Emotional Resiliency: The Deep Feelers Guide to Holding Space for Yourself with Michelle McIntosh (Part 2)

Questions explored:

  • What is ‘Unmasking?’
  • The two sides to self-exploration and development
  • The difference between grief and loss
  • The importance of community and circle when exploring and expressing emotions
  • Viktor Frankl’s perspective of “space between stimulus and reaction.”

TW: Grief, Sexual Abuse

This week’s episode of the HumanAF Podcast is a continuation of Keri-Anne and her close friend and ADHD life coach, Michelle McIntosh’s conversation surrounding emotions.

Michelle starts the conversation with her personal experience of unmasking and discovering Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD), highlighting the validation that came with understanding this aspect of herself. Keri-Anne expands on this to highlight the importance of self-exploration, emphasizing that it offers an opportunity to acknowledge vulnerabilities in relationships. It can be challenging to embrace, especially when met with the possibility of losing relationships with those who may not be ready to accept the resulting self-development. The silver lining is the possibility to deepen these connections to new heights.

Keri-Anne and Michelle emphasize the power of authenticity in breaking down walls and creating more meaningful connections through parts work: a concept which helps identify the values associated with different beliefs or behaviours.

Michelle’s mentions of Viktor Frankl’s perspective on the space between stimulus and reaction propelled the conversation towards emotional reactivity and the privilege that can surround emotional experiences such as grief.

This episode will resonate deeply with anyone who has ever grappled with the complexities of their own emotions. Don’t miss out on this transformative and soul-stirring discussion!

About Michelle:

Michelle McIntosh is a Certified Orton-Gillingham Practitioner and Executive Function Coach. Michelle’s journey took an incredible turn when she learned about her son’s ADHD diagnosis closely followed by her own ADHD diagnosis. This personal experience has ignited her passion for understanding the intricate world of ADHD from within. Michelle’s core belief is that there is no one-size-fits-all solution to navigating ADHD. It’s not just about planners and timers; it’s about uncovering YOUR unique path to success across all areas of your life. Michelle spends her days navigating the depths of the learning process, helping neurodiverse learners find clarity and progress.

  • How we are each a pinhole the universe is trying to push through.
  • Are we here to shame and blame? Or are we here to learn?
  • What does acceptance mean for you? How will you be with it?

Welcome to this throwback episode of The HumanAF Podcast, recorded live from a café in Vancouver, BC. In this candid conversation, we explore the concept of loneliness as an essential, yet often overlooked, part of the human experience.

In this episode, we’ll share examples of how moments of doubt, hesitation, avoidance, and distraction often have their roots in loneliness. Embracing these aspects as gateways to healing, learning, and growth is key. If you’re ready to redefine loneliness and discover what it’s urging you to embrace on your unique life journey, have a listen. You might find unexpected insights in this relatable space we’ve all experienced.

The Empath's Story

Questions Explored:

  • What does it mean to be N.I.C.E?
  • Were Empaths born to be sacrificed?
  • As Empaths, what are our responsibilities, our purpose?

"During a confrontational coaching session in 2016, I blurted out these words: 'But that's why I came here.' It was a moment of startling self-awareness, as I realized that, like so many other deep feelers, I allowed myself to be used, and often abused, for the comfort and wellbeing of others. This revelation hit me like a ton of bricks and brought with it a vivid metaphor of being a 'sacrificial lamb,' Left wondering questions rarely admitted out loud like, “Was my sole purpose on this earth to be sacrificed? Am I destined only to absorb other people's pain?”
In this episode, I revisit a live call I did a few years ago diving into the familiar feelings experienced by highly sensitive individuals and the common misconceptions surrounding empaths and their purpose. I share my personal journey of learning to trust my intuition and uncover a perspective that completely shifted my understanding and hopefully yours too! Get ready to release that old story and reclaim your rightful place at the table, allowing yourself to serve others from a cup that overflows with abundance after listening.”

Learning Life Lessons and Self-Help Burnout with Michelle McIntosh

Questions explored:

  • Is it me… am I the drama?
  • How can I learn what I came here to learn, without burning myself out in the process?
  • Is there such a thing as personal development or healing burnout?
  • How else can we approach learning lessons without getting stuck in a victim mindset?
  • Why do the lessons and the learning have to come in such hard packages?

If you've ever felt like you've had enough of life's lessons and are ready for the good part, then you're in the right place. Join us as we delve into the topic of learning and the toll it can take on those seeking truth, freedom, and healing. Learning packs a punch, but does it have to be so challenging, and how can we make the process easier on those tough days? Get ready for some real talk as we unravel the mysteries of why we learn the way we do and how to avoid ending up in total burnout.

Our guest for today’s discussion is my dear friend, Michelle McIntosh, a Certified Orton-Gillingham Practitioner and Executive Function Coach. The irony here is that while her life’s purpose revolves around guiding people through various learning experiences, she’s here to explore the very real burnout and soul-level exhaustion that can arise from self-discovery, spirituality, healing your shadow, and personal development ‘work.’ Join us as we uncover the intricacies of this journey.
