259. Leveling the Playing Field for Girls in Sport with Section Z Founder Stef Zeh and Amy Snow

In this episode, I am joined by Stef Zeh and Amy Snow, two remarkable advocates for women in sports. They are the visionaries behind Section Z, a nonprofit organization dedicated to leveraging the excitement of live sports to help girls develop confidence, competence, and collaboration skills.

Recently, Section Z unveiled the largest and most inclusive, multi-generational, cross-sectional study about the impact of playing, watching, and attending live sports on girls and women in America.The report is the result of a landmark survey of nearly 5,000 girls and women aged 9 to 75 about their participation and engagement in sports, the largest sample of American girls and women on this topic.

In this episode we discussed:

    • Socioeconomic barriers preventing girls from attending (and participating in) live sports events.
    • Section Z’s initiatives to counter these barriers, including transportation solutions and organizing trips to live sports games. Key findings from their recent study, highlighting generational differences, barriers to participation, and societal impact.

257. Lisa Thompson: Finding Elevation in Life & Sport

On today's episode, which may be my favorite conversation of all time, I sat down with Lisa Thompson who is a world-renowned mountaineer, author of Finding Elevation, and owner of Alpine Athletics. 


After her first Rainier summit in 2009, she knew that she wanted more. Her drive to learn and become a more skilled climber led her to climbs all over the world. In 2015, just before her first Himalayan expedition, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her diagnosis and eventual victory over cancer led Lisa to reprioritize her life and goals. In 2018 she became the second American woman to summit the savage mountain, K2, she also completed the seven summits in 2021.


Lisa is passionate about encouraging and supporting more women to explore and gain confidence in the mountains. Lisa also coaches mountain athletes of all levels to prepare physically, mentally and tactically for their next mountain adventure. In this episode we discussed:

  • Lisa's Journey and experiences on the tallest and most dangerous mountains in the world (Everest & K2)
  • How Lisa got into climbing mountains and what kept her coming back
