On today’s episode I boost my favourite show of the year (and pandemic), The White Lotus. Then one of my oldest friends, Ari (MD) joins me for a Bachelorette finale recap. We get serious discussing how change and challenge boasts self-exploration and discovery. As a psychiatry resident Ari describes how her personality & life experiences led her to her career; and we get into the topic of compatibility in relationships. The big finale of the episode - our opinions on our astrological signs compared to how we perceive ourselves. Are we believers in astrology? Do we truly embody our signs? Tune in to find out, have some fun exploring your zodiac, & let us know what you think!

Speaking with social worker, Hannah Lin, from the Hyphenated Nation podcast on how her hyphenated identity (dual identity) has impacted her growing up and in the workplace; as well as her mental health and how she defines herself. We discuss microaggressions and negative attitudes in our society and institutions; and explore ways to address microaggressions and indignities of stigmatized and culturally marginalized groups. Hannah and I have an in-depth conversation about our lowest moments and our mental health, specifically during times of change in our lives. We talk about the importance of self-exploration, reaching out for support from friends and family, therapyyy, and honouring who you are (the good, the bad; the things you love, and the things you're working on). If you've ever wondered what we talk about with our therapists, here's your chance to get in on some of the action. Enjoy!

Have you ever backed away from sharing your feelings or opinions with someone due to a fear of judgement, rejection, or emotional harm? If so, give this episode a listen and see if my guest, Lani (MD) and I can help you re-examine that mindset. Today's topic of discussion is vulnerability. Psychologist, Brene Brown, argues that vulnerability is not about weakness, but rather, is an act of courage, realness, honesty, and risk, that drives innovation, creativity, change, love, and belonging. A longtime friend of mine, Lani, joins to share a personal story of vulnerability - speaking on being a cancer survivor at a public charity event (which was totally out of her comfort zone); and how being open has led her to being less fearful of judgement. We also bring it back to being a friendships, dating, and relationships and discuss how and why putting yourself in a vulnerable position leads to self-growth and being a better empathizer; and when we HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND putting yourself in a vulnerable position. Tune in for a personal, but relatable, episode :)

Calling all my independent (and dependent) women & men! My friend, Deborah, a teacher and leader in her community, is here to share how being brought up to be independent has been both advantageous to her career and relationships. First, we dive into her story moving to Canada from Venezuela during her adolescence, the "who am I?" and "what is my role?" stage of psychosocial development (hello, Erik Erikson's stages of psychosocial development). Deborah then discusses how she guides her students in being more confident and willing to take initiative in their work and life-skills. And the most juicy part... Deb and I have a conversation as two self-proclaimed independent people, who also accept the support of a partner (and sometimes depend on them for all kinds of love and support) when in a relationship; as well as why time is such a valuable thing you can give to anyone, but especially, your significant other. Enjoy :)

Inspired by a date who was adamant that you CANNOT get back with someone you previously had a relationship with... this episode is all about my friend, Rebecca, and her boyfriend's reconnection(s), and current relationship. While there are many reasons to leave a person and never look back, and while it's so important to grieve, heal, have fun, and move forward after a breakup, there are instances where two people once in love, never completely lose interest in one another, even after years of separation. This is one of those. This isn't an invitation to call your ex and tell them you miss them, this is a discussion about loss, pain, being true to yourself, taking risks, guarding your heart, and opening it again. Hey, crazier things have happened!

Emily explains why she left a job she was interested in, and how her graduate work ties into her new job. When should you quit a job that isn’t working for you? What might be the key to contentment that lie outside of the job? Are you working to live, living to work, or figuring it out? Tune in to reflect and think about it all...
