This was a truly wonderful conversation and episode with John Lockley
John is a fully initiated and ordained Sangoma (African Shaman) in two lineages from South Africa, the Xhosa and Swazi nations. He is the author of the book 'Leopard Warrior', and audio teachings 'The Way of the Leopard', both published by Sounds True. His Xhosa apprenticeship took 10 years and he was foreseen in a dream by his teacher, MaMngwevu, a senior Xhosa sangoma from the same tribe as Nelson Mandela, who invited him to be her apprentice.
According to John’s Xhosa elders he was one of the first white men in recent times in the Xhosa nation after Apartheid, to be awarded the title of 'Ligqira Linkulu' , meaning senior sangoma. His Xhosa name given by his teacher is 'Ucingolweendaba', meaning 'the messenger or bridge between cultures'. He has pioneered the bridge between modern western Psychology and traditional South African healing. For the last 17 years he has been facilitating 'Ubuntu' (Humanity) and Way of the Leopard retreats worldwide, teaching people how they can reconnect to their Ancestors, Spirit and the Earth.
A passion of John's is teaching people indigenous African medicine to help them reconnect to the earth. He facilitates this through his 'Dreams & Tracking' retreats in the Kalahari Desert every year. John holds an honours degree in Clinical Psychology. He is also a Zen meditation practitioner with over 30 years of experience. He took Buddhist precepts with Zen Master Su Bong from South Korea in 1992. John offers private divination and healing sessions online, as well as group oriented monthly ceremonies.
A core part of John’s work is helping people with spiritual poverty. He speaks about the importance of people connecting to their immortality, or soul. He facilitates these teachings through meditation and indigenous practices that encompass animal and plant worlds as well as ancestor and dream work. He now splits his time between South Africa, Botswana (Kalahari Desert) and Canada. In April 2025 John was made an elder sangoma medicine man by his Xhosa teachers in the Eastern Cape, South Africa. This was a celebration of over 29 years of being a sangoma and running healing retreats worldwide.
John will be in Ireland in December hosting a talk and work shop get in touch with me darragh@innerwork.ie to join.

In this episode of Inner Insights, Darragh Stewart sits down with Celtic wisdom keeper Mari Kennedy for a deep and soulful exploration of feminine remembrance, the Celtic Wheel of the Year, and what it means to live in right relationship with the masculine and feminine in our modern world.Mari shares her powerful journey from the “good girl” and high-performing woman of modern Ireland to a sovereign teacher of cyclical living, rooted in the rhythms of nature and the ancient wisdom of the land. Together, they explore how the Celtic Wheel offers a map for personal transformation, conscious leadership, and collective healing, and how embracing darkness, rest, and the cycles of nature can help us rebalance in these times of global change. This is a conversation about remembrance, embodiment, and returning home — to the Earth, to the body, and to the deep feminine within us all.Linkshttps://www.marikennedy.com/https://www.instagram.com/marikennedywisdom/
This week I had the absolute honour of sitting down with Tommy Ó Conghaile – Irish language writer, translator, cultural organiser and someone whose work feels especially important in Ireland right now.
Together, we journeyed into the revival of the Irish language, the role of plant medicine, and the deep connection between culture, healing, and spirituality.
Tommy grew up in South Armagh during the Troubles. For him, discovering Gaeilge wasn’t just about learning a language, it was about reconnecting to identity, ancestry, and belonging.
Over the years he has explored how language itself can be a form of medicine – a way to heal intergenerational wounds and rekindle the light within us that colonial history tried to dim.
We spoke about:
✨ How shame around our language and culture has disconnected us from our power✨ The revival of Irish and why it’s about so much more than words✨ Plant medicine, psychedelics, and ancestral healing✨ The spiritual essence carried in Irish words and sounds✨ What it means to take space, reclaim sovereignty, and reconnect to land and spirit
This is a conversation about identity, soul, and remembering who we are. Whether you grew up speaking Gaeilge or only know cúpla focal, this episode will inspire you to reflect on the deeper roots of our culture, and the gifts that come with reconnecting to them.
More about TomaíTomaí Ó Conghaile is an Irish language writer, translator and organiser from outside Newry in South Armagh. He is the founder of culture magazine NÓS, has presented on the BBC and TG4, campaigned for language rights in the North of Ireland and worked for the European Union in Brussels. For almost 10 years he has been exploring the therapeutic capacity of language revitalisation and how plant medicine and spiritual practices can assist in personal and collective healing. He is currently writing his first book, a travel and healing memoir, titled ‘Ar Thóir na Gréine’ (In Search of the Sun).

More on Peter
Approaching the acceptance of realised Adept, and the embracement of a Western master, I combine all traditions of wisdom and its application through the one applied conscious embodiment of All that I am and do. Deeply versed in the Hermetic traditions rooted in All cultures, I operate in the combination of All in the One as a philosopher, Alchemist, Mystic, Magi, Theurgist and Occultist; devoutly versed in the language of symbolism and which I use to navigate higher planes of consciousness. Guided in bringing the sacred and ancient wisdom in their true, pure and Divine sense, as directed by the conscious hierarchy of The Great White Brotherhood, I navigate deeply my own journey of darkness on this infinite path. Sharing this unveiled wisdom in guidance to others, I have achieved realisation of my past initiations, and now share the seeding for Westerners as we prepare for the transition from the 4th to 5th root race of humanity. Author of two books, “The Phoenix Birth” and “The Saturated Breath”, both channelled in my true expression symbolically, these activate as a guide to the reader, unveiling deep realisations from the subconscious mind. I also teach the ancient and sacred ways of Hermeticism, Symbolism, Tarot, Kabbalah; the wisdom of the Mystery Schools, to seed for this evolutionary stage through my online ancient mystery school “The Temple Of Thoth/Horus” and in courses, ceremonies, retreats and sessions

What a great episode on the Journey of highs and lows of reaching success with my good friend Matthias. We talk about a lot in this podcast from burnout to success, doing the inner work, emotional mastery and living a life of purpose. I hope you all enjoy.
Matthias co-founded two thriving companies in tech and events straight out of university, achieving financial success but finding himself in a deep state of misery—battling panic attacks, drinking problems, and compulsive sex and porn use. Despite his external achievements, he felt completely empty and disconnected.
Realizing that money alone wasn’t the answer, he made the bold decision to exit and search for what was missing. For a while, he felt on top of the world—until everything crumbled. A year-long depression followed, marked by suicidal thoughts and a profound identity crisis. He had lost his hunger, his sense of self, and his purpose.
The turning point came when he sought guidance from a mentor and recognized that he had been living out of alignment with his true self. He finally faced his fears, insecurities, and patterns of seeking external validation—something he continues to work on to this day.
Through deep inner work, including meditation, nervous system regulation, NLP, life coaching, and other transformational tools, Matthias found his way from darkness to joy, purpose, and fulfilment. Now, he channels his hard-earned wisdom into coaching programs, speeches, and workshops, working with founders and conscious leaders to help them build lives in full alignment with their highest mission.

In this episode of Inner Insights, I sit down with my good friend David, founder of Mantra Menswork, to explore his powerful journey from emotional isolation to deep connection and purpose.
David’s story is one many men will recognise. Struggling with depression, feeling disconnected, and hitting rock bottom after becoming a father. Instead of being filled with love, he was drowning in self-doubt, burnout, and despair. Traditional therapy wasn’t enough. The isolation only deepened.
Everything changed when he discovered breathwork, embodiment practices, and, most importantly, the power of men’s community. He found that true healing didn’t come from sitting alone in a therapist’s office but from standing shoulder-to-shoulder with other men, sharing struggles, and holding each other accountable.
This led him to create Mantra Menswork, a movement helping men break free from outdated models of masculinity, reconnect with their emotions, and step into their authentic selves. We discuss the crisis of male isolation, why so many men feel lost despite seeking help, and how genuine brotherhood can transform lives.
David’s work is about creating spaces where men can drop their masks, support one another, and cultivate real strength—the kind that comes from vulnerability, not suppression.
This conversation is raw, real, and necessary. If you’ve ever felt disconnected or know a man who is struggling, this episode is a must-listen.
Join us as we dive deep into the power of connection, healing, and the path to a more embodied, purposeful life.
