and practices, and how immigrants often (if not always) feel othered when moving in different spaces.

Dali and I dig into how immigrants have to navigate unspoken cultural norms, releasing unrealistic expectations of immigrants, and how to create a movement away from assimilation towards solidarity.

Ep 56: Immigration, soul support and Graceful Revolution

This time we are joined by Dāli Rivera to dive into immigration.

Through the power of her own story of immigrating to the United States from Nicaragua, Dali takes us on a path of revelation about why changes need to be made to our immigration system. From serving in the military to supporting other immigrants, Dali and I raise the level of awareness about what we can do to support our community and impact the system.

Dāli Rivera is a U.S. Army veteran, speaker, author, founder, and creator of the Diversity & Anti-Bullying Academy and DaliTalks LLC. She earned a master’s degree in Women & Gender Studies with a concentration in social policy and leadership from Towson University.

Dāli’s passion to stop bullying comes from her own experiences as a bullied child and from having become an advocate for children, including her own. She has dedicated herself to sharing her knowledge to help families raise confident, bully-proof kids and to promote equality in their communities.

Because it is so important for kids to see confident role models, Dali also offers personal and professional coaching to parents seeking to grow and increase their opportunity to thrive.

Ep 55: Love and grief. When the end is the beginning.

In this final episode of the series, Cat Barnard and I talk about the weight of grief, how the experience of living includes music and how it sometimes reminds us of grief. We also expand on loving to our full capacity.

Over and over throughout our lives we go through moments of death. Where what we thought we knew and understood dies so that we can be born again in another cycle of the spiral.

There has always been darkness and light. Each change of season gives us the opportunity to see what is growing for us.

What is giving you life right now and how can you create space to talk about things that matter?

Thank you for joining us each week. We hope you enjoyed listening to the podcast as much as we enjoyed making it!

Ep 54: Love on the edge of heartbreak

This week, we're diving into the illusion that we can control our lives to the extend we think we should.

With Cat we discuss how the most powerful thing we can do at this time is to try to understand the water we are swimming in.

How to be more gentle with ourselves? How to go beyond the ordinary to trust our vision, inhibit our potential, and navigate the chaos and cut the clutter around us?

This episode is full of nuggets of wisdom.

We continue our conversation with Cat as we go over how to be grateful for what we have and who we are while staying grounded.

We're inviting you to be more compassionate for yourself, to bring more grace to yourself in order to stop resisting what angers you. What little thing can you do at your level in order to shift all the big things happening?

Let's talk about how Capitalism cannot continue as it isn't benefitting the masses anymore as society as evolved away from owning people.

This is an invitation to breathe in the good stuff and breathe out the bad.

We're back with Cat talking about how to find ways to give yourself love and compassion in the current society.

In a World that keeps spiralling in Chaos and with Social Media constantly driving this Chaos, how do we focus on what's really important? How do we resist all the distractions and fear?

We go through our concern about how fear, hate and disgust sells, and how our intuition compels us to connect with others, and becoming ok with our wonky mismatched selves.

In this episode, we talk wit Cat about Christmases, difficult family dynamics, and the nostalgia of a more simple time.

When the price of raw ingredients is more than the one of ultra processed food, how do you keep up with your mineral intake and your health? With the constant pressure on consuming more and more, how do you feel fulfilled with less? How can you bring back the spirit of Christmas of spending time with family and simply being.
