In this podcast clip, I chat with author Jessie Bradford about human trafficking and his time working for the Texas DOC. Being in Houston near the border and working in a prison, Jessie spent considerable time with human traffickers. He not only interviewed the traffickers, but he managed to speak with some of the victims and turn these stories into a novel titled: "In the House of the Lord" (Book link below.)While I have no idea what to do about human trafficking, I imagine that it begins with a general awareness and discussion. What do you do when the only daycare in your town shuts down? Rally the troops and build a new one! This is the story of a small community in the Northwoods of WI who are all coming together to build a new daycare/school to serve their community, with everyone contributing their unique skills to actualize this vision. There are carpenters, attorneys, accountants, teachers, and people involved in the natural sciences all coming together to not just rebuild, but to create an entire curriculum that involves exploration of the local landscape. This beautiful and pristine area has so much to offer in terms of ecology, science, forestry, and conservation, and the new curriculum is going to have a large element of hands-on learning with field trips to the woods, nearby creek, and community's discovery center. So much about this story is incredible and inspiring, and I am so thankful to have this conversation and learn about the amazing things people can do together when they combine their unique passions, skills, and creativity. I'm learning that bad days are necessary, but the key is how we use them. On a bad day, you may feel motivated to seek out anything to make you feel better. Instead of turning to a destructive place, try searching for a solution in the realm of information. If you look in places you may not normally go, you may find exactly what you need. Regarding King Solomon: instead of asking for wealth, fame, and a long life, he asked for the wisdom he needed to lead his people and serve. God was impressed with this young man having the wisdom to seek wisdom, and God answered this prayer. Once Solomon had the wisdom, God gave him incredible wealth, fame, and a long life, because he was a man who could properly wield these blessings to serve his people and the world. That is why we still speak of him. Perhaps it is not that God won't allow you to be rich. Perhaps God knows better than to allow any of us to be rich and stupid at the same time. Seek wisdom first, and your wealth/success will be blessings for everyone, not a curse to you and others. #thoughtoftheday

Here is a weird observation: there is a massive spiritual awakening happening, and people are turning to all manner of places because they can feel it in their souls that there is more to this life; however, at the very same time, there are so many tragic stories in the news, and the water seems to almost be at a boil. But what if these two realities are inextricably linked? If you have never heard of a Herxheimer reaction, this is a phenomenon where a person dealing with a chronic and longstanding illness finally finds an effective treatment, but begins to get sicker. This is common in treating Lyme disease, where the right antibiotic or oregano oil can cause massive inflammation and hives (making the patient appear to grow sicker) as the Lyme bacteria is being drawn to the surface and the body is reacting to its being filtered out. What if this is exactly what we are observing in the news? It occurs to me that none of these news stories are really new: human trafficking, war, scandals, etc., they are simply new to the public. In other words, what if this great spiritual awakening is forcing humanity's darkness to the surface and shining a light on it for it to finally be dealt with? If you are in a desperate situation within your marriage, and your spouse is either not thriving or not holding up their end, here is a radical shift that could change everything. Instead of continuing to express your desperation and continue to break down your spouse and yourself, what if you envisioned your spouse as their best possible version (based on moments you've witnessed where they were happy, hardworking, sweet, confident, etc.) and you spoke to them as if they are that person? The key is to build people up and encourage their greatness, not to focus on all the ways they are falling short. If you have spent months or years advocating for what you want and need and have not seen any meaningful changes, try this radical shift in your own consciousness and mindset.
