Navigating Healthcare Marketing at Any Size: Lessons from Jamie Gier
One of the most interesting people in healthcare marketing is Jamie Gier. One thing that makes her particularly interesting is that she's been a marketing leader at larger companies like GE Healthcare and Microsoft and most recently at a startup company, DexCare. She's now transitioning to the next stage of her career where she's doing fractional healthcare CMO work and deciding where she wants to have an impact next.

At this year's Swaay.Health Awards, her and her team won the healthcare marketing awards for Ad of the Year for their campaign "26 Days by DexCare." If you haven't seen it already, go and check it out. It's a humorous take on the reality that patients take 26 days on average to see a primary care doctor. The campaign jokes about all the things you could do in 26 days including learning to salsa dance, try parkour, or even master unicycling.

To learn more about what went into this campaign, we chatted with Gier about how she felt when she won the award, the details of how they came up with this campaign, and how they were able to execute it at a smaller company. She discusses the challenges of using humor in marketing while also making sure that a serious subject isn't being treated lightly. Plus, how she leveraged her team to come up with such a creative campaign.

While we had Gier, we also asked her about some of the differences she'd experienced doing healthcare marketing at larger and smaller companies. She notes how each have unique challenges. We also ask her to share what she believes are the keys to leading marketing efforts in the current healthcare marketing environment which is full of uncertainty. Plus, we learn what she considers the most underrated marketing tool, effort, or approach that not enough people are leveraging. Finally, we ask her how a healthcare marketing leader should be approaching AI.

Check out our interview with Jamie Gier to glean important insights into how to lead a healthcare marketing team at large and smaller companies and other insights on healthcare marketing leadership.

Inside the Brand Refresh That Prioritized Staff as Much as Strategy
One of the most compelling reasons for a brand refresh? When the company quietly outgrows its old story. The visuals feel dated, the messaging no longer reflects the strategy, and what once felt right now feels limiting. That’s when the real work begins, especially if you’re designing a brand that resonates just as much inside the walls as it does outside.

Harmony Healthcare IT had expanded fast. New clinical offerings. More staff. A bigger presence in the market. But their brand hadn’t kept up. So VP of Marketing Erik Johnson and Director of Marketing Amy Holmes led a full brand refresh—designed to resonate as much with staff as with prospects.

In this podcast, they break down how they aligned leadership, created momentum, rolled out the brand internally with “Swag Friday,” and treated the refresh as a multi-phase journey—not a one-day event. If you're navigating brand evolution in a complex healthcare org, this one’s for you.

Is Safety the New Brand Strategy in Healthcare?
Would you market a hospital without mentioning safety?
Most do. And yet, that’s the very thing patients are quietly scanning for—long before they notice your valet parking or digital check-in.

In this candid conversation, Richard Corder, a long-time advocate for better care and changemaker, explains why safety is a branding blind spot. He challenges healthcare marketers to rethink what “experience” really means, and why disconnected messaging puts your reputation at risk. If your brand promise doesn’t match what happens behind the scenes, this episode is definitely for you.

Patient Journey Maps Do More than Fix What’s Broken
Patient journey maps aren’t just for fixing what’s broken. When done well, they reveal what patients already love and show where to double down. Organizations that overlook those bright spots may be missing their best opportunity.

In this episode, James McMahon (VP of Marketing Communications at University of Maryland Medical Center) and Steve Koch (Managing Partner at Cast & Hue) break down how journey maps helped UMMC move beyond process fixes. From cancer care to first impressions, they used real patient stories to drive smarter decisions in operations, messaging, and team alignment.

The Secret to Healthcare Marketing Success in a Post-Truth World
In a world where facts are optional and trust is fractured; authenticity is the key to success. The healthcare brands that break through are not the loudest or most polished. They are the ones that feel real, speak plainly, and meet people where they are - even when it’s uncomfortable.

Brandon Edwards, CEO of Unlock Health and author of Authentic Healthcare Marketing, sees a growing gap between mission-driven messaging and real-world resonance. In this conversation, he laid out a challenge many in the field quietly wrestle with - and why the path forward may require being a little uncomfortable in unfamiliar channels.
