Rick Suvanto: no time for sitting and no standing around.
Welcome back to Spinning Wheels, Parkinson's Conversations with Jim Here, hosted by Jim Redmond and engineered by Mike Loghrin. In today's episode, we're excited to introduce our guest, Rick Suvanto, from Toronto, Ontario. Not only is Rick diagnosed with PD but he is also an organizer of events big and small and an advocate for people with Parkinson's Disease. Join us as we discuss Rick's journey with Parkinson's that actually began with his mother. This experience helped Rick become more aware of potential PD symptoms that allowed him to recognize his symptoms when they appeared. Rick also discusses how he works on making the best out of a tough diagnosis: the keys are exercise and community. One way of achieving both those elements at the same time is an event that Rick helps organize in Toronto. It is called Stand Up To Parkinson's (the sit to stand challenge) and it is held on World Parkinson's Day, April 11th. A part of a world wide challenge initiated by the PD Avengers, Rick organizes the Toronto contingent. The world wide goal this year will be 2 million repetitions. Spinning Wheels, Parkinson's Conversations with Jim Here is brought to you in part by PD Tea: the healing power of tea applied to Parkinson's. It is also brought to you in part by Parkinson's Awareness and Action from Cornwall, Ontario. Links to these sponsors can be found at https://spinningwheelstour.ca/podcast... Mike and Darlene to the Rescue (Again!)
Welcome back to Spinning Wheels, Parkinson's Conversations with Jim Here, hosted by Jim Redmond and engineered by Mike Loghrin (Sorry, we're late but I'm getting use to the current running through me :) . In today's episode, we are continuing doing something just a little bit different! There are a few different reasons for this change. The first is that Mike is busy recovering from successful DBS surgery. He has had everything turned on but now the is some fine tuning to do in order for him to receive the best benefits. We are also excited to announce that there will be a Spinning Wheels, Relay to End Parkinson's Disease coming in the Summer of 2024! Because of these reasons, we decided to go back to the Spinning Wheels Tour for our inspiration for today's episode. Watch as Jim Redmond is replaced by Mike Loghrin and his wife Darlene. They deliver a YouTube Live from the Spinning Wheels Tour stopover in Regina, Saskatchewan. Jim and Steve were out biking and Mike and Darlene saved the day (again). This is probably the best Live of the Spinning Wheels Tour.
