As cliche as it sounds, we want to reassure our fellow graduates, current students, and college-students-to-be that they are not alone in their experiences when it comes to “acting their age” and what is deemed the “norm”. Presenting to you our life experiences as real as it gets and you might find out that not everything is what society says it should be. Lost? Confused? You might not be the only one :)

Selfless Selfish

*We are aware of the audio quality for this episode - we'll be back with better audio quality next episode! Thanks for understanding!*

Welcome back to the Bananacorn podcast! Today we're exploring the delicate balance between looking out for numbers yourself and being there for others. We will be talking about how this balance shifts as we get older.

When we're young, we're often told that it's important to be selfless and think of others before ourselves. But as we get older, we start to realize that sometimes we need to put ourselves first in order to be able to help others effectively.

So how do we strike that balance? Is it okay to be a little selfish sometimes? Or should we always be thinking of others? We'll get into those questions today, so sit back, relax, and let’s dive right in!

All by Myself

Hello everyone!

Today all of us are separated... as in Angela has left Shanghai

so what’s a better day to talk about loneliness than today when we are scattered all around the world.

After graduation and starting work, you meet different types of people you meet and the relationships that you develop. So today we will be talking about a common emotion everyone at least once in their lifetime has had - the feeling of loneliness.

Are we alone or lonely? Do I lack love or just attention from people? Here are some questions we will be talking about in this episode. So let's just get started!

Such a big F

So in our last episode, we talked about maturity, and how at this point of our lives we feel like we’re pretty much mature ready. BUT let’s be honest about it, no matter how mature we get or how much experience we get and prepare for new scenarios, there is one thing that constantly happens in our lives – and we all hate it!

The embarrassing moments! The failure moments!

Maybe after some time has passed we can laugh about it, or cringe at times in the middle of the night. But it's definitely a part of growing up and what's more “Embarrassment lasts a moment, regrets last a lifetime.” Better be embarrassed from trying than regretting not doing anything, right?

So keeping that quote in mind, we are back with a new episode titled “Such a big F”, where we’ll be going over several reddit epic-fail stories and sharing some of our own embarrassing moments along the way, so let’s dive in!

Maturity, Mature-ready?

Hi guys! Welcome back to today’s episode Maturity, Mature-ready?

Anyways, I want to read you guys this quote that I found from an article on this site called Bustle, and it says “Mature people are in charge of themselves, know how to manage their feelings, and how to reach their goals, sometimes being mature means you have to make hard decisions, whether that pertains to your professional or personal life”.

When reading this, I could really relate to what sparked today’s topic - scrolling through social media and seeing some of our high school friends and college friends getting married, engaged, and having children already, essentially making big decisions in their personal lives. This made us wonder about how we are also getting ready or already on this path of maturity.

We’re going to talk about various experiences in our lives that we felt we really matured and hopefully this also lets you guys self reflect on your path to maturity! So, let’s just dive in~

Is K-Pop Going Downhill?

We're back! Welcome back to our podcast!

Before we get to our new episode today - “Is Kpop going downhill?”, because so much is going on with our lives these days, we will now be updating a new episode every end of the month :)

Now back to the episode - today we’ll be talking about a very popular topic K-POP - I feel as though you must have come across the word "k-pop" once online. Today, we will be talking about some thoughts we have on K-pop - we do have long-time Kpop fans here and we have things to say about the rise, and perhaps fall of K-pop, how it has changed over time, and how to define "k-pop" nowadays. We'd love to get your thoughts on today's topic so please do let us know your thoughts in the comments below. Otherwise, let’s get on with the episode!

Life Updates: June 2022

Hey all! Believe it or not, we’re passing our half-year mark! Seems like 2022 is just as impatient as any other year.

Rather than the cliche move on doing a whole recap of our past episodes for a special number like Episode 15 - let’s turn things down a notch, cool things down bit!

Bananacorn podcast has talked about so many topics already, but there’s one thing listeners realized the 3 of us has not yet touched upon - and that is: What on earth is going on in the life of our BananaCorn podcast hosts? What are each of us doing in life?

Basically a quick update on our lives outside of this podcast world. So lie down, get your headphones on and let’s just chill~

We are back with today’s episode - “What multi-lingual? I’m no lingual”!

These days it’s very easy to find multi-lingual around you - and we have 3 on this episode! We’ll be diving into: our encounters with languages, how we managed to grasp them, and how our character changes when speaking a particular language.

Although we might find ourselves smart by not needing subtitles when watching TV shows or movies, the question really is, are we truly multi-lingual? #thestruggleisreal. So let’s just dive in!

What If?...

As we go through life, many of us begin to see we’re faced with limitations in our choices.  Feels like gone were the days when we were kids and can imagine being whatever we want. Now, we’ve become the so-called “boring adults” who often say “no, that’s not possible” “it’s too expensive” and “easier said than done”.

BUT “What if” there never was a need to be tied down like that?

“What if” limitations these never existed - and realize they were just excuses for ourselves? Would things have been different? Would YOU have chosen differently?

An adventure, an encounter, a mutual love, a space for solitude, a chance to go out and breathe life!

Come come, join the parade. Ready or not, here we go!

Where to Download Motivation?

So here's a question that gets us all baffled...where on earth can we download motivation??

You guessed it! Today we'll talk about the times when we felt demotivated in every aspect of life and the coping mechanisms of how we dealt with demotivation and redownload our motivation back.

Today’s topic was inspired by one of our co-hosts' brother, who felt that recently he can’t focus on his tasks - to him, it feels as if the simplest things would create stress and anxiety for him (even though he actually has abundant time *cough cough*). Hence our keyword of "demotivation". So just like the brother, have you ever felt as if you're the only one who is demotivated in life? and that everyone looks like they've got everything pulled together 100% of the time?

Of course, the reality is... we know it's not true.  Hope this episode can alleviate some people feeling this way because it's hard to see behind this demotivation door when it's firmly close.  Through our discussions in this episode, we aim to try to just open that door a bit for you -- because you're not alone feeling this way ;)

Jab at Our Jobs

Alrighty!! 6 Months Mark!! How's your form? Found your technique? Let's give another good jab at our first jobs!

Celebrating the release of our 10th Episode (woohoo!), this time we're back with the popular topic on, you guessed it, JOBS!  6 months since we started Banana Corn Podcast,  6 months since we started our first jobs - coincidence hmm? So, the three of us have decided to take the time now to just chat and reflect on how it has been - basically taking a jab-at-our-jobs. Yup, throwback to the sleepless night before the first day of work, and to now. Wonder how much have we changed throughout the span of 6 months?  What do we feel now tackling the corporate world?

Hope this episode helps in any way for our soon-to-be grads. Or this could be just a toast to the past for our older listeners!

With that being said, let’s just dive in!

Bringing back the 2000s?

Welcome back our dear listeners! Episode 9 already! Things are moving fast! Our topic for today was inspired by an interesting discovery Angela and I had during one of our recent hangouts in Shanghai. We decided to go on a vintage tour in the city, exploring all the vintage stores around Puxi. To our big surprise, the stuff in the stores was super expensive! Like 3 zeros worth of ka-ching price tags! And yet, many of these vintage styles and items we saw in the store were stuff we’ve seen in childhood. It’s as if the fashion of the 2000s came back again?

So that got the three of us thinking - if we’ve seen this in our childhood, can we still be considered Gen Z’s? By definition, we’re not Millenials either. It’s like we are stuck in the gap between the two: the late 90s liners – want to know what we’ve seen Just as our title says. “Bringing back the 2000s?” Ready or not, let’s dive in!

Quiz Us to Be Happy Us

Happiness - is a topic so prevalent in our lives and yet how much do we know about it? Let's move away from the typical responses of "oh my family and friends!" "my career!" "to be rich! money matters to me" and actually think about what are the stepping stones we take to build up in essence 'our happiness' in our daily lives.

Episode 8 brings to you "Quiz Us to Be Happy Us". The Four Tendencies Quiz is a framework developed by Gretchen Rubin who is a happiness guru. The test categorizes you into one of four distinct personality profiles so that you can better cater habits and actions to increase your happiness! The four tendencies are Upholder, Questioner, Obliger, and Rebel. Curious how these apply to us?  Let’s dive in!

Not Unemployed, Just Looking For a Job

Welcome back to Episode 6 titled "Not Unemployed, Just Looking For a Job" - a topic requested by one of our listeners, who's currently in a senior in college. Job Hunting? Yeah, tough time for sure. You're suddenly faced with a series of hard questions like "How to find a job?" "Where to go to find a job?"  "What do you recover from burnout, after applying to so many jobs?" "Should we even consider masters?"

For some of us, these are pretty difficult topics to discuss with people around us. Hopefully, the 3 recent college graduates can try and help you out by sharing our job searching experience & tips!
