Renee is literally & metaphorically ON THE MOVE & in her own rebirth & reset cycle.
Listen to this episode for a more personal share about:
1. The context that led up to moving from Arkansas to St. Louis - it has been unfolding for many months!
2. How a late diagnosis of AUDHD means disruptions in environment & routine are more challenging & stressful. If this is you, you are not alone & there is a reason your brain is on the blink: it's about CAPACITY!
3. The real & regular challenge of obtaining adhd meds - which demands more executive functioning & adds to frustration.
4. Feeling DEEPLY means saying goodbye is hard. Extended good byes or abrupt are even more challenging.
5. GenX Cycle Breakers, like Renee, rarely get a chance to "come up for air" before a new or another life challenge arises.
Renee will be back "in the saddle" seeing clients soon & can't wait to connect!
Listener Question:
It's hard to decide what to do with my relationship & the advice I see seems contradictory or confuses me. I don't know what to think...

Neurodivergence & Ableism
Alexithymia: Emotional Understanding & Relationships
Alexithymia is a condition where individuals struggle to identify & express their emotions which can be disorienting & unsettling, often requiring a longer period of reflection to understand & resolve. They also touched on the potential impact of alexithymia on interpersonal relationships & how it may vary across different cultures.
Neurodiverse Experiences With IFS Therapy
Sofia and Renee discussed their experiences with Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy. Both agreed that their experiences were influenced by their neurodiverse wiring, which made traditional IFS methods less effective for them.
Family Constellations for Parts Work Related to Alexithymia
Sofia highlighted the benefits of these modalities for individuals with Alexithymia.
Exploring Alexithymia & Emotional Suppression
They agreed that this condition could be linked to genetic wiring, as well as emotional neglect & abuse - which sets up a trauma respone of learned suppression. Suppressing emotions is a significant energy drain for those affected.
Family constellations is an approach that can help individuals witness their emotions without having to actively work on them.
Effective Session & Movement Discussion
Recently, Sofia facilitated a session for Renee & Renee shared how helpful it was to have her parts represented. She noted that the session felt more powerful & deep than others she had experienced.
Sofia also shared her experience of representing her own part during a family constellations training, highlighting the importance of using the skills of an Ifs practitioner when working with one's own parts.
New Method of Working With Parts
Sofia shared how she had been able to connect with parts that were previously elusive, such as the parts responsible for squashing joy & play, and the parts responsible for blocking sadness. She noted that these parts were not as extreme in their job after being connected with, allowing for more flexibility & awareness of emotions. Sofia also mentioned that the impact of the parts work persisted after the experience.
Sofia's Work with Parts in Family Constellations
Sofia discussed her recent interactions with four parts. Renee emphasized the importance of building relationships with parts of the self, particularly in the context of the healing journey which often involves updating parts, & releasing them energetically from past traumatic experiences through unburdening.
Sofia's Healing Journey Development Plans
Sofia discussed her intention to develop & make her work available to clients who want to have similar work done for them. She plans to start with one-off sessions & then move to weekly cohorts where participants can trade off being clients & witnesses. She shared her vision of having a group of people who keep coming back to work on their own systems and be involved in other people's work. Sofia also hinted at the possibility of creating a membership program for ongoing practices & communication.
OUR GUEST: Sofia Olson is a Level 2 certified IFS practitioner, as well as a Family Constellations Facilitator.
Sofia is ADHD, alexithymic, & aphantasic. She's also the parent, step-parent, wife, daughter, & sister of people with various neurdivergences. Tanner Wallace, a former academician, is a survivor of childhood trauma & has been on an active healing journey for the past five years. Tanner is a Level 3 Internal Family Systems (IFS) trained practitioner. She has integrated various modalities into a cohesive healing protocol.
Success in Resolution: Persistence & Conviction
Tanner shared a personal story about a mentor who emphasized the importance of persistence in the face of rejections, suggesting that the key to success lies in not giving up. Tanner emphasized that everyone has their own timeline for healing & that setbacks are a natural part of the process. Different trauma responses were discussed & Tanner noted that those with a more collapsed, helpless response may face a harder starting point.
Breaking Cycles of Disempowerment
Exploring Dark Energy & Trauma
Dark energy is characterized by a destructive, dehumanizing energy that can manifest as rage & a desire to destroy. This trauma energy is often a result of unresolved trauma from generations past & can lead to cycles of shame & oppression. Lineage work & ancestral medicine are helpful paths to understand & address these issues.
Expanding Trauma Work & Community
The importance of creating a global community of shared stories & experiences was highlighted for the future of trauma healing. Tanner guides humans focused on cycle-breaking & seeking practical guidance on managing relationships with family members who may not be fully supportive of the healing process. The unique position of Gen X in facilitating this work as a bridge between generations was highlighted.
Personal Power & Self-Trust in Healing
Personal power, self-belief, & self-trust are needed to heal trauma & overcome challenges.

SUMMARY
Renee & Bex, both therapists & late-diagnosed autistic individuals, discussed their personal experiences & plans to research the intersection of autism & psychedelics as well as the potential benefits & challenges of using these psychedelics substances for therapy.
The conversation ended with a deep & meaningful discussion about their personal journeys, including their experiences with trauma, therapy, & psychedelics, & the need for more effective treatment modalities for neurodivergent individuals.
THEMES DISCUSSED
Exploring Autism and Psychedelic Therapy
Ketamine Therapy's Life-Changing Impact
Ketamine treatments helped Bex to relax & release physical tension, making therapy more effective. This change was also validated by her massage therapist.
Addressing Physical Trauma in Therapy
The need for a "bottom-up" approach to healing was discussed as well as the challenges faced by neurodivergent individuals, particularly those with autism, in identifying their body's states & needs due to difficulties with interoception.
Ketamine Therapy & Autism Impact
Ketamine therapy significantly reduced Bex’s depression scores & also seemed to affect her autism, making her less sensitive to sensory inputs & more flexible in daily routines.
Coping With Trauma & Loss
Emotional Experiences and Visions
An MDMA vision (black, oozing river of trauma & a vision of her younger self on the other side) led Bex to realize that she needed to confront her trauma directly. A life-changing moment with ketamine & a positive experience with MDMA also helped her feel more connected & less overwhelmed by her autism.
Journey to Self-Realization and Acceptance
"I am enough" is a belief that is hard for neurodivergent people to claim. A journey led Bex to realize that while she had spent her life asking for permission & approval to exist, she was always good enough. Bex shared her husband's sweet emotional response to their realization.
Neurodivergent Identities and Trauma Therapy
Exploring Psychedelic Treatments for Healing
Substance Sensitivity & Neurodivergent Effects
Personal Journeys and Therapy Challenges

Renee & Ashley are GenX women who have worked with women for decades wrestling with the challenge of being an Overfunctioning Woman in love with an Underfunctioning Man.
GenX women received the message, “you can have it all” yet the GenX men were NOT taught how to level up their skillset to be in equal partnership.
There is an EPIDEMIC of women carrying the MENTAL LOAD & leading the planning, coordination, & execution of managing family & the home while working, caregiving for children & other family, AND not having enough resourcing.
The Overfunctioning Woman in relationship with an Underfunctioning Man will attempt to:
• Partner
• Problem Solve
• Plan
• Make Bids for Connection.
And she will meet the defensive shield of the Underfunctioning Man, who does not have the skillset or capacity to feel his own feelings. And therefore, he is not available to meet hers either.
His response will likely include:
• Denial
• Dismissal
• Defense
• Projection (turn the tables or “off load”)
Leaving her stuck with overwhelm, unmet needs, self-doubt, anger, resentment, & hurt.
This cycle will “rinse & repeat” until she loses hope & her love is destroyed.
She has experienced “death by a thousand papercuts” & when she is DONE, he feels blindsided.
Women in midlife are being called to RESTORE their personal power & plug energy leaks.
It is NOT selfish; it is self-preservation.
You are worthy. You are NOT crazy. This is textbook.
Emotional safety is a prerequisite for healthy relationships.

THIS EPISODE: While many neurological differences are hereditary & present at birth, some are acquired. For late diagnosed beings, NOT having this information can be a giant obstacle to living their best life.
IFS is a fabulous model for healing for both populations but alternative perspectives are needed to avoid delay in improvement, hurt & harn, & shame.
If you weren't born with a neurological developmental difference, you can still acquire neurological differences through trauma.
For people with native or acquired neurodivergence, finding neuroaffirming providers is essntial as neurotypical care can create hurt & harm.
Learn how Renee has come to understand how to adapt the IFS model for CPTSD Recovery.
Renee advocates for greater awareness of neurocomplexity & shares more about her journey of discovering her AUDHD on her path towards CPTSD Resolution.
Meet Taylor Damiani:
"Hi, I’m Taylor. I’m a Psychologist and Narcissistic Abuse Recovery Coach, but honestly, I’m just someone who knows how messy and complicated healing from a dysfunctional family can be. Growing up with anarcis sistic parent (and all the dynamics that come with that), I get how hard it is to untangle yourself from years of self-doubt and expectations and figure out who you really are. It’s taken me a long time to start reconnecting with my true self (and honestly, it’s still a work in progress). Now, I help others who’ve grown up with narcissistic parents find their way back to themselves through my group program, Reclaim You: Healing as Adult Children of Narcissistic Parents."

Taylor & Renee Chat About:
Personal Journeys and Healing Work
Taylor and Renee discussed their personal journeys and how they connected through social media. Renee expressed her appreciation for Taylor's work and mentioned an upcoming summit focused on cycle breaking. Taylor shared her own healing journey, which began in 2015 when she discovered Dani Morgan's website. She then pursued a graduate degree and eventually started her own healing work, with Renee being one of the first speakers at her first summit.
Taylor's Summit on Healing and Cycle Breaking
Taylor discussed her passion for organizing summits, particularly those focused on healing from narcissistic abuse and cycle breaking. The upcoming summit will explore themes of reconnecting with one's inner self, redefining identity, and becoming a cycle breaker. Taylor emphasized the importance of self-reparenting and becoming the person one needed.
Themes Discussed:
The upcoming summit, which will take place from December 9th to 12th - will consist of four days of presentations, with the last day being an interactive day of discussions and workshops. Each presentation will be available for 24 hours, and attendees can purchase an all-access pass for lifetime access. There will also be live speaker panels and peer panels where attendees can share their stories.
Renee's presentation for the Summit is on the topic of Resistance & Rejection. Renee wiill offer a follow-up Q&A session for those who purchase the all-access pass.

I’m moving through a new phase of recovery & want to share it with you in real time.
This is different for me. I historically wait until I’m “on the other side” of it for neutrality, clarity, & solutions.
I do believe there is value in sharing “what’s real” in real-time. For me, there is freedom in honoring my truth. For others, my hope is that my story continues to serve those who are still searching for their truth. I hope too that in sharing I might help you put your puzzle pieces together too.
My puzzle pieces to date have been understanding Narcissistic abuse & CPTSD recovery.
I’ve made a lot of progress in many ways but there have been many challenges. Adequate support, enough safety, & the environment do matter on a recovery journey.

SHOW NOTES:
NEEDS:
A. Survival Needs = Basic Needs: food shelter, clothing, medical attention, safety & protection. If a child doesn’t feel safe, then they cannot relax & play; disrupts developmental growth. Protective mechanisms will develop for survival & will become an added burden later in life.
B. Emotional Dependency Needs = Basic & Primary Needs for Love & Esteem = Time, Attention, Affection, & Direction.
WOUNDS from “The Past”: When NEEDS aren’t met and/or something happens or doesn’t happen that should in the absence of support. These wounds HURT & adaptive (defensive, protective, proactive/extreme/reactive) strategies are then developed & repeated.
Common Emotional Injuries/Wounds: being controlled, excluded, abandoned, humiliated, neglected, abused, betrayed, rejected, ignored, & disrespected.
Suggested Partner Conversation: It might be helpful to discuss with your partner, how your families of origin handled or reacted to each of the main ”primary” emotions: mad, sad, scared, & glad. In other words, what was accepted/encouraged & what was avoided/minimized/shamed?
Self-Check: Assess what is overdeveloped, underdeveloped, or appropriately skillful….?
