Before you make your 2020 goals, go back and reflect on 2019. It doesn't matter if you didn't hit the goals you set last year. Your impact was far greater than you will ever know. You need to be proud of your impact and to really see it. Because what you see is just scratching the surface of who you’re helping. Take time to reflect on everything that happened and consider the impact you made in the last year. When you do that, you're able to show up every day trying a little harder to be at your best. And that's when the magic truly happens. You’ll never really know the extent of your impact. But you’re making it, especially when you’re not afraid to live authentically and share from your heart.

52: Role Modelling Healthy Work Attitudes for your Kids

The world of work is in flux. No doubt, our children will have a very different career reality than we do. As much as we want to prepare our kids with the right education, what will ultimately create their success is their outlook about work. The truth is, your kids’ perception about work is almost entirely influenced by you and your career.

Are you loving or hating your job right now? What attitudes are you bringing home from work?

Whatever you’re saying about your job, your leader, your direct reports, your company, your commute, or your clients...it’s all filling up their little heads and hearts.

Change your perspective about your current career, or decide to make the change that your kids will benefit from. Because you'll finally be happy and more fulfilled - and that's the life you want to model for your little ones. For show notes, visit www.careerfitmom.ca/episode52. 51: Harness the Connection Effect for Your Wellbeing - with Nadine Moffatt
Connections are crucial. I brought my friend Nadine Moffatt on the podcast today to chat about what I call the connection “effect”: an energy exchange that occurs when two or more people share experiences.  There are so many benefits to connecting with new and old friends. Relating to someone else’s stories is very grounding. Sharing ideas, resources, and perspectives is uplifting.  I encourage you to get out of your head and into your heart. Who do you feel like you should connect with? There’s a reason behind that feeling and that person needs to hear from you. Go ahead and light yourself up with a reach-out, a group event, or even host a party. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be you opening yourself up to the connection “effect”. I hope to see you at Connection Day on Sat. Nov. 9th, 2019. Visit www.careerfitmom.ca/events to purchase tickets.

49: Reinvent Your Career While on Maternity Leave with Natalia Harhaj

If you are considering a career change, and especially if you're on maternity leave, you'll appreciate this interview. My client Natalia went from feeling floundering and anxious with no career path and a unfulfilling job. She created major momentum in her professional life once she understood her transferrable skills and how they fit with her passions.

Despite a number of job search setbacks, Natalia persevered by staying positive.

  • She was the second place candidate more than once during the selection process.
  • She encountered discrimination because she was a mother.
  • She was laid off due to company restructuring after working in her new career for only 5 months.

Her career pivot resulted in:

  • A professional path she loves in Learning and Development.
  • A higher salary than she was making pre-baby.
  • A shorter commute and fewer draining hours.
  • A manager/mentor she is aligned with and a position in an organization that's fits with her values.
