Welcome! We are Rachel and Charis, sisters and licensed clinical therapists with over thirty years of combined experience. In our personal and professional experiences we have learned how much we all have in common as women inhabiting this earth, and how often we struggle in silence and isolation. We invite you to come along with us as we come home to ourselves--engaging in the deconstruction of who we were told we were–be it because of traumas or familial or cultural messaging–and growing into the reconstruction of who we are truly meant to be. Look for new episodes every Tuesday.

The Therapy Sisters
It’s All Your Fault
In today’s episode The Therapy Sisters explore the idea that often is internalized among those who grew up in religious communities that, whenever something goes wrong, it must be your fault. Struggle with depression? Pray more! Life hands you something challenging? Must be because you’re not doing enough. Or the right thing. It’s exhausting and it isn’t true. Listen as they share their experiences around this, how they see this play out in the lives of their clients, and what you can do to help address this narrative in your own life.

The Therapy Sisters
Purity Culture and Women's Relationships With Their Bodies

Hello, and welcome back to The Therapy Sisters Podcast!

In today's episode, The Therapy Sisters discuss purity culture and some of the inherent messages young women internalized about their bodies as a result, including:

-Where shame about the body starts

-How the messaging within purity culture impacts the mind/body/emotion connection

-The "light switch effect" when women get married.

-How consent factors in

-How women's sexuality is largely left out of the conversation

-How young girls who grew up within purity culture are made responsible for the thoughts/actions/desires of men and how that plays out into their future sexual lives and relationships with their own bodies.

....and more!

Reclaiming Her Narrative: An Interview with Jaymie Bush

**A quick note: We had some challenges with the audio there at the end so this episode ends abruptly. It does end where the conversation wrapped up, but we understand it may feel sudden and wanted to give a heads up. Still, it doesn’t not detract from Jaymie’s inspiring message.

The Therapy Sisters welcome back friend and fellow clinician, Jaymie Bush. She shares her story of coming up in a legalistic and conservative religious environment, how she internalized narratives about her body and emotions and how she has reclaimed those in adulthood. Jaymie also shares how this impacts her clinical work with women who are on a similar path. Next week we will welcome another story as we continue to elevate women's voices and empower them toward reclamation of their stories. Want to connect? Us too! How to Assertively Communicate Your Boundaries Using DEAR MAN

Today is a minisode and Charis walks us through how to use the DEAR MAN tool from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy to approach conversations where you need to assertively ask for something or say no to something.

Deciding on a boundary is one thing. Communicating it is quite another. It can be challenging to know how to broach these conversations, but this tool provides a helpful framework from which to do so.
