There’s exposure, and then there’s intentional exposure. In anxiety recovery, it’s important to practice both intentional exposure (seeking out controlled exposures on purpose) and handling incidental exposures as they come up. But did you know it works best to focus on those two practices in a certain order? Find out which order is most effective, and get some wonderful actionable tools for both from real anxiety patient “Catherine” and Dr. Maggie in part 3 of this 4 part series.

Hindsight is 20/20. But it’s a wonderful feeling to look back on the past, knowing how differently things would have gone if we’d had the knowledge and tools back then that we have now, and will be even more proficient at using in the future. It’s even better to recognize that the limitations of the present are only temporary, and that by transforming our underlying belief systems (a.k.a. our B.S.) we can look forward to a future full of hope and freedom to live in line with our values. And that’s just part of the message of positive progress OCD and Anxiety patient “Larisa” shares with us in this 3rd episode of our 4-part series. Don’t miss it, and don’t keep it to yourself! Hope is meant to be shared.

#41 Exercise Caution, Real Therapy Session w/ Patient “Larisa,” Part 2 of 4

**Looking for a safe place online to practice the mental health improving tips from this episode? Join our Weekly Altruism Club for FREE at https://www.Huddle.Care The Altrusim Club is like a book club where you can virtually reflect on your mental health with others!**

Q: When is exercise unhealthy?

A: When it’s a compulsion to be challenged and resisted!

In this, our second session with real OCD and anxiety patient “Larisa,” Dr. Maggie reminds us that anything can be a compulsion, and anything can be an exposure, depending on how it functions for you. Even “good” and “healthy” behaviors can become problematic when we use them to avoid anxiety or emotional processing.

This month, we’re focusing on preparing for the anxious moment and trigger awareness. As you listen, think about some of your most common triggers, both internal and external, and what behavior those triggers compel you to engage in. For extra credit, ask yourself what the opposite of that activity would be.

Feeling brave? Try sharing one of your triggers in the comments!

But thanks to Dr. Maggie and Huddle, “Larisa” is getting comfortable with discomfort, avoiding avoidance, and transforming from a conflict-averse people-pleaser to finding real satisfaction in speaking her mind and being real with the people she cares about.
