Finally, I published another episode!! This one is on my popular series… leadership. Much of the information I come across comes from the podcasts that I listen to and I take notes on these. And after compiling endless notes on key takeaways I’ve learned over the years, I’ve created a podcast notes archives. This episode I tap into these and deliver some powerful and applicable information that you can use at you job. I unpack information on maneuver warfare and how it works in leadership. Also, I’ve taken countless notes on how to set better goals which I expand on in this episode. These only scratch the surface on the plethora of my podcast notes archives. Hopefully more episodes to come from my archives. Another information source that I’m fortunate to get is directly from experienced leaders that I work with. I take notes on these types of conversations I have with them and I add these tips to my podcast notes archives as well. In this episode, I talk about how a supervisor coached me on developing better judgement and what key takeaways I learned from that to apply and excel at work. 16- Cope, Learn, Cherish - Life with terminally ill family
Terminal Illness is a horrible thing to be dealt with in life and it is also difficult on the family. Between stress, frustrating communication, negative energy and not knowing what to do about the terminal illness, family members can enter a very dark time in their lifes. Fortunately, there is a better way to process this information. By staying on the path (as @JockoWillink talks about in his podcasts) you can train your mind and body to better cope, learn and cherish the time spent with your terminally ill loved one(s). By educating yourself on the specific terminal illness, you become better equipped with what to expect from your family member suffering from their illness and how to prevent it from happening to you. By reframing how you communicate with your ill family member, you can work around the frustrations you might have and unlock new ways to communicate. All this is needed to manage the stress of this hardship of caring for a sick family member. My mom has had Alzheimer’s for quite some time now and it has been challenging on everyone to cope with the stress this brings to our family. In this podcast, I read a letter I wrote to a friend who recently found out their loved one was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. I hope you find this podcast motivational to stay on the path, to invest in yourself, get educated, and learn how you communicate with them better so you can level up your abilities to better cope/learn/cherish your time spent with your terminally ill loved one. 14- Sometimes I Struggle with…Pep Talks to get me out of my Destructive Ways of Thinking.
We all see those photos of people on social media with their smiling faces on a tropical beach somewhere and we question ourselves if we have made some wrong moves in our life's. We feel our struggles are only what a select small few endure while everyone else appears to be so happy. The reality is, this is far from the truth. We all struggle, we all suffer in this world yet we don't hear about it. People suffer in silence. And this only makes matters worst. In this revealing episode I get vulnerable. I talk about some of my struggles in life. But more importantly, I provide my self talks, my pep talks that I say to myself to pull me out of the negative destructive thought patterns that all of us are susceptible to. 13- Interviewing (part-2) Example Interview Responses.
Stories stick. Weather someone shares their stories of their failures, or of their successes these are lessons that have stuck with me. I’ve learned so much from some of my favorite podcast hosts on how they answer leadership style questions via their examples and stories. With the countless example responses I’ve heard over the years that might pop up on a typical interview along with the research I’ve done, in this episode I share with you my stories of my career in the form of a mock interview. I provide my example responses to all the typical questions that would most likely show up on your next interview. I’m hoping that through the power of my examples and stories, that this episode could help level up your interviewing ability. However, to get good at interviewing it requires more than just listening to a podcast or two. It requires continuous research, practice and learning from your failures. Most of my answers are deeply rooted in the many leadership books and podcasts I’ve listened to over the years and they serve as the backbone to many of my answers. I wish you the best of luck in your future interview endeavors. I must give kudos (and there are plenty others not mentioned) to some of those sources that have helped provide good leadership tactics for me in one way or another: Books: • Extreme Ownership (written by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin) • The Dichotomy of Leadership (written by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin) • What Great Bosses Know (written by Jill Gisler) Podcasts: • Jocko Podcast • What Great Bosses Know • 7 Minute Leadership Podcast • The Tim Ferriss Show • The Up and Comers Show Time Start Agenda 0:00:53 - Intro 0:07:17 - What this podcast is about 0:10:34 - Q1- Why do you want this job 0:16:10 - Q2- What is your leadership style 0:21:33 - Q3- What are your strengths 0:33:14 - Q4- Tell us about a mistake you made and how you handled it 0:35:34 - Q5- Tell us how you handle difficult employees 0:39:51 - Q6- Your boss asks you to do something you disagree with, how do you respond 0:44:11 - Q7- What are your weaknesses 0:48:57 - Conclusion

12- Interviewing (part-1) w/ Tommy Lake. Unpacking Candidate Selection Criteria.
The reality is most bosses are looking for a particular set of skills and characteristics in the candidate they select for the position at their company, and if someone doesn’t discover these advantages they may get out matched by a candidate that they simply should have beat. Too often people think that an interview is just about what you can do the week or two leading up to it. Which is important and we talk about that in this episode, but we also talk about the long game on what you should do months or even years out to help you be the best fit candidate for that future promotion opportunity. With my tireless efforts to research and get educated on this topic and my brother Tommy Lake’s experience being on the judges’ side of table for countless amounts interviews, we unpack what is known as the selection criteria in this episode. One could imagine each element of this criteria as a symbolic piece of the pie and the more you contribute to the pie as a whole the more likely you’ll land that next job. Tommy and I get flowing on this informative topic. Whether you’re trying to level up your interviewing skills as a candidate, you want the knowledge on how to pick the best candidate as a judge or you just want to hear some good leadership advice as someone trying to level up their leadership abilities, this episode has no shortage of engaging topics and applicable skills to help you dominate your life. Part-2 of this interviewing series will be on interview responses in a mock interview I plan to present on. Candidate Selection Criteria website link: https://www.thebalancecareers.com/how-does-an-employer-decide-who-to-hire-2062876 Specific questions we talk about: • Would the individual fit in with the colleagues in their department? • Does the finalist have an appealing personality? Would we enjoy working with her? • Does the candidate possess the skills necessary to excel in the job? • Does the individual have the appropriate depth and type of prior experience? • Does the candidate have the technical proficiency to get the job done? • Does the applicant possess the licenses and/or certificates required for the job? • Does the individual have the knowledge, expertise and information base to carry out the job effectively? • Does the finalist have the required academic background? • Does the candidate have a positive, "can do" attitude? • Does the applicant have a strong work ethic and a high energy level? • Does the candidate have the confidence and experience to be a leader? • Has the applicant proven that they have added value, made improvements and positively impacted the bottom line? • Would the individual be a good team player? • Can the finalist communicate clearly and effectively? • Is the candidate a good long-term prospect to fill higher level jobs? • Is the applicant likely to stay in the position for a long enough period? Will she be happy in the role? Is she overqualified? • Does the individual fit in with the corporate culture? • Can the candidate cope with the pressures and stress of the job? • How enthusiastic is the applicant about the job? • Can the finalist innovate, think outside the box, and creatively meet challenges? • Is the individual aware of their weaknesses, comfortable with constructive criticism and motivated to improve themselves?
