Exploring Innovation in India: Dr. Rishikesha Krishnan Shares Key Research Insights
Dr. Rishikesha Krishnan, Professor of Strategy and Former Director at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, delves into his pioneering research, “Innovation in and from India: The Who, Where, What, and When.” Most Indian firms innovate within the technological frontier, emphasizing cost reduction and frugal innovation to meet local affordability needs. Process and organizational innovations are more common than product or supply chain innovations. Foreign multinationals remain key patent contributors, largely unaffected by weak IP enforcement. A promising trend is the growth of start-ups driving product and business model innovation. Overall, empirical research on innovation in India remains limited compared to China, signaling scope for further study. From a managerial lens, Indian firms excel in incremental and frugal innovations that create value domestically, while foreign firms lead in patent-driven R&D for global markets. The interaction between these forces is now catalyzing a new wave of innovative start-ups in India. This podcast is brought to you by Global Management Consultancy. Why Too Many Charity Options Can Overwhelm Donors - Dr. Danit Ein-Gar Explains
Dr. Danit Ein-Gar, Professor of Marketing at the Coller School of Management, Tel Aviv University, Israel, conducts pioneering research on giving and donation behavior. Her work, including "The Paradox of Choice in Giving: Why Donors Struggle to Decide," explores the psychological challenges donors face when presented with numerous charitable options. She investigates how the abundance of choices in donation platforms can overwhelm donors, sometimes leading to decision paralysis or reduced charitable giving. Dr. Ein-Gar's research reveals two notable effects: the "proportion dominance" effect, where fewer choice options increase donation likelihood and amount, and the "global need perception" effect, where choosing more causes heightens donors' perception of global need and willingness to give. Her studies focus on how new digital giving platforms influence these donor decisions and the unique psychological processes involved in deciding whether and how much to give. Dr. Ein-Gar blends insights from consumer behavior, personality, and situational factors to address prosocial behavior in a modern context, also investigating related themes like self-control and information processing in donation decision-making. How Firms Value Sales Experience | Dr. Alireza Keshavarz Explains
Dr. Alireza Keshavarz, Assistant Professor of Marketing at Maynooth University Business School, explores his research titled “How Do Firms Value Sales Career Paths?” Sales employees can advance across industries, firms, and roles, but the impact of their career paths on compensation is unclear. Analyzing pay data from nearly 25,000 sales employees over 22 years, we find that firms value sales managers’ experience more than that of salespeople, reflecting a managerial multiplier effect. Sales occupation experience is the most transferable and valuable for both groups. Two career paths emerge: one rewarding sales experience and another offering promotional opportunities in management, often filled by individuals without prior sales experience. These findings have important implications for sales research and compensation practices. This podcast is brought to you by Global Management Consultancy. Unique You: Dr. Nigel Nicholson on Unlocking the Power of Individuality
Dr. Nigel Nicholson, Emeritus Professor of Organisational Behaviour at London Business School, shares key insights from his upcoming book, “Unique You: How Individuality Works and Why It Matters.” Unique You explores the concept of Unique Individuality (UI), the distinctive blend of biology, experience, and personal narrative that makes each person one of a kind. Dr. Nicholson shows that while our uniqueness is innate, much of it remains hidden, shaped through self-discovery, relationships, culture, and the stories we tell about our lives. Using his 4D framework Destiny, Drama, Deliberation, and Development he illustrates how life unfolds in unique, non-linear journeys and emphasizes that true fulfillment comes from embracing individuality rather than conforming to societal categories. Relationships act as mirrors for our UI, culture offers choices rather than dictates and acknowledging both our strengths and shadows is key to authenticity. Creativity, vision, and transcendence are peak expressions of UI, nurtured by supportive environments and reflective practices. In an age of rapid change, our human uniqueness our capacity for creativity, connection, and ethical living remains irreplaceable. Ultimately, our individuality is both a gift and a responsibility and embracing it while helping others do the same enriches ourselves, our communities, and the future. The Science of Helping Others: Insights from Dr. Zoe Kinias
Dr. Zoe Kinias, Associate Professor of Organizational Behaviour and Sustainability and John F. Wood Chair for Innovation in Business Education at Ivey Business School, Western University, shares thought-provoking insights from her research, “Receiving Social Support Motivates Long-Term Prosocial Behavior.” Prosocial behavior actions that benefit others is vital for a healthy society. While most research focuses on short-term effects, little is known about what drives long-term prosocial behavior. Drawing on attachment theory, we propose that receiving social support fosters prosocial behavior over time by enhancing felt security a sense of being safe, cared for, and loved. Across four studies using international alumni, U.S. adults, retrospective surveys, and experimental manipulations, we find consistent evidence that receiving social support increases long-term prosocial behavior, both in the environment where support is received and beyond. These results highlight felt security as a key mechanism linking social support to sustained prosociality. This podcast is brought to you by Global Management Consultancy.
