It was unusual that Bernice Warden was not behind the cash register as customers took turns entering the general store. Then they remembered it was the first day of deer hunting season, so maybe she was out in the field trying her luck.
However, when Deputy Frank Warden showed up to say hello to his mother, Bernice, he noticed something the others had not. The cash register was missing. A rifle was not in it's place on the shelf. There was blood on the floor. A receipt showed the previous day's last sale - a purchase of antifreeze. It told the Deputy who he needed to talk to for answers. but it could never have told him what he'd find when that conversation came to fruition.
As officers made their way to the outbuilding, they were met with twilight. Armed with flashlights and apprehension, they found Bernice. She was hanging nude, beheaded, from the rafters on Ed Gein's property. She had been slaughtered as one would slaughter an animal. Unfortunately for the officers, they were unaware that they would only find worse things as they made their way through the house.
This bizarre and terrifying saga is one that starts with isolation, abuse, and fanatical prudence - but ends with grave robbing, murder, and the need for one man to not only idolize his mother, but BECOME her.
Join Andrea Up Late and Brian Sanders as they explore the complexities of a man who had reality twisted in such a way, the hair on your neck will stand up.

PART 2 - Interview With Steve Hodel: Andrea and Brian sit down with a retired LAPD detective who has investigated this case for over two decades - and finds his father to be guilty of the heinous murder. Watch this week as we sit down with Steve Hodel to discuss his childhood, father, and the results of this wild investigation. Season 4 Episode 2:When Betty Bersinger took a morning stroll with her daughter, she thought it odd that a disassembled mannequin would be lying by the sidewalk near her home. But the horrific reality was that it was the corpse of Elizabeth Short. Elizabeth's porcelain skin, raven black hair, ice blue eyes, and crimson lips were striking. But no more so than the condition of her corpse, mutilated, when found lying in two parts. The Glasgow smile, missing skin, and bisected body would fuel the nightmares of journalists and first responders for years. In 1940's Hollywood, Cary Grant, Humphrey Bogart, and Bette Davis were headliners. But one young woman from Massachusetts was making her way. Elizabeth "Beth" Short was a young woman with family on each side of country. A lung condition forced her to seek warm air and to remove herself from the harsh climate of the northeast winters. After a prolonged estrangement from her father, Elizabeth set out to once again experience the west coast and establish her identity. But a string of failed relationships and one hardship after another left her often seeking a warm meal and shelter where it could be found. Unfortunately, her life was cut short when she fell into the company of a still unknown suspect. Her blood was drained, empty concrete bags were littered, and multiple taunting letters sent to the LAPD - yet this case remains officially unsolved. The spring of 2011 was starting to warm up the rural west Tennessee community of Decatur County. 20 year old Holly Bobo was in a serious relationship, lived at home with her loving family, and was studying to become a nurse.
On the morning of April 13, Holly woke before dawn to get some last minute studying done. She said goodbye to both her mother and father as they each left for work. She then eventually gathered her backpack and lunch and headed out the door, never to be seen again.
Her sleeping brother, Clint, was woken by Holly's dog barking relentlessly. Stumbling through the home and peeking out windows, Clint heard Holly crying, and saw two figures in the carport. He then saw Holly with a man heading into the woods.
But miscommunication and misunderstanding prevailed that morning. Clint had no idea that he was witnessing his sister's abduction in real time. Years later, a series of charges were brought about. Convictions were made. Charges were dropped. Stories were changed. Counsel was admittedly ineffective. And the one man not convicted? A documented stalker, and more importantly, a sexual deviant, that lived not far away. His alibi doesn't hold up. DNA, cadaver dogs, and cell phone tracking - oh my.Join Andrea Up Late and Brian Sanders as they dissect this case from start to finish. Maybe bring a pencil to keep track of the madness.

Season 3 Episode 33:
It was February of 1995. Jon Feeney was a high school chemistry teacher, and his wife Cheryl was a respected nurse in the gynecological surgery team at the local Cox Hospital. Together they had two children: 6 year old Tyler, and 18 month old Jennifer.
Jon set out for a teacher's conference retreat in nearby Lake of the Ozarks, and nothing was ever the same. After family phone calls went unanswered, a well meaning call was made to law enforcement to check on Cheryl and the children.
What was found inside the home chilled first responders to the core. All three were savagely slain. Jon had not been home, and no suspect seemed immediately obvious. But time went on, and Jon's alibi seemingly unraveled. The scene was that out of a movie, staged to an extreme degree. Painted messages on the wall. Cheryl's waterbed temperature on the highest setting. And so, so much more.
As rumors spread about Jon's reputation around other women, and more importantly- students in his school, a new motive was formed.
30 years later, there has been no conviction. But what do you think?

Season 3 Episode 30: Update in the ongoing investigation:It has been one month since Jack and Lilly Sullivan, ages 4 and 6, disappeared from their rural Nova Scotia home. The children's mother and stepfather claim the two must have "wandered outside to play." They state that immediately upon realizing the children were not just outside their home, they called 911. And they quickly speculated abduction. However, the lead investigators on the case stated from the very beginning they aren't led to believe the children had been taken, and most recently, scaled back search efforts in a massive way. They did this with the language that they are focusing on "more specific areas" and state they wouldn't be doing this if they believe the children to be alive. We have missing school days, electronics searches, and dogs, drones, divers, oh my. Social media profile changes and the decision their mother made to leave the family home, leave some with suspicions. The step father's constant on air presence leaves others uneasy. Or was this a tragic accident?
Join Andrea and Brian as they comb trough this ever-developing story of two children that simply need to be found. We will continue to bring updates as they come. Season 3 Episode 29:In the rural town of Canadian, Texas, in 2016, the Thanksgiving holiday brought with it big questions, but no answers. Tom Brown was enjoying his senior year of high school, with plans of likely pursuing a broadcasting career. He and his friends were eagerly anticipating the Thanksgiving holiday and having time off to hang out, listen to music, and drive all over town. But the night took a drastic turn. After saying goodbye to his friends, Tom drove away to get home in time for curfew, however he was never seen again. His abandoned Durango was found the next morning in an area of town not many knew about, and it included a visible streak of blood. Fresh urine was just outside the driver's door. And most intriguing, a .25 caliber shell casing was found inside the truck. But what wasn't found, was Tom. The local sheriff's department took the lead, but it wasn't long until pushback from the citizens changed the course of the investigation. The personalities, egos, and theories of local deputies, private investigators, FBI, Texas Rangers, and the Attorney General's office, were all in a tussle to solve the mystery first. That is, until the AG's office suspended the case. But WHY?Tune in to Nightshift as Andrea Up Late and Brian Sanders comb through this case in two episodes. Season 3 Episode 27:
In the rural panhandle region of Texas, not much was going on the night before Thanksgiving in 2016. Tom Brown and his friends did what any kids would be doing their senior year of high school- burning down the roads.
Tom had recently broken up with his girlfriend and quit the football team, but he was enjoying time in his drama class and acting role as student body president.
The night in question began with Tom and his friends driving all over town, listening to music, and making plans for the future . But that was the last night Tom was ever seen alive .
So much is involved in this mystery, and not the least of which are the main investigators: The local sheriff, and his nemesis... the family-hired PI.
Very suspicious circumstances surround every bit of this case. But while a bullet casing was found, blood was present, and fresh urine went untested-the Texas Attorney General's office refute it all and maintain there is no evidence of foul play. In fact ,they call the investigation of Tom's death SUSPENDED. But refuse to say why.
Join Andrea Up Late and Brian Sanders as they try to put together a puzzle that is lacking too many pieces.

Season 3 Episode 26:
*DISCLAIMER: WE PRESUME DEFENDANTS INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN OTHERWISE*We brought you parts 1-3 last year of covering the suspicious death of Grant Solomon. In July of 2020, 18 year old Grant Solomon was found lifeless under his pickup truck. His father being the sole witness. Or was he? Either way, the police chief has yet to identify what he says were other witnesses. As in, not at all. The only thing we have is Grant's father's account of his death - that an independent forensic team has deemed impossible based on the orientation of Grant's body in relation to the truck and the parking lot. You may also want to look into employees at the school he attended with his sister, Gracie. The church their father attended, to include local politicians and small time celebrities. Remember that Tennessee, where the Solomon's lived, is a "mandatory reporting" state. By his sister Gracie's own admission, she visited more than one staff member during her time as a student to report the specific abuse she was suffering under her father's care. Yet not one of the employees reported her claims. There is so so much more to it all, to which I would encourage you to watch Season 2, Episodes 24-26, to fully understand the interwoven grief, manipulation, power grabs, elbow rubbing, and at the very least, inept investigations. But now sadly, we have a very large update to bring you. Angie Solomon, the tireless defender of Grant's death, and safe keeper of Gracie as she approaches adulthood, mother of both, is facing a very different life now. An arrest was made, but it may not be who you think. Watch Nightshift as Andrea and Brian revisit the Solomon family. Watch Nightshift live every Tuesday on the Andrea Up Late YouTube channel. Season 3 Episode 25 - UNSOLVED
On a hilltop in rural east Tennessee, puppies and kittens ran amuck, grandma lived close to the family, and five year old Summer Wells had to crawl down a dark ladder to her mattress on the floor in the basement. In June of 2021, Summer's mother assisted her grandmother to the doctor with the companionship of a 15 year old male family friend. After visiting the drug store, vape shops, a grocery store, and local watering hole, the group heads home. Not long after that, Summer vanished and has never been seen again. Amongst a broad reaching investigation, allegations began to fly. Where exactly were Summer's three brothers that entire day?Was her father at work as claimed? UNSOLVED with UPDATES
Season 3 Episode 24
"We heard a woman scream at just after four this morning."
Her apartment was left unremarkable, outside of the raised toilet lid. That sticks out simply because she lived alone. But the parking lot near her car? That is where a struggle ensued.

Investigators follow up on a welfare check to find her shoes, earrings, and other belongings strewn near her beloved new car. Including drag marks and a bent key.

"I buried her head in the garden face up, toward my mother's room. After all, my mother always wanted people to look up to her."
Ed Kemper has intrigued psychiatrists, behaviorists, and the general public for decades. Committing his first two murders at just 15 years old, Ed set down a path that only ended when he was ready. And when that time came, he let everything be known. Born to an alcoholic mother and a father that had served in WWII, Ed's odd behaviors and hulking size set him apart at a very early age. But whether he was dodging a belt to the face, or killing the family pets, he was always seeking his mother's approval. He was always met with the opposite, in the harshest of ways. Dubbed the "co-ed killer," the 6 foot 9 inch Ed made his way through Santa Cruz between 1972 and 1973, dealing misplaced revenge. Ultimately totaling 10 victims. But nothing was silenced, until his mother.
Tune in to Nightshift and hear how this man revolutionized the way in which psychiatrists and investigators studied and worked alongside serial murderers. And still do.
Join Andrea Up Late and Brian Sanders as they recount Ed Kemper's murders, and discuss his motivation. This larger than life presence also boasted an IQ of 145.
